Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Mario: Started with SMB 1, all the NES games, SMW, all the 3D main series, Karts, played various spinoffs, etc.
Zelda: All except CD-i games
Metroid: All of them
DK: OG on the Colecovision, All DKC games but only played 1/2 of DKC 3, but skipped DK 64. Played Jungle Beat, and the Returns series.
Pokemon: The one series I just don't really care for. Played about 20 hours of Yellow, and that was about it
Yoshi: All except the latest one.
StarFox: OG Star Fox, SF64, SFA, Command and Assault.
Kid Icarus: NES and Uprising.
Kirby: Original game, Canvas Curse, Kirby's dreamland
Fire Emblem: Since they came over, all of them with the exception of the Wii one.
Punch Out: OG Arcade, NES, SNES and Wii one.
Wario: Wario land games (starting with Super Mario Land 3) and all of the Warioware games.
Earthbound: Yes, haven't played Mother 3
Ice Climbers: Yes, never got too into it though.
Pikmin: All of them.
Sonic: Sonic 1 and 2 on Genesis, The Master Drive one ported to the Game Gear. Also Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on DC.
Metal Gear: Metal Gear 1, MGS 1, 2, 3, 4, Twin Snakes. Haven't played Revengeance yet.
Animal Crossing: The GCN (I guess the 64 one) and that was enough.
Wii Fit: Yes.
Xenoblade: Yes, if you count the other Xeno sears, Xenoblade, and XS 1.
Megaman: MM: 1 - 8, MMX: 1-3.
Pac-Man: Yes, never played the non WOKKA-WOKKA games.
Duck Hunt: Of course.
F-Zero: SNES, 64 and GCN.
Game&Watch: Surprisingly, I had one where you dodge like tools as they're falling from the sky.
Edit: Forgot about ROB. Yeah I had one of those too.

Are people seriously posting lists of games that they've played now? Some of ya'all must be reeeeeally bored.

Also whoever said that any of the DKC games are bad is nuts. If you don't like it then that's fine, not every game is for everyone, but holy hell are they some of the most well-crafted 2D platformers. Both Rare and Retro did a great job.

Huh, I'm surprised so few people played Metal Gear games. Try them guys, they're crazy. Original MGS is pretty dated by now, but MGS2 is absolutely insane and MGS3 is one of the best games ever. Also, few games can boast as ridiculous attention to detail as MGS2. Aaand as a bonus they allow a peak into the mind of master troll, Hideo Kojima. Immersing into the series makes his antics seem even crazier.

I played MGS1 for PSX on the PS3 just some years ago and it didn't feel dated at all. It works on PSP and PS Vita as well, people should try it, Snake is there with the awesome story and voice acting. MGS2 features too much Raiden...

I was just thinking that this thread really died down since the 3DS Japan demo impressions.

Maybe that menu PotD just killed the hype hahaha

Pre-order get.

nice to see somebody else import physical :)

Them be fighting words.
Sorry but the level design was a little all over the place. The enemy design similarly was awkward and terrible. Kremlins the standard enemy are too tall and halt the pace of the platformer. Compare to platformers like Mario where goombas and Koopas are an appropriate height for the flow of a platformer and you dont need to come to a stop to try and jump over them. Also the hit detection was funky with me getting hurt even though I clearly landed on the enemies head or going right through enemies. On top of that the game on a frequent basis would ask you to take jumps where you couldnt see the platform you needed to land on. Garbage is a bit extreme but they had a lot of issues that frustrated me.

Retro's on the other hand was fast paced and incredibly tight. Every enemy and platform had a purpose in the level and reason why they were placed there.

This seems kind of interesting to do.

Mario: Super Mario Bros 3 was the first video game I owned, and probably the second or third most played game of my entire life. I love the Mario series, platformers are my favorite genre, so you can bet I've beaten basically all the main series games and a number of spinoff titles.

Zelda: While I really like Zelda, I rarely complete the games. I finished Windwaker and Ocarina of Time(the 3DS version) but I don't think I've beaten anything else. I've played a lot of most of them though.

