I was actually playing as toadette in an online match when that happened. I was in the middle of pulling out my green shell to use as a back shield to possibly take yoshi out. While I was in the process of doing it I struck yoshi in midair. Felt like an asshole for doing it to that guy.

I think the best solution is where Kamiya's team makes BayoxDMC and Itsuno's team makes DMCxBayo, with each game being a single side of an overall plot and plenty of intersecting paths. Imagine the crossover boss fights, both cooperative and against the guest character.
