I was told this was a thread filled with hand holding and singing!

I don't really understand this perspective. Why should we not hope for the game to be similar to our favorite Smash game, to be the best Smash Bros. it could be?

With this are you referring to Melee? Because if so then you answer your own question about his perspective.

I have been playing smash since 64, been hosting tourneys since melee, and tried to be a large part of my states smash scene. I love all the smash games, they are all unique and fun for different reasons both competitively and casually (and I am more than happy to include project M in the list of smash games).

The problem that I see and I think bugs quite a few people (myself included) is the idea that as smash continues to grow and develop and perfect itself as a series is that it will inevitably and irrefutably get more and more akin to melee and the metagame it has developed.

I don't care how someone enjoys or plays a game.

Just don't act like your way is the only and best way and basically be a dick about it to others who don't share your views on it. Also don't act like everything need to be catered to your playstyle.

I hate the entitiled game shit but some people really makes it hard not to agree w/ at times.

Me personally...It's more Smash and that alone is good enough.

Basically.

It goes both ways. The "fuck competitive players" group is just as annoying as the "fuck brawl/casual smash" group. If Sakurai didn't intend for the game to be played in a competitive manner (no items, limited stages), there wouldn't be a For Glory mode.

There's a lot of variety of opinion within the competitive community on ideal mechanics. For example, a lot of people would happily do away with L-canceling if aerial lag was reduced globally. Ultimately, a more competitive game provides players with more and better options.

This is very true, Its been said before but at the end of the day we all need to realize it really is just Smashers A prefers this, Smasher B prefers that, so good luck to both of ya!

I used to not really like Melee/Tourney talk back in the day since I really enjoyed Brawl. But lurking the subsequent threads up to this one and finally playing project M myself really changed my mind.

I like both style of game now.

Yup, this sums up how I feel about it too.

It helps that I'm weirdly situated between being a competitive player and a casual player. But still, I think we can all agree that the only people who are terrible are the people saying "your side sucks my side is better."

Also may I please have my pic of the day now

as long as i have fun and a lot of good laughs with my friends and family at the most ridiculous shit in smash bros, nothing else matters

NO you're a rock! you belong to the ground and we to the office!!

but seriously, I love competitive fighting games, and smash is like the black sheep in there(duuur is not a fighter!! huuur!!), and when you get into it, you find out that the smash community is a bunch of elitists that are torn apart in either melee or brawl, wth people lol

Alright so someone catch me up, I come in and I feel tension all over the place
Nah, it's not that bad. There was just potential confirmation of a technique found in the Smash 4 demo that would basically be the new l-canceling and it brought up the usual casual vs competitive argument.

Totally agreed, Its just the dismissiveness (new word?) that sometimes comes whenever something new or different is presented.

The example I think of is the new ledgehogging mechanics. Depending on a lot of factors, invincibility frames, lag after you get booted off, etc, this can develop into a very new and different sort of ledgeplay; however it feels at time as though it gets dismissed simply BECAUSE it is different.

Oh gosh guys tensions must be high if arguments broke out over that

I like the new ledge mechanics. I don't frequent SmashBoards, but it certainly hasn't been dismissed outright. Even the winner of the 3DS tournament thought it was an interesting change.

I don't hate any of you, I'm just so sick of people hating on Brawl and possibly Sm4sh because its not good enough for tourney's.
Its the reason why I hate Project M, had to make it like melee, cause its the perfect Tourney smash game.

Just annoys me.

I can hate Brawl as a competitive game but still appreciate how great it is at celebrating Nintendo's history. I don't see how it's weird that I'm hoping Smash 4 would be more like 64 or Melee rather than Brawl. I'll still enjoy the game, but I can hope for it to be competitive. And I always felt competition keeps the game relevent for a long time, we get live streams of Melee on a regular basis nowadays, how cool is that? Brawl just didn't have the mechanics needed to be a long-term game like Melee was.

I also don't see how anyone can "hate" Project M, a console mod on that level should be appreciated. I mean they even added back Yoshi's Story and Dreamland 64. Hacks are neat. They made it more like Melee since Melee has more options competitively, though I do disagree with them adding stuff like L-Canceling back in.

I hope to god that fox and falco get new smash attacks. Call in an arwing, have slippy crash into the course while yelling for help, hell summon a dinosaur from dinoplanet but please please no more land master.