Metroid: I've played a little bit of the original, Super, and Fusion. My brother loved the Prime games so I watched him play through a lot of those. Not a big series for me.

Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong Country was my first SNES game and the first game I myself owned as a kid instead of shared with my lil' brother. DKC2 and 3 were HUGE games for my friends in grade school, and Diddy Kong Racing was our favorite N64 game... until Smash Bros.

Yoshi: Yoshi's Island was a lot of fun, but Yoshi's Story was an obsession of mine in grade school. 100%ed that game. Haven't played the DS or 3DS games.

StarFox: 64 was great and the rest of the series basically never interested me.

Kid Icarus: Had the NES game but hated it, felt too clunky and weird to navigate. Uprising is one of my favorite games of all time, though, and I'm on my 3rd playthrough right now to tide me over until Smash 4.

Kirby: KIRBYYYYY. My favorite franchise in all of gaming (if KI: Uprising got a sequel it might beat it out), didn't play the GB games until recently but Adventure and Super Star were total obsessions for me. I 100%ed both of those games, Super Star multiple times for fun. I'd hit 100% on all three saves, delete them all, and do it again. Super Star's co-op was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

Fire Emblem: My first was 'Sacred Stones', given to me for free from the 3DS Ambassador program. I didn't play very much of it, since the game intimidated me (despite being one of the easier games in the series) and the tutorial just felt like it took way too long. Awakening, however, made me fall in love with the series. I beat that game three times, each on a progressively harder difficulty, and intend to go back and play Sacred Stones when I get some free time. I'm hoping they announce another FE game for 3DS in the next two or three years.

Punch Out: A game my older cousins absolutely loved on the NES, and something I'd played a little bit here and there. Picked it up on the Wii Virtual Console, and then got the Wii game when it came out too. Really fun series, but never holds my interest for long. Great characters.

Wario: I have never played a Wario Land game, despite getting 4 for free with the 3DS Ambassador program. But I love love love Warioware as a series, especially the original, Touched, the Gamecube party game, and DIY. I spent a lot of time in DIY figuring out how to do creative things with the simple programming tools, it was like Mario Paint got a cool video game maker sequel.

Earthbound: Unfortunately I have not been able to play this game. The Blockbuster near me as a kid always had the giant box on display but the game was NEVER available to rent in all the years I wanted to check it out. And then it became so expensive I couldn't buy a used copy. And I don't own a Wii U... Earthbound is the game I want to play and have never managed to find.

Gyromite (ROB): Had this! ROB was cool but after like 10 minutes we just gave up on using him for the game and would either 1: just press the buttons ourselves, or 2: use the flashing screen to make him pick up other toys and shake them around. The Power Rangers never knew a more powerful giant robot foe.

Ice Climbers: Somehow got this game for the NES before Melee existed, hated it. Gave it a try again after Melee came out. Still hated it. Bad game, awkward jumping controls and frustrating goals for players.

Pikmin: I never played this series but my little brother loved it. Watched him play a lot. Always liked the pikmin themselves.

Sonic: I was an SNES kid, and was always jealous of my friends who had a Genesis. But in the end, I realized I was only ever jealous because uh, just Sonic. I loved Sonic games but it wasn't until the Dreamcast I was able to play them at my own house. Adventure 1 and 2 were fun but the series went to shit afterwards. Colors and Generations were good at least.

Metal Gear: MGS2 was the first one of this series I played, and oh boy what an introduction that was. Went on to play MGS3, MGS1, Portable Ops, and MGS4. In that order. Let me tell you, if you think the story's confusing when playing the games in the right order, you've got nothing on me. RIP Snake.

Animal Crossing: Loved the original, loved the DS game, loved the 3DS game. The Wii one was okay. I always make tons of patterns for all sorts of things, this game lets me customize endlessly. New Leaf is the pinnacle of the series so far, try it if you haven't.

Wii Fit: Helped me lose about 90lbs in my first two years of college (not on it's own, but was a good supplement for working out at the gym and making sure I get some cardio in every day). Unfortunately I put all that weight back on... I'm basically a huge human garbage bag. Should start using it again.

