Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I dunno, but it looks very similar to this fan-made Ridley statue.

!!!
I would kill to have this Ridley in smash. The Neck is perfect! Sakurai pls.

Ahh the unfortunate truth. I'm ready to accept that fact since the only character I really wanted to return in Mewtwo.

I'm going back to logic and believing the ESRB leak is the full roster, because why would they not show all the characters unlocked.

I dunno, the presence of the lock icon on All-Star mode has left me to believe that there are a few more fighters left. Otherwise, I would love to know why it was there at all.

Watch everyone unlock everyone in the leak but for some reason the lock never disappears and we still can't seem to find more characters.

If Lucas got the Alph treatment and has his specials as custom moves I wouldnt care if we got DLC or not. I'd miss rope snake though.

Actually i guess im happy enough with the roster either way to not really want dlc, but having Lucas in some form would be nice.

If we got trophy of Lucas and Wolf, It's possible that we could take it as disconfirmed because I can't really see that they would add trophies to the game if they are being considered to be DLC characters since you have to earn those trophies by playing with dlc characters in classic mode or so.

Who know! We might not get DLC characters after all.

Well, the trophies we'd get with any possible DLC character would use their own Smash model, while the trophies in Smash right now, if there are any, likely would be model rips from other games.

Anyway, the main issue with Smash DLC is it not being developed by Nintendo internally. So, they'd need to keep Namco's team around for it. However, that Smash 6 listing we got a few months back if not a mistake could mean that there'll remain some Smash dedicated team over there. Smash DLC likely would sell better and be easier to make than many fully original games, after all.

This is the first time in my life that I've seen a person who misses Lucas.

I actually wouldn't be surprised.

Mario Kart is a project that is developed within Nintendo. Smash, on the other hand, is Sakurai's baby - he can do whatever he wants to do with it, and no one is going to tell him otherwise. Additionally, Namco is doing the developmental heavy lifting, and most of their engineers may already have projects lined up after Smash is finished. There may be contractual conflicts with Namco staying on even longer to do DLC - and again, ultimately, it's going to be Sakurai's decision.

Namco has projects lined up after Smash is finished... Projects like Smash 6!

"No slowdown. Very well optimized."

Sounds like great news for Ice Climbers DLC. As long as there's a chance for DLC, you're going to hear people talk about the game forever.

You must not be from around here then.

You don't come here often I see. :P

My friend is about ready to strangle Sakurai for it. She is getting antsy waiting for official confirmation on Ness too.

Whaaa. I visit the Smash threads often and have posted a bunch too, but they go so fast there's no way to read it all. Me and my friends used to joke about Lucas being the little kid who no one wanted to play as. Never see anyone mention him ever. But if he has a fanbase then that's great for him :)

He said he felt those with an XL would be at an advantage.

I understand why, but it's still very playable on the OG, you just gotta adjust.

Mind you, I game primarily on the 3DS, so it'll look fine. He owns an XL primarily, so naturally playing on the OG would feel weird to him.

I think Alph is a special case in that his body proportions, moveset, and personality match up well enough to an existing character to work as an alternate skin. People tend to undervalue "personality" in the context of Smash Bros., but on-screen appearances, taunts, and victory animations really do help flesh out a character. For instance, nothing about Olimar stands out as unbefitting Alph, but Mario's hat flip, Donkey Kong K.O., and Super Mushroom poses don't make any sense for Dr. Mario. Lucina, Dark Pit, and Dr. Mario all have their own trademark gestures that help separate them from their cloned sources and give them a unique identity, but Alph doesn't.

We can only hope, but mario kart is 100% internal nintendo... smash bros is being developed in collaboration w/ sakura/namcobandai, and is basically almost all external.

We can hope that either the contract is extended for DLC (or DLC was included to begin with), or that once namcobandai are done w/ the bulk, it can be moved to internal nintendo, w/ sakurai's supervision. No way to know for sure, though.

Yep, that's one of few reasons why I'm not sure about DLC characters.

Yeah no doubt. I own an XL myself that's what I'm used to playing. I got a 2DS for my little one so hopefully it's okay for her.

I wonder if you have to beat Classic Mode twice with Olimar/Alph to get their trophies, or it just gives you both on completion.

We know Larry was just a regular trophy drop though, so it seems Olimar will be the trophy, and Alph will just be a regular trophy.

Please explain to me how Mario's gestures and personality don't make sense for Mario.

Doctor Mario grows with a Super Mushroom because he's Mario. He has the Donkey Kong K.O. because he's Mario.

That video convinced me. Ridley is a playable and he's a hovering character. He doesn't walk on the ground. I'm not sure how that works with jumps and what not, but I'm sure they'd find a way.
The video from the direct?

Yeah, the model is just about double the size of Pikachu, and Pikachu is a fairly small character. I'm sure the ESRB leak is all we are getting tho so its confusing. Is he DLC? Was he cut due to complications? Don't think he was cut, since the Direct was as late as April...maybe the ESRB leak somehow didn't have everyone but a playable dragon that can most likely bite people would probably be shown...

The whole Ridley thing is so consfusing. Its obvious the Direct segment showed off a playable Ridley thats small enough but theres no Ridley. I just don't get it.

HAL, which is rumored to be working on the game alongside Namco, could easliy handle the workload of small batches of additional content.

Woah, you must have me on your ignore list then, not a day goes by that I don't lament the loss of my Brawl main.

:'(

It's a shame the best GBA game lost its Smash rep. Such an undeserved cut.

When different forms of Mario are in spin off games or cross overs they are considered their own character.

Example: Metal Mario
Metal Mario can do the Super Mushroom taunt in Smash Bros, so LOL.

Also, are you serious? He's Mario being a doctor. He's not a separate character. Neither are Paper Mario nor golf Mario nor referee Mario. They're all Mario.

Kind of funny, but if Bowser Jr remains a staple in Smash with his Koopaling alts, Roy from Fire Emblem probably has no chance of ever returning to the series, because of the name conflict.

So if I'm reading correctly, Shulk's Monado powers require you to press B to bring up the ability to change, and then pressing B again to cycle through?

Sounds like a lot of B mashing for Shulk players lol

Ridley will be a stage hazard that is conveniently about the size of a playable character. And does stupid level 1 AI type stuff, like wandering around the stage haphazardly or grabbing someone and then proceeding to do nothing with them.

So since the announcer calls Alph by his name, I'm gonna assume the same thing will happen with the Koopalings.

"And the winner is...ROY!"

Roy's our boy!

Need another comic for that, with the crowd chanting that for Koopaling Roy while FE Roy is a bum that hears it from the outside.

He's Doctor Mario, not just Mario. The K.O. taunt directly references the arcade Donkey Kong, and the Super Mushroom taunt directly references Super Mario Bros. The Dr. Mario persona did not appear in either of those games. I don't know if you're intentionally being obtuse or argumentative, but clearly juggling pills, reading a medical chart, looking through a magnifying glass, or anything else taken from official Dr. Mario art makes a lot more sense for him. Even riding in on an ambulance at the start of a match would help set the tone better than jumping out of a Warp Pipe.

Just like Metal Mario is Mario with the metal cap on... except the two can race each other and play tennis together.

Gold Mario can play golf with Mario

Shadow Mario can play golf with Bowser Jr

Dry Bowser and Bowser have been villains in the same game with no story relation to each other.

To Nintendo alternate forms of characters basically become their own character over time.

Aaaah come ooon. It's as simple as calling Koopaling Roy by his full name. "Roy Koopa". Fire Emblem Roy would just be... Roy.
