My BD case from Best Buy is fine. No cracks.

I put it in just to see how it looked on my setup. Fuckin' awesome, of course. It's midnight here and it would be two in the morning if I watched the film all the way through, I can't do that with work tomorrow, but it took willpower to tear myself away. This film is condensed childhood wonder.

I expect probably about a dozen more of these too. :lol

When I dragged my friend to see it, In Imax and everything. Even paid for his ticket(More so as a thank you for other things). He started off just doing his normal...Texting in the movie, bit chatty, fiddles around. Then for the first time...just becomes silent and stares at the screen for the rest of the movie. No more moving or texting.

Now I'm worried here, Thinking this is a bad sign. Him quiet? not really the type. When the movie gets out...its just...I think this is quiet possibly the most awesome movie I ever seen. And I thank you for dragging me to see it theaters.

Its funny to explain why it is great. I was talking to another friend before who thought Hellboy 2 was awesome while this was the biggest piece of shit ever. Kinda of the opposite opinion I have. And when he said " You're not that old yet boy, stop judging movies as oscar winners. You say Hellboy is all this cliche bullshit but Speed Racer isn't?" I just realized what made speed racer so great then. Its the fact that its not the most original story, characters, or anything like that. But it does something most movies completely fail at. Watching it was going to the movies to see something like Jurassic park when I was young. Just this amazing experience. You didn't look for faults, or anything back then. You were just amazed. This was the best way to describe Speed Racer. It was one of those movies that just left you with this feeling of being awestruck at a movie. It hits that nerve in you that makes you remember why you love movies in the first place. Not everything has to have this deeper meaning to it ala Wall-E tried to do. I guess the best way to sum it up,(Kinda of a spoiler from Ratatouille)
it is with the Critic from Ratatouille. I really think in a way, we've all become jaded about movies. We look for faults, we always crave something deeper in each one, We use words like shallow and generic to describe the predictable or common. We strive on being cynical.
I believe that is the problem Speed Racer ran into. It is kind of just another generic wonderboy fights bad guys movies. But it did it in such a way...You don't care. You can look past every fault and just fall in love with it. I don't believe everyone will fall for it. But I do believe that it is the reason why I atleast fell in love with movies in the first place.

*Proceeds to print Cult of Speed Racer Cards :lol *

Sorry for running off to with it.

Well, finally had a reason to turn on the PS3 again with the release of this and it keeps locking up. Any chance older firmware would result in a lockup while watching a newer BRD?

Yeah BRD (some) require updates :/

HA! My case isn't cracked!

I just opened it (finally) :P When I was at best buy earlier the first one I picked up rattled and I said to myself "Self, hell naw." I then proceeded to shake almost every box on the shelf:lol

Anyway, a TON of them rattled and I just picked one that didn't:D

Holy shit, I just downloaded Speed Racer off of iTunes and I think my mind was just blown. Not only was this movie the most visually amazing experience ever, but it also had a well paced story with interesting and dynamic characters.

Overall the movie is something beyond most films, because it is a film that can be enjoyed on many different intellectual levels.

5/5 Stars.

The critics were really wrong on this one. Shame, really, as I would love to have a sequel. We know that ain't happening now, especially after reading all positive reraction from first time viewers.

I'm glad I got to see it in theatres though.

WTF @ digital copy. It doesn't play on the market leading iPod or other apple devices and it doesn't work on the PSP, what good is it then?!

And according to this thread the box says it DOES. Man, that's low, Warner. A good lawyer could turn this into a false advertising issue. Hell, an OK lawyer could.

I subscribe to the theory that stupid people should just stew in their own juices; arguing with them is like shouting at a painting about how ugly it is. We know Speed Racer is awesome, that's all that matters.

I missed this movie in the theater, a darn shame, because this movie is gold. Ever since I got my hands on it, I watch it about 4, 5 times already.

Movie is fun, racing is awesome, it's like watching a Burnout racing game, It's awesome!!.

It watching the TV shows on DVD doesn't ruin your childhood memory nothing will.

Honestly, I think the movie is pretty true to the spirit and style of the show. That big fistfight is like live action'60s anime.

Ditto this. One of the best things about the movie is that it manages to treat the original material with respect, updating a bit but not gratuitously, and altogether avoids irony or camp.

In other words--

It's not as corny or stiff as the original, but stays completely true to the spirit of it and doesn't feel the need to put it down.

