Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I find it funny how everyone went crazy about Megaman being in the game when he was announced, and last page no one answered "Megaman" to the question of what character they wanted to play as first. Most answered Greninja, Robin, Shulk... even Bowser Jr. even though he's probably unlockable.

So, who here sees Megaman as a potential main? Where are all the Megaman fans? :P

Hype is a fickle beast-you have it one moment, and then at the next, it's run off to be with the latest and greatest!

In general the 3rd parties this time don't excite. Had I known before their reveals that Mega Man and Pac Man are in I would've been hyped. Actually I was really hyped for Pac Man because of Gematsu, but his trailer did nothing for me. Neither did Mega Man's.

Maybe I'm just bitter since I knew Snake was gonna be gone.

There's kinda two levels to any Smash character:
1. What they represent as a character, their history with games/Nintendo, how cool they are/look, etc.
2. Their actual moves and playstyle, and how good they appear to be.

During character reveals, the former is more important. That's why I would freak out to see Mega Man, Shulk, Ridley, Mewtwo, Geno, etc.

The former becomes more and more important the closer we get to release. We have a bunch of footage, and most of us have tried the game by now (good job with demos btw Nintendo, got it out there). I love Mega Man and think he's amazing, but my initial impression from the footage and from trying him myself is that I'm not crazy about the way he plays.

Of course it's way too early to say that with any certainty at all, and I guess it doesn't really have to apply for who you play the first time, so it's kind of irrelevant. I guess it's more being spoiled by the play before release, it makes the characters I tried already feel like old news.

That...really doesn't sound terribly mild. Though I agree she wouldn't be all that out of place - hopefully she can show up in the next Smash after Bayonetta 3 and the Jeanne spinoff game are released.
I wasn't saying they'd keep the part you bolded. I meant they'd just need to remove that one risqué action, and the rest of her depiction in Anarchy Reigns would work rather well in Smash. Just have her use her more fantastical weapons and revert to the one-piece "swimsuit" when she uses her weaves. It'd be appropriate while still feeling like Bayonetta.

Did you guys know, there are other 288 special moves we know nothing of?

The depth this game will have is outstanding:

So do we have to unlock each of these extra special moves or are they unlocked with the character? Because I vaguely recall something about unlocking a new special move, but I'm not sure.

Making gems sure is a time sink in Xenoblade.
I got up to the jungle and realized I hadn't made many. Now I have so many to choose from to make some.

I've spent more time crafting gems then I've spent in any single area, mostly making bad gems by accident
dumb party assist ¬_¬

Thev've brought out the secret ninjas.

How did I miss this the first time it was posted? Saving it now :)

And yeah, after whatever happened with the leak, you can bet Nintendo's out in full force looking at even the slightest twitchy eye or shaky finger.

Mega Man will still probably be the first character I try out since he was my most wanted newcomer and my favorite third party character ever. But yeah, my hype for him as a potential main has diminished after footage. Little Mac is definitely my most hyped out character to try now, then followed by Rosalina

That said Sonic was my main in Brawl, so I can deal with Mega Man not being great as long as I like his play style. I'm much more concerned about if Mario isn't absolutely terrible this time

I just have a hard time really wrapping my head around him. Rosalina, for example, has a pretty out-there kind of playstyle, but you can see right away how it works, even if it might be tough to master.

My first impression after actually using Mega Man at a Best Buy demo was that... it's going to take some practice. :p

Mega Man's inclusion is incredibly powerful, in my opinion. It just came at the right time, when all of the fans felt really dejected.

It fits so well, classic Mega Man was a definitive NES experience. Snake and Sonic were neat and kinda goofy, but Mega Man makes complete sense.

Totally agree. Mega Man's reveal couldn't have come at a better time for me.

I don't get that last panel. Both of those games are good. Everything else is spot on though lol.

maybe its the whole emphasis on graphics over simplicity? (im not sure but thats the message i got albeit the message is vague lol)

edit: I personally thought the n64 controller was great i just used my thumb to move the analogue while i held controller with my hands or i just one handed it lol

same here. I believe thats why no one talks about Sonic. lol

what happened guys? did yall forget him?!

The only drawbacks to the N64 controller are the deterioration of the control stick and the awkward placement of the D-pad, which isn't even an issue because so few games required it. Otherwise, it was fantastic. The Z button was perfectly placed.

I think it's a nostalgia thing.

Ah...well they should've chosen a different example. at least a realistic game that tries too hard to be realistic or something.

Seriously, like every manual had this diagram in it.

Yeah I agree. The controller was unconventional but not unusable. Never saw any games that used the 2nd control scheme though.

Mario from what I saw may be better than ever, really fast in every move! And don't lose hope on Mega man, he plays EXACTLY as in his games, that has to count!

Somehow I just realized that the nunchuk is just the N64's midsection cut out.

That's a really good one xD

Parappa confirmed for smash (he'd actually be a good fit if it were not for being a sony property)

You got the reference :P I love Parappa

Even with the diagram the controller was still terrible.
It's not about the quality of the controller, it's about people not reading manuals which eventually lead to their demise. Add on top of that almost two decades worth of rubbish 'how do I control 64' jokes and you've got a lot of reasons to blame all the world's ills on people who didn't know how to hold one.
