Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Nintendo has said Daisy was tomboyish, but we've never seen it in games. She just yells a lot.

Luigi is known as a coward. But we've actually seen that in his actions. His mannerisms express his personality, being jumpy, worried and a coward, even in Smash. There's also something unsettling about Luigi, that comes across in his old final smash and his association with the paranormal.

Luigis is probably the best defined personality in the Mario universe, with Bowser and Wario being right behind him. Daisy is not defined as a character at all, most of her characteristics we know from being told them, but she never really acts like them.

I'd argue that the existence of Waluigi really helped nail down Wario's personality. They sort of moved Wario's bitterness and jealousy towards Mario over to Waluigi and let him focus on being a disgusting, greedy slob.

Wait, you're the one who capsized New Leaf's thread?
Since a whole lot of posts (please note none of mine) have been deleted I can only guess this post was originally addressed to me.

Technically, my blame is that I'm influential (apparently). So when I made a few jokes that could be described a risqué others decided to join in and took it way to far. My worst crime was sporting an avatar of Isabelle barking. Oh and making that Lewd Leaf logo.

So this is a bit off topic, but since we're talking about princesses...

What exactly is Rosalina princess of? I mean, she is a princess right? Daisy has Sarasaland Peach has the mushroom kingdom and Rosalina has... what exactly?

I've never known despite Rosalina being my favorite Mario princess.
Some fan fiction say she is Mario and Peach's daughter in another galaxy (in the game that mean dimension or something) since her parent really looks like them. And that's why she visit that planet when she can.

I don't think Rosalina is generally called a princess, but she seems to be an ancient princess from the Mushroom Kingdom, going by her Galaxy 1 backstory. The place where she met the Luma is the same location as the star festival, which is around the castle. She had a crown even as a child, so she was some kind of princess, and, due to the presumed location where she met the Luma, mushroom kingdom seems to be it.

I'm guessing that people were genuinely surprised by the Mario Kart 8 DLC. Sure they knew that there were placeholder DLC icons hidden away in the game data, but no one expected anything actually new.
I expected new content and characters. I didn't expect a bunch of crossover stuff.

Nintendo: Well, we could have interesting plot and relatable characters like that, but let's say Bowser kidnaps something again, that will do better.

Thanks for answering my question everybody.
Rosalina feels like the lightning of Mario to me. Since were just seeing her everywhere at this point. Even in non spinoff stuff.

I don't know. A new human character in the Mario series only comes along every once in a while (I think the last one added was Waluigi). I think its to be expected that Rosalina is going to stick around.

Or she's actually a good female character in the Mario series that isn't a hollow princess or a random female version of some male character. We see her a lot because she's interesting and popular.

For years, Mario's "best" reoccurring female characters were Peach, Daisy, Birdo (?), and Toadette. Daisy is an empty character, Birdo isn't even technically a girl. And Toadette is just a pink Toad with hair.

I never understood the whole "Lightning" argument for Rosalina. I suppose Petey Piranha was Mario's "Lightning" back when the Gamecube came out, too?

You can't chalk that up to me still being bitter about daisy being on the sidelines. While Rosalina just jumped in. There has to be a comic elaborating on this.

Daisy did jump in. But quickly fell off and went forgotten by Nintendo until they decided to add another princess to freaking Mario Tennis.
I'm just as sour.

That's the thing though you have these other characters to elaborate on. But nope let's just give everything to the newest addition of the cast.

My guess is that because Rosalina's first appareance was on a Mainline 3D mario game, and had an important role in it (and the sequel, I think) Where as Daisy was introduced in a Mario Land GB game (I think) and she was never seen again until spin-offs.

Either way it is kind of pointless to me cause most of the mario cast is pretty interchangeable in my eyes, and they all cross over quite a lot.

I miss when Petey was in everything :(

It was nice having a mindless monster as a character. It was different, and petey's proportions were so different from everyone else, it made for some good variety in games where four of the characters wear suspenders and hats.

Luigi barely has any character in his primary genre though due to his constant presence as a Mario alt. Wario is always a greedy bastard.
At least it's not Petey Piranha. brr

I kind of dislike the whole "Lightning" argument in general. I only see it in reference to new female characters and its kind of annoying. The thing that made the Lightning scenario bad was that people didn't want more FFXIII yet SQEnix kept shoving her down our throat.

Eh, I'd argue that taking cues from fan fiction isn't the best way to go but Nintendo really doesn't like to nail even the most trivial details about the Mario universe if they don't have to. The Koopalings aren't related to Bowser anymore? Alright. Wario and Waluigi may or may not be brothers despite being evil versions of Mario and Luigi who are brothers? OK.

If the New Super Mario Bros. franchise didn't exist I wouldn't be surprised if they decided that Mario and Luigi may or may not be related, who knows!

Well, in all seriousness, I definitely see potential in them doing something with her and I understand the frustration in them not doing so. Luigi didn't always have a personality, but once they started adding to his character through Luigi's Mansion and the Mario & Luigi games, he's actually a pretty deep character as far as Mario games go. Daisy was added to Mario Tennis so there would be more female diversity, which is fine, but they never did anything with her beyond that; I'd love for them to have her in an RPG or something and expand her personality. Rosalina on there other hand, while not some crazy layered character, has a pretty extensive backstory and a personality beyond how she yells when making a goal.

The obvious comparison here is Mario as...well, he doesn't really have much of a personailty outside of being determined and optimistic. But he has the benefit of generally being the player character, so we are able to tie our own emotions from the various games we've played as him; it doesn't matter that Mario is sort of a canvas, I remember feeling nervous in World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3, so as a result I can apply the skill and courage I had to work up in that game to Mario. I guess you could apply the same logic to Daisy and have a sports themed move set, but, at least for me, that's not a character type I want in Smash.

Rosalina is Koizumi's Lightning
Zero Suit Samus is Sakamoto's Lightning
Lucario is Pokémon's Lightning
Lucina is Intelligent Systems' Lightning

Am I missing any other Lightnings in this game?

I just realized I'm probably going to have to deal with being ganged up on in this game too for playing Rosalina.

Yay. :lol

@Regulus: Cynthia is Game Freak's Lightning.

So I watched the full Smash Run video from Gamexplain. I hadn't seen a full play through before and I think it looks great. Very much reminds me of City Trial from Kirby Air Ride. I must have put 30 hours into that mode alone as a kid. The map looks great and varied too.

Does it show bosses at the end at all?