Xenoblade: Thought I wouldn't have enough time for a JRPG, so I didn't buy it. Didn't end up having enough time for a JRPG. Might buy it for the New 3DS after I graduate this year.

Megaman: SUPER FIGHTING ROBOT, my favorite character in any video game as a kid. I owned 2, 3, and 4. Rented 5, 6 and 7. Basically got a PS1 to be able to play 8. X never interested me, Legends was cool, EXE was kinda fun. But Classic's my boy.

Pac-Man: Weirdly enough, most of my Pac-Man love comes from Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures for the SNES. Such a weird non-linear game with some incredibly sandbox nonsense for the time. Pac-Man's uncontrollable emotions and the huge number of ways you could basically trick him into murdering himself entertained me for hours. I went through a 'Pac-Man phase' as a really young kid due to this game and just was obsessed with everything Pac-Man. Except there was no cartoon and the only toys of him were from the 80s so I couldn't really do anything about it.

Duck Hunt: Quack quack quack. Played it a lot. One fine afternoon at my grandmother's house, my brother and I discovered we could control the ducks with P2's controller. Lots of fun after that revelation.

F-Zero: Rented F-Zero X for the 64 and thought it was cool but felt like it wasn't "for me", since I was pretty young at the time and the game was dark, fast, and full of crazy heavy metal guitar stuff. Bought GX many years later and felt like it wasn't "for human beings" because holy shit that game is hard.

Game&Watch: I actually had a few tiny Gameboy-shaped G&W Minis or whatever they were called. Tiny single-screen keychain games. One of them was based on Super Mario Bros, another was uh... I want to say DK Jr? The iconic lil' Mr. Game & Watch was nowhere to be seen but I understood what he was meant to be from when he was introduced in Melee.

Still holding out hope that we get a control scheme in Smash that allows you to point to areas of the screen where you want Pac Man to go to, and hope that he listens.

Still holding out hope that we get a control scheme in Smash that allows you to point to areas of the screen where you want Pac Man to go to, and hope that he listens.

*proceeds to shoot you in the face with a slingshot to make you feel the pain Pac-Man feels every time you do this*

Just no :(

Is it a majority? Well, a number of us are, at any rate. I think it's the safest bet, and even with the four cuts, it's still a damn good roster, I think.
Soo...what is your argument against not all characters being included in the leaked portion of the ESRB trailer now that the whole "different saves or different progress" theory based on the Barbera trophy has been debunked?

So are are the majority of us going with the assumption that the leak was the final roster? :(

Yeah. I think most people are open to the idea that there might be a few more characters but aren't expecting it to be true. A pleasant surprise if there is, not a big deal if there isn't.

Pokemon: At least one mainline game/remake since Blue, Pokemon Stadium, Snap
Mother: Earthbound (~2 hours)
Metroid: Own all of them now, except Hunters & Prime 3. Only finished Zero Mission so far, though.

Haven't Played

ROB: Nope, again probably too young.
Game and Watch: Nope. Once again probably too young.

36% in denial
myself included

Also: How soon before pokemon X/Y launch did it leak to stores in japan? What is the typical length of time a japanese retailer gets the game before launch? When should we reasonably be expecting a leak to happen? It's 7 Am tuesday right now, in japan, so shipments, I presume could be arriving in stores pretty soon. Could tonight be our night?

I guess not. I thought the Mario's Early Years games were for PC. Add those three to the list of games I never played. I'm counting The Game and Watch Galleries as part of the Game & Watch series.

With titles like Mario Clash and Mario is Missing (SNES), I find it unlikely that many people here have actually played every Mario game.

I've played 95% of the garbage on that list. Missing included. I have not played key titles such as 'teaches typewriting,' however.

You're avatar makes that unsurprising and makes me like you quite a bit. Viewtiful Joe is one of my favorite games of all time!