I will probably never see this movie a second time.
Not saying it's bad, I would say it's highly unique but damn it took a lot of effort to view it.
Extremely fast cutting & constant speed speed speed & high volume for two hours or how long it was, I was spent.

Glad to see all the positive reviews in here for people discovering the film on DVD/BRD. I caught this in the theater at the bargain theater due to some friends telling me how good it was, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie is a lot of fun, although I thought that the CG was over done at times, I still really enjoyed it. I may have to pick this up this week.

I thought that was one of the best parts. For example, during the races (all except the last part of the last one?), instead of cutting to the announcers then cutting back to the race, there was just nonstop action going in the background with the faces of the announcers moving across the screen. I was transfixed, like I couldn't step away for 5 seconds without missing something important.

I felt like a little kid during a lot of parts. The entire final race, particularly the buildup to the end and end to it, was one of the most glorious things I have ever freaking seen. I realized after it was over that I had been sitting there cross legged on the floor, drink in one hand, awestruck staring at the screen with my mouth (literally) hanging open for like 10 minutes.

that how i felt when i saw it in the theathers the first time.

i felt like all the colors in the last race had me hypnotized.

my copy is coming in from amazon today. i cant wait to get home and watch it. hopefully my case is not broken.

Its rather amusing to see all these people who shit on the movie/ignored it during its theatrical release doing a 180 on it now. Oh well, better late than never! I will say though that I pity anyone who missed seeing it in theatres.

Also, another glowing review:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=1052&show=review

"Warner Brothers has done a masterful job with this Blu-ray release of Speed Racer. Presented in full 1080p in the movie’s original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.40:1, Speed Racer is easily one of the finest transfers of the year. The look and feel of the movie is very unique. The Wachowski Brothers have captured the essence of the cartoon world created for the original animated series and have morphed it into an infinitely detailed world of striking colors and beautiful cityscapes. Speed Racer is visually arresting and will initially deliver a large dose of sensory overload. This passes as the film progresses, but the amazing images and special effects never cease to amaze.

Speed Racer was “filmed” using high definition cameras and as such, has been ported to Blu-ray without ever being transferred to film. This direct digital approach has given Speed Racer a stunning visual sheen and a truly flawless picture. Colors practically leap off of the screen and the movie’s many small details are rendered with a crystal clear clarity that I’ve never seen equaled on home video. Black levels are deep and contrast is excellent. I can’t even begin to accurately convey how amazing Speed Racer looks on Blu-ray. This is THE definitive reference disc of the year and will be utilized the world over as a demo disc for Blu-ray for years to come. Speed Racer is a visual masterpiece and this Blu-ray edition is the perfect way to experience it. Speed Racer earns my absolute highest recommendation."

Good christ I cannot wait to pop my BD in!

Now, I hate critics even more :(

Seriously though, who in their right mind would actually give a rat's arse about what some random 37 year old dude thinks.

I can't wait to see it again and watch all the detail in the background that I missed the first time. One pretty cool sight was the "running" horses on the walls during the opening part of the final race.

The detail in the environments was astounding.

Look at the kinda blurry background in the scene where Speed and Trixie first meet eyes as kids. There's like... all these hearts, sort of. I dunno, it's hard to explain, but it looks neat. Noticed it when watching it yesterday, along with the thing with the horses.

Amazing film imo - glad to see others enjoying it. Caught it in IMAX and was blown away. Not only by the visuals, but the amount of heart that was put into such an unknown and under appreciated franchise. Would love to see a sequel, perhaps a darker storyline...but honestly with the way the Matrix sequels went I'm hppy with what we got.

It's by far and wide the best iteration of Speed Racer to date, which isn't saying much, but I even hold it above the original series. You can tell they were really big fans. And what an amazing score, just further proof that this was just more than a simple cash-in.

All the talk in here is making me want a BluRay player!

Get one, the audio alone is enough to warrant the price!

Edit: I should explain, the small things you hear on a Blu Ray you won't notice elsewhere is astounding, like in Chronicles of Narnia there are little sounds going on that I had never noticed the 2 times I saw it in theatres and the 4 times on DVD, but 1 time on Blu Ray and I am blown away at the AUDIO based details, even more so than the high definition picture the GOOD is the uncompressed audio!

So sexy!

