It is. I think you have to be here at least 3 months since your account was validated in addition to 300 posts and you know...not getting banned. Getting banned as a junior 90% of the time means you're permabanned.

I was the 10%.

I am the 1% sounds cooler

If we're lucky, tonight's will only add fuel to the fire.

Pic of the day: "Due to an overwhelming number of complaints from competitive Super Smash Bros. players we decided to add L-Cancelling, Directional Airdodging and various other Advanced Movement techniques back into the game. However since we couldn't have finished testing in time for release otherwise, we had to remove all Character Customization from the game."

(not real btw. pls don't hurt me)

The only Snake I like

Smash will likely never be Melee again.

Those guys honestly need to let go. It's a decade old title. Smash is designed to be very easy access these days and will not ever be Melee again.

I guess we should tell Quake players to get with the times and start playing CoD, too.

Like I said, it's just a common term used, don't take it so literally.
This sounds scarily similar to things people say to certain groups of people to excuse what they said. If I'm not a casual I don't want to be called one. Just like I don't wanna be called the N word. How hard is it to say non-competitive players or non-tournament players?

Yeah the sweeping generalizations that are being made here are kind of troubling.

I like playing with items free for all with friends, I also like playing in tournaments or serious Battlefield/Final Destination/Yoshi's Story/etc 1v1 vs friends.

I like Smash for being a celebration of Nintendo's history, but I also like my fighting games to have a lot of depth. High skill ceiling but easy to get into.

Wanting Smash 4 to be more like Melee which had a high skill ceiling but still fun to play "casually" doesn't make me an obnoxious tourney player or anything who shits on people who don't like it, but it does get annoying having to explain to people that you can have an easily accessible game and have a tournament friendly game at the same time.

Like I said, it's just a common term used, don't take it so literally. Most people I know use "scrub" when they're trying to be derogatory or mean about it.

Agreed on the bolded but it is also kind of frustrating when people call Sakurai an idiot (or much worse) or act completely baffled when he expresses VERY common game design philosophies (step outside the FGC bubble for a second) and when people try to counter with anecdotal evidence which in the grand scheme of things doesn't tend to mean a lot :(

Its X number of months (I forget if its 3 or 6, I think its 3) AND 300 posts

Oh okay! Guess I'm good to go with the time part! Now as for the post part...

I have a Japanese 3ds and I'm getting Smash on the day of release; guess I only have 10 days to hit that mark

Here is a 100% nintendo way to remedy the snake cut.

1. Give Sami from advance wars the moveset.

2. Keep the codec converstations, but this time, instead of MGS characters, we have Iwata, Miyamoto, Shibata, Reggie and Bill all doing things codec style.

Huh? Huh!?

Honestly, I wouldn't me too upset, as much as I like custom movesets.

Natural's Law in SmashGAF?

Oh my

O, Sakurai who art thou in Sora Ltd., please help deliver us to the promised land of fun and free time. Be it competitive or casual let us all frolic in the new worlds of Smash Bros. and destroy eachother on the battlefield or final destination if one so chooses. But most of all, save us of the endless debate of casual versus competitive. Amen.

Did you seriously just compare it to the N-word? >___>;
Look all I'm saying is that there isn't any ill intent behind it. It's just one of those silly FGC terms like footsies, meatie, and stuff. It's been around forever. It's stupid sounding but I don't think most people intend ill-will. They tend to use "scrub" and stuff like that.

I personally would just call you an enthusiast if anything....most tournament players don't go like "lol stupid casuals not understanding wavedashing ohohohoho~"

Our solidarity will not be marginalized.

"Not only that, but we had to remove all characters from the game"

"Except one"

I don't think that Sakurai's an idiot, but it feels like he felt that the way Melee was designed, people were at-risk of competing with Mew2King. The problem with removing L-Canceling and Wave Dashing is that it doesn't really do anything to help casual players, because the people that use advanced techs like these to a serious degree aren't usually playing with casual players. On the other hand, their removal makes it more difficult for tournament players to enjoy the depth of the mechanics.

Here is a 100% nintendo way to remedy the snake cut.

1. Give Lin from advance wars the moveset.

2. Keep the codec converstations, but this time, instead of MGS characters, we have Iwata, Miyamoto, Shibata, Reggie and Bill all doing things codec style.

Fixed. I want that Days of Ruin love.
Though this is if for some reason snake is absolutely impossible for a return.

If you hang around Smash GAF long enough, you'll reach that benchmark, and THEN some.

Smash 64 and Melee were both great games that were easy to access but had a high skill ceiling. People who like competitive Smash don't just like Melee, it's just that we only hate Brawl.

Instead of taking concepts from the first two games that made the game more interesting when you progress to a higher level and either explaining them with the rest of the mechanics or making them more accessible, Sakurai straight up removed them and then kept lowering the skill ceiling in Brawl, it's just frustrating that he still has the same dumb opinion in 2014 that to make the game more exciting as a competitive game he has to add complicated controls.

That said, apparently lag cancelling is back, don't know about dash dancing or momentum conservation though.

Sorta kinda relevant input:

If you put a bunch of input barriers between me and being better at a fighting game, I'll probably opt to not invest that much time into trying to be better at it.

Not saying that's what anyone wants, just putting it out there.

I equated it with the N word because a lot of people use it with no ill intent behind it and disregard how the person may feel about it. Being called casual when you dedicate hours of your life playing a game that you love just because you don't go to tournaments is degrading. I don't care how long it's been around. It's not AS degrading as being called the N word, but it's still degrading.