Ha, it's one of mine as well, of course! The Viewtiful Joe references alone would have made The Wonderful 101 worth it for me.
Incidentally, Viewtiful Joe is also the best game that features ROB :p

wow i'm in the minority.

i feel like it's the most obvious answer though. the esrb build is the full roster for 3ds, but there will be additional free dlc characters upon the wii u release.

i sure as hell won't be paying for content i already have on my wii u...

They're obviously going to make you pay for that content on Wii U too. With no cross-buy.

With titles like Mario Clash and Mario is Missing (SNES), I find it unlikely that many people here have actually played every Mario game.

Really? I'd asume that many on Gaf would at least try them out for a few minutes out of morbid curiosity. That's why I played about an hour of Mario is Missing.

With titles like Mario Clash and Mario is Missing (SNES), I find it unlikely that many people here have actually played every Mario game.

I've actually played MiM; I rented the NES game is a kid and my college's video game club actually has the SNES version. My one friend got right about to the end before giving up.

Still haven't played Clash/Time Machine/other obscure or terrible ones, but I hope to play Hotel Mario some day.

Lists? I love lists!

Mario: Played a lot of those games. I don't think I've played all (particularly from the spin-offs - never got much into the Mario Party or RPG series for instance), but from the mainline platformers, I've played basically all of them, except for the Wii U titles. I also played Hotel Mario.
Yoshi: I haven't played the DS game (although I was tempted to get it at numerous occasions), but I have played Yoshi's Island - which is one of my favorite SNES games of all time - and Yoshi's Story, which was alright.
Wario: I played the entire Wario Land series, all of WarioWare except for Game & Wario, and even Master of Disguise. Both Wario franchises are among my favorite Nintendo series.
Donkey Kong: I have played the original trilogy, DK64 and the racing games. Sadly I have not gotten around to play DKCR or Tropical Freeze.
Game and Watch: In the German region these little things were distributed by a company called Tricotronic. :) I had a few of those as a kid!
Zelda: I played all of the games up until and including Ocarina of Time, and only a little bit of Majora's Mask. Including the 3 CD-i games. I didn't like the turn the series had taken with the 3D games, though, so I never really went back to it, though I'm tempted to pick up the 3DS game.
Metroid: Played all of the series including Prime Pinball and Hunters. Have loved most of the games, though my favorite is probably Zero Mission. One of my top favorite Nintendo series of all time.
Kid Icarus: Only played the NES and Game Boy games, never Uprising. It's on my to-do list though.
Fire Emblem: Only played Sacred Stones, and it was okay. I enjoy the Shining Force series more. My sister has played and loves Ike's games though.
Kirby: I played most of the Kirby games at this point, even though my favorite remains the very first one without copy abilities. Granted, I haven't played more recent installments - the last I played was Squeak Squad (and I very much enjoyed it, so I don't get the hate).
Punch-Out!!: Only the NES game.
Star Fox: All of the series, entirely. Hated Adventures, didn't like Command either. Assault was okay.
Pokemon: Only Red/Blue, and like, the first 30 minutes of Gold/Silver. Never got into the series.
Duck Hunt: Only played it on emulator.
ROB: Never got to play the games cause I never had the toy, but I really want one for collector's purposes.
Mother: Played all 3 and enjoyed the games very much. One of the few RPG series that kept me entrenched.
F-Zero: Probably my favorite Nintendo series period. I played all the games, except for the Arcade F-Zero AX (there's not machines for those where I live, sadly).
Animal Crossing: One of the series I never touched.
Pikmin: I own Pikmin and Pikmin 2, but never got around playing them.
Wii Fit: I have "played" it a bit at my friend's. But I'm a fatty Fat McFattington.
Dr. Mario: Played a lot of the versions - NES, Game Boy, 64, SNES (Tetris & Dr. Mario)... none of the newer titles, though I plan on grabbing Dr. Luigi once I get my Wii U.
Xenoblade: Never.
Pac-Man: I played a LOT of Pac-Mania when I was a kid, and also played plenty of other Pac-Man versions over time.
Mega Man: Played all classic games (1-10, I-V, the DOS games, and RM&F), all X games (1-8 and Command Mission), all Battle Network games (1-6, 4.5, Network Transmission and Battle Chip Challenge), both ZX games, all Legends games (including Tron Bonne's Misadventures) and the first 2 Zero games. Never finished the latter.
Sonic: Plenty. Basically every title up to Black Knight/Unleashed (forgot which came first). Since then never really got around to buy any.
Metal Gear Solid: No. But I did play the NES Metal Gears. Don't seem to count tho. :P
Ice Climbers: Yes.

