Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

So gaf, what's your smash bros game cred? Which characters on the roster have you played in other games? Which ones have you not?

I haven't played:
Fire Emblem
Donkey Kong Country
Xenoblade
Kid Icarus
F-Zero
Punch Out
Megaman (played a tiny bit of the first one but never got far tbh)
ROB's games.

List is bigger than expected but I've played at least a fair amount of the other games of featured characters.

I'm just scared about the controls for uprising lol

Not that bad. You can actually play with face buttons, if you want. Game is easier to control, but not as responsive, so it's really only feasible for lower difficulty. Totally worth playing, just don't let the controls make you afraid, it's vastly exaggerated.

My left hand gets tired doing the training in pokemon y and kid icarus is similar to that scheme right? Pit is one of my most used characters and I haven't played a single game of his lol

I crunched through xenoblade IN A WEEK. Well, 1.5 weeks. Very glad I did. I don't know that I have time to beat anything else before smash release. Maybe some mega man games, but i beat them all before. I can give pac-land a whirl? lol.

I think i've beaten/played all the games corresponding to all the newcomers. Shulk was the last one, and I just checked that off the list.

I've played and beaten:
Every SUPER mario game
Every Zelda game
Beaten yoshi's island, but not any other yoshi games
Every metroid game except hunters/pinball
Every mainline pokemon game except for X/Y and B/W2
Star fox snes/64
Every original DKC, and i'm halfway through DKCR, and TF is still shrink wrapped
Every numbered mega man game, every numbered X (except for 8)
Every pikmin game
Sonic 1, 2, 3, knuckles, and adventure - quit after that
Every punch out!! game
KI 1 and Uprising, haven't played GB one yet
Played every F-Zero (all tracks), but never 100%ed any of them
Fire emblem sacred stones and awakening - none of the others :/
Only Kirby on NES and super star (sorry, kirby is boring to me, I never make it past world 2).
Earthbound (but not mother 1 and 3)
All of the warioware games and Wario land shake it - none of the other warioland/world games - yet...
Played every animal crossing ever (put most time into original and 3DS - over 80 hours each)
Played every wii fit, but only the minigames
All of the game and watch collections
All of the mainline numbered metal gear games (and peace walker)
Played and hated Ice climbers, but love them in smash

Games I've never played, yet have smash bros reps:
Any ROB games
Mother 3
Any fire emblem STARRING marth or ike

I plan on doing the same (without skipping Kirby :P) and I recommend you try Starfox Adventures/Assault/Command and Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon/Path of Radiance/Radiant dawn

PD: I also hated Ice Climbers... that game is broken and boring :P But love them in smash too. Dig Dug was a lot better.

They're actually great controls, controls differently from a normal shooter, but definitely not in a way that it makes it control worse than a normal one, just in a way that makes it control differently. It really is like spinning a globe.

Also: you're f'd if you're lefthanded. The CPP option isn't helping :/
But the game was great!

I've never played as Ganondorf yet - due to region locking, I'll have to wait until the 20th before I can play Hyrule Warriors.

Oh, that's not what I meant by my question. Not who you haven't played as.

I meant have you played any of the games that characters COME FROM. If you played OoT, you've played the game that has Link, Zelda, Sheik, AND ganondorf, so you cross them off the list.

I've tried ALL of those, just never beaten them. I played about 10 hours of radiant dawn before quitting, and about 7 hours of shadow dragon. I've played every single kirby game ever made, but most of them for less than 5 hours. Same w/ star fox. I've only ever BEATEN the ones I listed.

It's not that bad being left handed, you just dash sometimes when you don't want to. Also, my right pinkie starts hurting after playing more than one mission in one sitting, even when holding it the right way. Still pretty good, as long as you have patience!

I don't understand people who...

Have difficult with K.I.U. controls...
Have difficulty with SS controls...
Have difficulty with DKCR controls...

I mean, honestly, I never had a problem with them after about ten minutes of playing and getting the hang of it. And I'm no video-game pro.

Just do the following:

1) Go into Options and max out turning and stopping speed for both Flight and Ground modes

2) When you first touch land in the first level, practice turning and stopping the camera with quick flicks and taps. A quick flick (like a millimeter on the screen), then a quick tap.

I had it down pat within the first three levels. And I was fairly comfortable by the end of the first.

So gaf, what's your smash bros game cred? Which characters on the roster have you played in other games? Which ones have you not?

