Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

But we don't know how soon he was rejected, do we? Perhaps certain things were planned when Chrom was being considered before Sakurai finally decided on Robin instead. After all, we know Sakurai started planning for a "Pokémon from Pokémon X & Y" before Greninja was even decided on. We simply don't know either way.
I think you're being deliberately dense, to be honest.

Hey, guys wondering about 3DS and the CPP:

Apparently a guy who understood the Direct said this, so CPP is pretty much in if true.

This is good news.

It said that the new stick will function exactly the same as the CPP, so I think it's safe to say the CPP will be compatible with Smash as well. I'm debating making the purchase, but how do people who have used it so far feel about it?

I love it. It's comfy as hell. It just feels sooooo good in the hands.

I wouldn't replace it, personally.

Lurker perspective: TOO MANY PEOPLE spell Gaur Plains as Guar Plains

IT'S GAUR PLAINS

you wouldn't write MAIRO
or SHLUK
or PAECH
or DUCK HUNT DÖG
or RIDDLEY

/spelling nazi

Ordinarily, I wouldn't be this pedantic, but...

It's Gaur Plain. No plural.

So I'm just gonna say something, and I might be a total idiot to people that know Xenoblade (I am drunk after all)...

The voice at the end of the Shulk Smash trailer totally sounds like that general guy with the awesome mustache at the beginning of Xenoblade. Who I loved in his short time.

Anyway, you can answer however you want, although I'm probably completely off. I haven't even played the game in months, and not much of it.

You're close geographically, but very far metaphysically.

I'm just saying we don't know for sure, so don't act like it's certain that Chrom wasn't in development at any point or anything.

And no, the opposite isn't certain, either. I was just proposing a possibility.

Soooooo... I'm in a bit of a pickle, guys. I really want to keep sharing in the pre-release Smash hype with you all, but I fear everything I say from here on out will come with the huge caveat of me having attended today's media event, making you all suspicious of what I know or don't know.

You guys already know that I can't and won't share anything I might have seen or played from today's event, so there's that. So I guess all I can do is just see how things go for the next day or so, but if I feel like the context of everything I say is being threatened by my having gone to this event or like there's any conflict of interest at all, I'll probably just have to become a ghost until the game launches in Japan. I don't want to do that at all, though, so if ya'll can do me a favor and not ask me about the media event and/or cast everything I say under a light of suspicion, I'd really appreciate it. Rest assured that there are still many things I don't know; I'm very much still just a fan waiitng hungrily for more information, like the rest of you. I don't suddenly "know everything." Either way, all questions directed to me about the media event or just going to go ignored, no matter how vague or "safe" they might be.

I can't even say that, sorry. :(

Mega Man, for many obvious reasons (that others before me have already stated). It was just pure, unadulterated hype, and we had NO IDEA it was coming. God damn.

They've all been pretty damn amazing, though.

You're saying this like you have insider information. Do you?

Nailed it.

Nothing interesting, I promise. Just embargo stuff. I'm playing it safe.

You know I can't. I love you guys, but I love my job(s) and professional standing just a little bit more. :P

Will you guys still be doing gamexplain discussions? Or is that pretty much show until the game is out in Japan/US? Must be awkward as a lot of your discussions come with speculation of what we might see in the game and now you guys may potentially know the answers due to the media event.

If Ash is in a pickle, it obviously means there are more characters left, although who knows what form. Either that or the game has been made even less like Melee than it was at E3, like in terms of mechanics.

Shulk seems too goofy for me. Along with the Xenoblade exclusivity with the new 3DS, it's like Nintendo doesn't want me to play it.
Maintaining your rep as Public Frenemy No. 1, eh? :-P

Personally, I like Shulk here MUCH more than I thought I would. See, I didn't like his design when I saw the 2D art. It looked like a Nomura-style clusterfuck. But in 3D, it works so much better.

For one, the shorts that I thought were multilayered appear to be one layer of fabric. Turns out it was a pattern all along. Their make and material remind me of basketball shorts. Likewise, the shoes remind me of basketball shoes, giving him an athletic appearance when he squats with his sword. And the rest of his ensemble -- the vest, sweater, buckles, straps, etc -- all look great in 3D, as well. Far more cohesive than I expected based on the 2D art.