Those franchise list would take two hours or so for me to explain everything so I will keep it simple.

Including leak characters, I haven't complete MGS, FE and Xenoblade but I have played those games for brief.

Mario: First game was Super Mario World. My first memory of Mario was watching my dad play Super Mario Bros. 3 at like 1 AM, unbeknownst to him. He was fighting Wendy O. Koopa - it's actually one of my earliest memories. I've played basically all of the mainline stuff and most of the spin-off stuff (what's worth playing, anyway).

Zelda: First game was A Link to the Past. I vividly remember getting literally all stuff I could (or thought that I could) - Ice Rod, Heart Pieces, Bottles, Bombs, Boomerang, Lantern, etc. - and then never beating the Eastern Palace for a long time because I was afraid of the orbs that launched down the narrow hallway when you entered. I've since obviously grown more accustomed to it, and I've played and beaten most Zelda games. The only ones I haven't beaten are Zelda II, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Spirit Tracks.

Metroid: Started playing Metroid when I traded a game for Metroid II, Dr. Mario, and Kirby's Dream Land. I enjoyed it, and then a while later my mom bought me Super Metroid at a rummage sale for a dollar, and that too was pretty fun. I eventually went on to get most of the Metroid titles, though I haven't beaten a lot of them. I'm planning on finally getting around to beating Prime.

Donkey Kong: Oddly enough, I never got super into the DKC series. I didn't grow up in the arcade era so the original DK games were lost on me, and the gameplay of DKC never clicked with me. They were good, no doubt about that, but I don't have fond memories. Due to nostalgia, I probably think more fondly of DK64 than any of the DKC trilogy. The only DK game besides DK on GB (which I love) that I've beaten is Returns on 3DS.

Pokemon: I actually bought Pokémon Red about a year before I owned a Game Boy, but when I got the Game Boy, I discovered that I lost it. My dad thankfully bought me Pokémon Blue instead. I later found Red and traded it to my friend for a game I don't remember. I later bought Silver, which I enjoyed a lot. After that, I took a break, and skipped past the Ruby and Sapphire generation. Got back into it with Diamond and Pearl, though Pokémon has never impressed me like it did with Silver.

Yoshi: First game was Yoshi's Story, which I enjoyed quite a bit. I recognized that it's flawed in a lot of ways, but at least they tried something new, unlike Yoshi's Island DS and New Island. I never really played YI on the SNES - I was aware of it, and played it some, but my first real playthrough was on GBA. Beat it and YS, but didn't beat DS or New Island.

StarFox: Another series that I'm kinda down on. Not that I dislike it - I own or have owned the Super NES, Nintendo 64, and DS games at one point or another - but for some reason it doesn't really click with me. Haven't found a Star Fox game that I love quite yet.

Kid Icarus: Didn't grow up with Kid Icarus, got into it on Wii Virtual Console. The first and only game I've beaten in the series is Uprising. I loved that game quite a bit, and it stands as my top title in the series. This shouldn't serve to discredit the original, of course.

Kirby: Been a big fan of the series ever since I was a wee child. My first experience w/ it was Kirby's Adventure, when my aunt and uncle rented it for my cousin and I. We took turns playing through levels, though he was better because he was older at the time. He beat the final boss while I watched, and I remember being one step away from falling asleep. I later got my own copy of Kirby's Dream Land, and then got Kirby Super Star (which stands as my favourite multi-player game on Super NES). I've bought most Kirby games since.

