Out of all four characters, he's got the most reason to be included IMO. (I know Mewtwo was an original character too, but he at least has a replacement that is very similar. There's no character like R.O.B.)

I just showed my 7 year old nephew all the reveal trailers. Here is his reactions.

Villager: my nephew was confused. Didn't see how he could be a fighter.

Sonic: my nephew got really hyper. He loves sonic.

Little Mac: "He looks so boring. He's just a puncher". I tried telling him lots of people are excited for Mac, but my nephew didn't care.

Mega man: didn't know who he was, confused him for kid Icarus(?)

Greninja. He was loves charizard, thought greninja looked cool despite not knowing who he was.

Pacman: thought he looked awesome. I was surprised he knew who pacman was. Apparently there is a pacman cartoon on currently?

Rosalina: my nephew was so happy. He loved her in SMG.

Robin and Lucina: didn't care about either, was obsessed with falcon

Shulk: He got excited. My nephew watched me play all of xenoblade. He wanted reyn in.

It's awesome and interesting to read things like this. Yeah, surprised to hear that the new Pacman cartoon is really popular with kids. Back before he was actually revealed a lot of people here were absolutely dreading the idea of cartoon Pac being in the game. I've watched a couple episodes. It's really not terrible at all, I'd probably enjoy it if I was a kid. I find the hate bizarrely overblown.

Also, somewhat unexpected but awesome that you got your nephew hooked on Xenoblade characters

I'm on the east coast, so yeah, my sleep schedule is pretty messed up, but it wasn't the PotD's doing. A combination of writing papers and not having class until 10-11 am in final semesters has permanently set my bedtime st around 2 am.

Some questions I had surrounding Alph's alt status:

- Why wasn't Alph split off into his own clone? It remains to be seen how different Doc and Pittoo are, but I imagine it wouldn't have been difficult to change something about Alph. An example is giving him Rock and Wing Pikmin in place of Purples and Whites respectively and giving them different effects. Admittedly, we don't yet know if he Purples are just reskinned as Rocks for Alph, which would make sense.

- Why not include Brittany as an alt? To some degree I can understand Louie and Charlie, but I still think that you could fudge their proportions to keep the hitboxes and physics the same. But Brittany would be really easy to implement as an alt. This question especially lingers after I think about the Bowser Jr. situation where seven separate characters are (probably) being used as alts. The proportions of the other captains are similar enough to Olimar/Alph that they could realistically be alts.

Rosalina sounds more...regal, refined. It's elegant, it's a name befitting a mystical space princess. Rosetta would be more fitting for a little girl.
