It would only be 19 newcomers, two of which were simple clones! I mean, isn't this the biggest development staff Smash has ever had? We cut the SSE fat, we have x3 as many people working on character balance, which means that Sakurai is that much more capable of filling in the roster without screwing up the game balance!

If we are assuming the build used to record footage for the ESRB was incomplete (remember it is in English thus it's not from a development build) some characters may not have been enabled. This would mean All Star could never be unpadlocked but also wouldn't prevent them from seeing alt costumes of characters in the leak build.

If there is more characters, does anyone realistically expect Snake? I think the time to reveal him has long passed. Only chance would probably be DLC.

As hilarious as it would be to have Snake be a super stealthy unlockable, I think they'd have hyped him beforehand for sure.

It would definitely make sense to move the Ice Climbers to unlockable - that way all of the retro Nintendo characters are under the same "extra bonus"-type umbrella. They have very little marketing value to anyone who isn't already a dedicated Smash player. There's most likely precedent what with Wario, Luigi, etc. It's even the perfect excuse not to give them their own stage slot!

I WANT to believe, but I don't think my heart could handle it... at least I can look forward to the dog.

Every time someone reminds me that Luigi stole Wario's starter spot, it feels like a thousand cuts

Also, as far as Chorus Kids, has Ninka ever commented on why he speculated on Chorus Kids being the surprising character inclusion in his original leak?

that's probably a non-dynamic image that will not change unless everyone's unlocked, why would both the leaked image and today's PoTD's be exactly the same? common sense folks. It doesn't debunk anything, sure, but it doesn't confirms it either, it's still OPEN, more open than ever considering Sakurai's willingness to share what the lock exactly means.

They show what the ESRB needs to see to rate the game I.e. the most questionable content. That's why a lot of the images were close ups on female trophies.

You could make cases that each of the secret characters shown in the footage were necessary for an ESRB rating (Ganondorf practicing Fist Magic, Charizard setting stuff on fire, Lucina/Shulk having swords, Bowser Jr.'s cannonball being the closest the game has to a real gun shooting a real bullet)

People talking about no G&W: The lock pic is just a button on the menu UI guys, it's not an actual timeline that changes with character unlocks. You presumably see that image however far you are into the game, until you have everything and then the padlock either disappears or becomes "unlocked".