Fire Emblem: I got Fire Emblem around when it first released, but I found it too hard at the time. Skipped SS, PoR, and RD, but got SS later. Bought Awakening, it was the first FE game I'd ever beaten. I plan on going back and finishing the two GBA Fire Emblems soon.

Punch Out!!: First experience was renting Super Punch-Out!! on Super NES. I liked it quite a bit - I even managed to get to Mr. Sandman! He totally creamed me, though. :( I later got Punch-Out!! on Wii VC, and bought Punch-Out!! for Wii (which is the only one I've beaten).

Wario: I started with Wario Land 3, though I was aware of Wario Land II. It stands as one of my favourite platform games ever. Bought Wario Land 4 right when it launched, and while I liked it a lot, I disliked the departure from 3's invincibility gimmick. Played and enjoyed the WarioWare series, but didn't like that Wario became defined by his WarioWare titles.

Earthbound: Own and beat the Super NES one about 15 times, favourite game of all time. Played Mother 3 at least a few times. Amazing game, but falls slightly short of the original.

Gyromite (ROB): My dad owned R.O.B., so I played it a bit, but I think I didn't get how it worked so I never made progress in it.

Ice Climber: My dad owned a lot of NES games, including this. It was at least okay.

Pikmin: Played all three of them. The GameCube was my first home console that I owned outright, and I had Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Monkey Ball, and Pikmin. Got Pikmin 2 for my birthday years later and loved it.

Sonic: Didn't grow up with it - my first real Sonic title was Sonic Adventure 2. I got Sonic Mega Collection because I decided that I wanted to like the Sonic games, but it never clicked with me.

Metal Gear: I find stealth games too stressful, so I've not gotten into the 3D MGS titles. I did play and enjoy the GBC game, though.

Animal Crossing: Enjoyed the GC game and the 3DS game, but I disliked the Wii and DS games a bit.

Wii Fit: Bought and used both Wii Fit and U for a long time.

Xenoblade: Bought it, but I have yet to play it.

Mega Man: Didn't really grow up with Mega Man. That said, I've recently gotten into the classic Mega Man and X titles, and gotten really good at them. Beat Mega Man 2 and X, and almost there with 1 and 3.

Pac-Man: No arcade lifestyle, but I liked the original a lot. I really, really loved Championship Edition DX, though.

Duck Hunt: Parents had an NES, so it only stands to reason that I would have played it. I actually owned all three iterations of it.

F-Zero: Haven't played any of them super in depth yet, but I enjoyed what I played.

Game&Watch: Parents had a single Game & Watch system that I played off-and-on, and I enjoyed the Game & Watch Gallery games.

They're obviously going to make you pay for that content on Wii U too. With no cross-buy.

i don't think nintendo are scummy enough to introduce paid dlc on release day. equally 3ds dlc should be free - it should be viewed as content always intended for the original 3ds game but was released afterwards.

i also wonder if the original leak of the dlc being lucas, wolf, chorus kids, ice climbers will be the truth. sakurai only ever promised "a few" more newcomer videos on robin release. maybe it makes more sense for the remaining characters to be primarily veterans.

I've played 95% of the garbage on that list. Missing included. I have not played key titles such as 'teaches typewriting,' however.

Really? I'd asume that many on Gaf would at least try them out for a few minutes out of morbid curiosity. That's why I played about an hour of Mario is Missing.

I know I haven't played every Mario game, but I have played both of those :p

Huh, Mario Clash was the one I thought would trip people up. Morbid curiosity is one thing (my friend just bought PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for us to play soon) but buying a Virtual Boy and a copy of the game is completely different territory.

Speaking of the Virtual Boy - why the hell wasn't there a Virtual Boy stage on the 3DS version? That would've been so cool, especially with 3D. They could've made Virtual Boy Wario Land (AKA the only good Virtual Boy game) Wario's stage. It's not like Nintendo has completely ignored the Virtual Boy - it's been in several games like Animal Crossing and was even featured in the Tomodachi Life Direct.
Like it or not, it's a part of Nintendo's handheld history.