Wii Fit
Kid Icarus
Xenoblade

Are the ones I haven't played the games of. I've played everything else, including Gyromite w/ ROB and the G&W games.

Edit: I take that back, I've played all Fire Emblems but Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, so I haven't played one with Ike.

Any fire emblem STARRING marth or ike

Never played a Fire Emblem starring Ike either. I've played every other game though. I've played Kid Icarus on the NES but can't remember if Palutina was in that one.

😊

I don't think it looks all that weird. Here's a mockup based on your original image, for reference (although I took the liberty of swapping in a transparent version of that Celebi image):

Guess it could work, yeah

I don't understand people who... Have difficult with K.I.U. controls...
In terms of actually playing the game with them, it's straightforward enough. It just cramps the hell out of my left hand (not the stylus hand, that one's fine; it's the one using the analog nub and L trigger), stand or no stand. I cannot explain it. Also, like hell I can readily use the DPad for item use; quickly moving the thumb down there is even more uncomfortable in practice, I've found.

Was going to list but then I realized it looks pretty bad for some of the franchises there.
Though I have at least played them all though beating them is another story.

I got Snake covered though if he decides to come back though.

I'll make a note if this thanks!

Mario: Played Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (got really far, didn't finish), Super Mario Bros. 3 (got about 1/2 way through), Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels (failed terribly), Super Paper Mario, Mario 64, Mario Party 2, Super Mario RPG, and am currently playing Super Mario 3D World

Luigi: See above, don't like Luigi except in the original Mario bros., Fire Luigi with the green and white outfit was amazing

Peach: Despise despite saving her a few times

Bowser: See above

Yoshi: My sister got Yoshi's Story from a friend for free, played it like crazy (mostly in a sibling competition for high scores)

Rosalina: I read the storybook online... and that's it, haven't even unlocked her in 3D world yet

Bowser Jr.: ...

Wario: Got a Wario Land game in the 3DS ambassador deal, played it for about 60 seconds total, also got a WarioWare game from the same deal and I played that like crazy and loved it

Mr. Game & Watch: e-reader ;_;

Donkey Kong: DK64 was pretty much my childhood and first 3D game, later on I got interested in the DKC series with the announcement of DKCR, and WOW, the DKC series is beyond amazing, played them all (except DKC3, they got taken down from the eShop before I finished the series). DKC2 Diddy's Kong-Quest in the best in the series. Despite the gameplay being 100% different I still love DK64 and think it's a great addition to the universe (except for Lankey Kong, I hate that smug idiot)

Diddy Kong: See above. It is my belief that all the "DKs" plastered all over the place actually stand for Diddy Kong but no one wants to break the news to Donkey Kong. Diddy Kong is the TRUE main character. Plus Diddy is a freakn' beast in DK64, and was the main character of the best game (DKC2)

Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, Toon Link: The Zelda series is my favorite video game series, and I have played and completed every single canon entry to the series. Except for Oracle of Ages (broke before I got to the end), Zelda II (I just... can't), and I don't own Four Sword Adventures. Wind Waker and Majora's Mask are my favorite, and my most hated Zelda games (that I've finished) are Phantom Hourglass and Four Swords.

Metroid: Played the NES game for years as a kid, never beat it, but it's just so atmospheric, I get chills at the title screen every time! Didn't like the gameplay of the Prime series, but I loved the atmosphere and lore. Played Prime 1 & 2, never finished. Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission are the only games I finished.

Kid Icarus Series: Beat the original NES game and Uprising, in the latter game I really fell in love with all the characters (except Viridi, she was annoying, but the good type of annoying you know?)

Marth: Played Shadow Dragon (WITHOUT battle animations, man were those ugly) and got stuck on the final battle, I should really finish that...

Ike: ...

Robin & Lucina: Fire Emblem Awakening is the best 3DS game... OF ALL TIME! And I may have married Lucina... so yeah biased.

Kirby: Played Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Return to Dreamland with my younger sister who loves the series, never played the older games.

Little Mac: NES Punch-Out and the Wii Punch-Out are amazing fun.

Star Fox: Got Star Fox 64 at a garage sale a few years ago for $2, didn't like it.

Pokemon: Generation 1 & 2 were great! Played Ruby but didn't like it because it didn't continue the "lore" and I didn't like most of the new Pokemon. Didn't play a new Pokemon game until Y just recently.