The thing about Speedracer is how mad it all looks. I rave about it - Warchowski's got a bunch of CG firms to do this lolli colour madness, and you know what, photorealism is nice and all but when they have exploding heart mess going all over and particles + motionblur + hyperrealism colours, definite bluray ediiton. I walked out of the cinema saying "i'm so getting the bluray".

Yeah, I've been eyeing one for some time, and figure I should just buy a PS3, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. The main reason I'd want the PS3 is for BluRay with some games on the side.

Guitar Hero World Tour = PS3 ultimate edition so just go with that?

Also the PS3 is the BEST Blu Ray player on the market so that helps it out, and putting video files on the PS3 is awesome as well (just fill it with music videos)

Right. Pretty much the way I see it as well. I don't really have time for another game machine, but on the other hand, if I'm going to buy a BD player, might as well be a PS3.

Does Speed Racer have an BluRay Live elements to it?

I noticed that the first time, thought it was rally cool. Didn't the hearts kind of blur off the flowers or something like that?

I'm still really on the fence about this movie.

I hate the series.
I like the Wachokowski sibling's though
I hate anime as a whole
But I like the look of the movie from what I've seen.

I should just say fuck it and drop the $25 on it. If I dont like it, I've spent $25 on worse.

Next week is the biggie for me though, Iron Man and Dardevil (shut up, I like the movie. Directors Cut anyway)

If you're unsure, rent it.

I also liked the DD DC (theatrical version was shit). The MRSP for that movie is rediculous, though. Fox is off their rocker.

It's not just Fox... the prices for EVERYONE'S back catalog stuff is bullshit.
There's no reason that a back catalog movie should be $30 or more JUST because it's on bluray now.

$20 I can deal with, but more than that is nuts.

That shit ticks me off. The Lost Boys on BRD should not cost as much as it does.

Part of the impetus for HD movies in the first place is so the studios can adjust their pricing upward. I think they realized they left tons of money on the table with DVD and now they're going to get it back.

I honestly think that's going to SERIOUSLY backfire. Especially when you somewhat NEED people to double dip. This isnt a situation like VHS to DVD where the old format just wouldnt work.

DVDs will work just fine in every BRD player on the planet, and in most cases upscale them. What reasoning would most people have to upgrade the movies they have to BluRay, especially when the sticker shock hits for that summer blockbuster from a few years back....$34.99.... W...T..F...

You want people to adopt and re-buy? Knock down the prices of catalog titles that youve already made your money on, but go ahead and charge your large amount on new release for a few months. People who really want the movie will get it.

I can't for the life of me figure out how can people call this movie shit, I mean the time i was watching this movie my mind was blown even more so than when i was watching TDK for the first time.

I was kind of disappointed that Netflix moved the Blu-ray into a waiting period just as my next disc was shipping. Oh well, I'll live... Still fairly confident that this isn't going to be my kind of thing, though.

The only people who will get any enjoyment out of Speed Racer are people who can sit through 2 hours of incoherent, shallow nonsense because of pretty colours.

I am glad I got to see it in the theaters too (several times). This is the first movie that makes me wish I had a bigger than 50 inch 1080p DLP. The detail is amazing and it fully transferred to Blu Ray.

The disk extra's being shit aside, this is still my favorite movie of the year so an absolute must buy in Blu Ray. Ahead of Ironman, ahead of Wall E and even ahead of the Dark Knight, I just love watching it every time.

Not just nonsense. Incoherent nonsense. Ouch.

He's trolling with a Spearhook!

Anyhow call me Inspector Detector, I dug up the info on the Target exclusive disk, it's a re-release of this:

Just picked this up from Target. It is approximately 31 Minutes long. The first half is mockumentary style, and has the entire cast being interviewed in character, as well as providing a backstory to the entire movie. The second half is a behind-the-scenes look at the movie and filming; it also includes cast and crew interviews. For $10, it was definitely a good buy...not to mention it came with a free movie ticket to see Speed Racer, which I had planned on anyway. So this was really a good deal...if you are looking forward to the movie, I would definitely suggest picking this up.

Sauce!

Another thread on the same forum confirms it.

I'm tempted to pick up the Special Edition next payday just to get the disk.

Also if you want your digital copy on Apple computers as advertised on the packaging CLICK HERE and fill out a support request, but do it nicely. Come on Speed fans! Let's get WB to do right by us. :D

And I got this shit on the brain, can't stop doodling at work - here's the best Mach 5 I've managed after four months. :P
