I really would love for there to be a few more characters we don't know about.

Pic of the day. This time, you can challenge every fighter in All-Star Mode from the moment you turn on the game!! This is a survival battle with limited recovery items and no option to continue. However, this mode will be incomplete until you've unlocked every fighter... Until then, you can only play against characters that are already available. This is a picture of the bottom-screen menu, with a padlock indicating that the mode is still incomplete.

"DO YOU HEAR THAT? DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE'S CHEERS? THEY ARE CELEBRATING THE RETURN OF THEIR GODDESS PALUTENA UNKNOWN CHARACTER HYPE!!!"

yeah well i never believed esrb to be the real final roster because of the way the css was arranged. rearranges itself by franchise once it's complete

also could this be the starting roster? looks like it may be

Guys how is this a megaton when the leak screenshot could have shown exactly what we are seeing in the POTD right now. It was an E3 video so the screenshot could have just been taken before the whole roster was unlocked, then the next part of the video just shows the full character roster. Two screenshots in two time periods. No guarantee of secret unlockables we don't know about.

yoooooooooooooooooooooooooo

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

More characters to come here we go!!!

So all-Star mode gets longer the more you unlock?

May be worth playing it before you have everyone then.

I still don't get how even without the Sal leak Shulk was such an outlandish possiblity. Monolith Soft is a major 1st party for Nintendo which (for admittedly obvious reasons) had zero presence in Smash so far, often helped out with grunt work on major games like Skyward Sword, Xenoblade was a critical darling, a surprise success in the west after a big fan-campaign and Sakurai had made it clear long ago he was a big fan of both the game and the developers.

Shulk wasn't guaranteed, but I felt pretty comfortable about his chances.

EDIT: god damn it sakurai you devilish bastard

It's one part "lol bottom of the barrel" criticisms because ("apparently") no other franchise has the star power to contend with the series already present in Smash and one part "BTFO" culture where everyone wants to get high off the schadenfreude.

What I don't get is how people constantly criticize Nintendo saying they only do Mario/Zelda/Pokemon but then the times when they do highlight (or attempt to highlight) something newer and/or contrary to this exaggerated criticism, an equally loud chorus of "not fitting enough/not 'muh nostalgia' enough/not A-list enough" rings out. Funnier (sadder) still is the idea that these comments/feelings stunt the potential of other series because if it isn't Mario or Zelda tier from the jump, it apparently isn't worth it.

Jokes aside, I dig that you fight each character by the year they came out, and not each franchise the year it debuted. You can see that when Peach and Bowser come after Mac, or Zero Suit Samus or Ike/Robin not being next to Samus/Marth in the 'defeated characters' screen. Makes All-Star's mode less repetitive than it got in Brawl, if even by a little bit.

Yeah but there's also no guarantee of no more secret characters, contrary to so many saying exactly that