Duck Hunt: A BLAST when I was younger, cheating with the gun against the glass of the screen FTW!

ROB: ...

Ness: I love the entire MOTHER series, but I'm part of the group that likes 3 the best RIP Lucas ;_;

Captain Falcon: ...

Villager: I bought a gamecube solely for Animal Crossing (didn't realize there were other amazing games until later), first game and console I saved up for and bought myself. Never got any other Animal Crossing games, don't want to "replace" my precious village and my best friend Boots.

Olimar: Only played the entire Pikmin series about a year ago, but it's amazing and I never should have judged it as being "dumb" for all these years, I was SO wrong!

Shulk: Xenoblade... oh man was amazing. Funny thing is I never heard of this game, I was excited for The Last Story and that was the reason I got involved in Operation Rainfall, and THAT'S where I slowly got convince to get Xenoblade, and I never regretted it! Amazing game, sort-of ugly faces :P

Pac-Man: Played a bit of the original, never liked it that much

Mega-Man: ...

Sonic: Played a bit of 1 & 2, never liked them that much

Dr. Mario. THIS was my Tetris

Played every series but Pikmin and ROB. While I own Duck Hunt, I've never done any more with it than moving around the duck with the 2P pad due to lacking a proper Zapper setup.

I think the only ones series I have never tried is anything with Rob and G&W. All the others range from playing and beating every game in the series to just trying one entry.

EDIT: Oh wow and Xenoblade, still trying to find a copy under $100 or will be waiting for the n3DS version.

I mean, honestly, I never had a problem with them after about ten minutes of playing and getting the hang of it. And I'm no video-game pro.

I think the difference with KI:U is the complaint from most isn't that the control scheme doesn't work, but that it actually hurts some peoples' hands after extended play. That's my experience, at least. Everybody's different when it comes to flexibility and pain thresholds.

I don't think you'll find a lot of those same people saying it's a bad game. It's just one element that could be improved.

Pfff, those amateurs.

You want to see delusional? Here you go:

#Klonoa4Smash

#IWantToBelieve

I mean, why wouldn't Namco get a second rep? He's perfect, and they worked on the game. Plus it's about time they relaunch the franchise like Ubisoft did with Rayman.
What better way to reintroduce him than as a surprise Smash character?
I'm gonna boycott the game if he's not in for sure.
Dang I just imagined a hand-drawn HD Klonoa game. Why do you do this to me?

Ironically, Gamestop has the used copies back down to $50.

So gaf, what's your smash bros game cred? Which characters on the roster have you played in other games? Which ones have you not?

Lessee...

Played:
I've played an unhealthy collection of Mario, Sonic, Zelda and Kirby games, more or less all of their mainline titles.
I've played all the DKC games (and the arcade titles too). I have the carts for DKL 2 & 3 sitting around too, but I've never gotten far in either.
I've played all the G&W gallery titles, if that counts. Never used an actual G&W, though.
I've played Yoshi's Island, loved it, but totally turned off of all the other titles in the Yoshi "series."
I've played every Wario Land and WarioWare title.
I've played Kid Icarus in the past, never got too far, but I did play Uprising to completion.
Tried most of the Star Fox titles, spent a ton of time on 64 (and its remake).
I've played every Animal Crossing that came out in NA (though I lost interest in City Folk after a week since it felt like I'd played it before).
Played every Classic, X, Zero, ZX and Battle Network Mega Man game.
Used Wii Fit (and Plus and U, thanks freebie).
I've played NES and Wii Punch-Outs, tried Super on SNES once but never got too far.
Every Pikmin game. <3 Pikmin
I've played every main RPG Pokemon title and an unhealthy set of spinoffs. Thanks, childhood!
I've played every Metroid title, but never finished 2 or Other M.
I played Ice Climber a few times! But it's a bad game so never for long.
I've tried Fire Emblem a lot since they started coming over, never got too far in any of them until Awakening (where I'm on the last two missions but just put it down and never went back)
I've tried a lot of F-Zero games, but only put a lot of time into X. (I never did play GX, I feel like I've missed out there.)
The whole Mother series <3
I've tried almost all of Pac-Man's arcade titles at least once, and I've played the original a ton on various home ports. Never played too much of the World series, but I did try them.
I'm currently playing through Xenoblade right now (or trying, anyway). It's more fun than the first time I played but I've got a lot of distractions keeping me from spending too much time on it.
I've played a few MGS titles, not to completion. Something I'm looking to rectify eventually.