And the "goofiness" -- the chipper accent and hearty exclamations, the boyish grin, etc -- gives Shulk a TON of personality and a TON of charm. I feel an emotional attachment to him after watching the trailer, and I say that as someone who didn't play his game.

The mop of golden blonde hair and the tan skin gives him a surfer-dude vibe, which along with the futuristic sword and colorful get-up makes him rather unique-feeling on the roster. And mechanically, the ability to buff and de-buff himself in five different ways is awesome.

Really looking forward to playing Shulk now. :-)

It doesn't obviously mean that at all. It could just as easily mean the leak was it.

Orrrrrrr Nintendo is harnessing the power of vegetables.

Could mean there are more characters in the base game, could mean there are more in the base game, could mean they saw the dlc plans that will line up with the wiiu launch and saw characters that are finished on the wiiu and aren't ready for the 3ds yet, could mean he saw fuck all and is just being overly precautious to protect his job

You don't know, nothing he said is a hint in any direction

Yeah, I'm thinking he was basically telling us it was one of the first three. The last one probably makes the most sense, there was a new build of the WiiU version there right?

With Snake, Little Mac, male Wii Fit Trainer, Captain Falcon, Ike, etc., taking off all their clothes and hugging for warmth atop said mountain

How much do I have to shell out for this? Because I will pay any amount. 。:+((● ´艸`))+:。

We do still have reason to believe that there's at least one more character. The only way to know for sure before the game drops in Japan is if another leak comes out, & that won't happen from the source that did the first leak.

As a relative newcomer to the Smash Bros series, I'm sad about Snake being axed, what with his assets being largely in place from the previous game, and because he is such an iconic character.

That said, would Konami really settle for the star of their prolific series being relegated to dlc? Also, regarding the whole David Hayter/Keifer Sutherland thing, I'd imagine there are too many barriers towards sorting the English voiceovers in particular. And what relevance does the Metal Gear series hold for Nintendo these days?

I'm personally happy with Shulk's inclusion, but as intimated, I'd rather they didn't have to cut any past characters in order to make room for new ones. I guess it's not ideal for anyone involved, but comes down to licensing.

Snake is actually more relevant now since he has had a game on a Nintendo system in the same generation (Snake Eater 3D).

But yeah, for one reason or another, it appears he didn't make the cut this time.

Still missing 3-4 confirmed outfits, but here's most of the revealed mii costumes.

Or they just don't want more details about the leaked characters spilling out. They're not just going to say "Fuck it" and tell us everything about Duck Hunt Dog.

I think people are really desperate for that roster not to be finalized. Doesn't mean it isnt.

He looks fun to me.

But I have this feeling that some of these "gimmick" characters will be trash competitively and get shat on by the competitive community.

I'm just proud of the diversity and options this time around. The roster is great.

NIce! But why that hole in the last row? Do Mii Figters come in groups of three with similar themes or something? I never noticed that.

Aside from some vague ones (cowboy, pirate, sports) most miis seem to have outfits that fit at least some themes;

Every mii seems to have at least 1 fantasy outfit & two different futuristic ones. (a more robotic futuristic one & a more human in futuristic clothes one)

Obviously it's hard to say how many outfits the miis will have in total, but some minor patterns are noticable.

In less than two weeks, I shall own and be playing this.

I wasn't looking forward to the 3DS one overly, more the Wii U one with the 3DS as a stop-gap, but I'm excited now!

Is hope a reason?

49 characters is such an odd number, and the bottom two rows have wacky alignment. I wouldn't be surprised if we know the final roster, but I'm pulling for at least one more unknown character.

I still don't think CPP is in.
Why wouldn't they have annouced it earlier.
That seems like a feature they would pretty clearly let be known and not held in the shadows.

What's the the deal with Chrom? Is he AI-controlled or does he replace Lucina for a few seconds?

Also, RE: Fire Emblem Awakening. Robin is the player's character correct? So they'd get priority over everyone else; maybe 95% of the time (maybe next time Pokemon Trainer).

It feels like they've left quite a few other essential or primary functions in the shadows.

Do we have any idea what streetpass does for smash, for example?

Chrom appears to help in Robin's final smash.

Lucina is her own seperate character. (marth clone)

Robin *is* FE:A's protagonist, however he/she's a customizable avatar unit.
Before villager customizable avatars never made it into smash, so people expected
Chrom cause he felt more "smash-like".