Not played:
Never played either of ROB's games. I have played with a ROB before though, when I was about 5 and didn't know what he was supposed to do.

tl;dr i play too many nintendo games.

Lists of series with playable characters in Smash that I have never played:

For a significant amount of time? Damn. If not, meh. I could say the same if you counted cameos and really small (like 5 minutes) amounts of playtime I guess. Hell, if you are a 3DS Ambassador, that covers most the series in Smash.

I've played and beaten most Marios, Most Zeldas, Most Pokemon, and most Metroids.
I've played all US Fire Emblem's, and beaten the Radiant duo and Awakening.
I've played and beaten a number of Kirby games, but not most of them. (There are a lot!)
I've played and beaten all the Sonic games worth doing so.
I've played every Starfox game except SNES and beaten all of them.
I've played a number of Megaman games but only beaten a few.
I've played Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man countless times.
I've played Kid Icarus and played and completed Kid Icarus: Uprising
I've played and beaten all three Pikmin games.
I've played a bit of Wario Land 4 and have beaten the first Wario Ware and Smooth Moves.
I've played Punch-Out for NES and the new one for Wii. Beat Wii Punch-Out.
I've played every Animal Crossing game.
I've played Wii Fit.
I've played but haven't beaten Xenoblade.
I've played but haven't beaten Earthbound.
I've played and beaten every mainline MGS game.

The only represented character I haven't played is the ROB games.

Lists of series with playable characters in Smash that I have never played:

Nice. Still need to try mother 3 and gyromite, and then technically i've played everyone's games. The thing w/ gyromite is that even if you play an emulated copy, it's not 'REALLY' playing w/ rob unless you have an actual working rob :/

I was born in 85 and I don't think my dad got an NES until 87-88. I distinctly remember him playing Zelda when I was 2-3 (it's literally my first memory), so zelda was imprinted on me at a young age. Since he didn't get it until zelda came out, we never got ROB. I've never bothered to track one down, because I've always been aware of what a dumb gimmick his was, and that his games are no fun to actually play. I don't know that I ever will.

I'd try mother 3, but I wouldn't have time to beat it between now and smash 4 release, so i'd never finish it.

For a significant amount of time? Damn. If not, meh.
Most are played and beaten. I rarely, rarely just go "Okay, I've played this for five minutes" unless the game is exceptionally bad or is a text adventure in a language I do not understand.

Have you actually played with ROB or have you just played one of the games using a second controller to simulate ROB?

I have played with ROB. My next door neighbor had it.

So gaf, what's your smash bros game cred? Which characters on the roster have you played in other games? Which ones have you not?
Hard to be comprehensive without a list in front of me... but I've played most of the games represented. All of the mainline Zelda, Pokemon, probably Mario games, etc. A few games missing here and there with other series.

I've never played any of Rob's games, though I've seen him in F-Zero GX (right, in that one level wasn't he?). I own Gyromite too, but haven't tried to play it. It was cheap, and I wanted to see if it had the adapter thing in it (it did, though I doubt I'll use it).

Oh, and Mr. Game and Watch kinda. I've played a couple of the G&W Gallery Gameboy games, and the two DS games that were Club Nintendo goodies. And I played the Ball rerelease when one of my friends got it. But as far as I know and remember, I've never played a legitimate Game & Watch.

I haven't played Kid Icarus Uprising but I'm sure I would be put at a disadvantage and feel uncomfortable with the controls since I'm left handed even if it is doable.

I'm left dominant and never had any issues with control. It feels awkward at first but it didn't take me long to get used to and I never felt like I was at a disadvantage.

I don't think there's a single character in smash bros that comes from a 'this game is bad in 5 minutes' series. Maybe some of their entries, but at least ONE of the games in their franchise is great, if not a masterpiece.
Except ice climbers - barf

Pokemon have had a few stinkers, and arguably some other franchises (I didn't like prime hunters, for example).

Oh wait, I haven't played ROB's game. And I'm not sure I played Duck Hunt either, although I definitely remember watching someone play it when I was a kid. So yeah, those two and Wii Fit are the ones I haven't played.

Did you change the control set up? I have had others tell me they just couldn't get used to using the a/b/x/y buttons.

Are there still item boxes on wheels? My friends and I gleefully exclaiming "box on wheels!" when one shows up and causes mayhem is a treasured Brawl memory.
