Xbox One sold 23k during launch week in Japan, TitanFall best-selling title

If they can maintain half of these numbers for like 2 more weeks they can send out a PR piece saying Xbone outsold PS4 at least in one country...

wah?

PS4 - 322,083 + (whatever after launch) = +322,083

X1 - 23,562 + ((0.5 x 23,562) x 4) = 70,686

Even rounding up the days for X1, it will most likely never reach PS4 sales,

That is much better than I expected which was like 1200 units, especially considering the lines were practically empty. This is Xbox in Japan. Xbox has never been remotely popular in Japan.

No, but again, this is much worse:

How are people saying "not too bad" about this? In 4 days they managed 7% of what the PS4 did in 2 days. Or in other words, the PS4 sold 14 times as much in half the time.

Ok, so we already knew MS struggles in Japan. But this is still much worse than previous launches. The XBO, in 4 days, did 23% of what the original Xbox did in 3 days, or 37% of what the 360 did in 2 days.

It's terrible. By far the worst Japanese Xbox launch ever.

23k sold is not good yet it's one of those situations where it's still alot better than not having launched there at all. Whatever they manage to sell there will just be a bonus of sorts.

wah?

X1 - 23,562 + ((0.5 x 23,562) x 2) = 47, 124

X1 will most likely never reach PS4 sales

Pretty sure he meant for the month.

We have previous sales figures for MS consoles in this thread!

This is bad compared to the low precedent set by MS.

Worse than the most pessimistic expectation.

And yet still better than I had hoped. It's for the betterment of my favourite genre that the Xbox One fails spectacularly in Japan, here's why:

http://gematsu.com/2014/06/new-azito-raiden-announced-xbox-one

The worse the bone does, the higher the chance that those companies will in addition release on PS4, which would give them higher sales on their home turf as well as abroad. It's too much of a niche market to be split, I can't even comprehend why they picked that platform - seems unlikely MS would bother bribing them.

It's not bad, basically the same launch numbers as the original Xbox:

Xbox 123k
Xbox one23k

So great!

Doesn't look good to me in terms of indicating much chance for change. Looking at numbers PS4 did 320K or so in 3 days vs 23K in 4 days for XB1?

Unless MS can keep the weekly sales at launch level - which is surely unfeasible - it's going to drop and given PS4 dropped from over 300K launch to below 10K (with practically no local games to be fair) I can only presume XB1 will soon be well below 10K and probably below PS4 in weekly sales.

I expect PS4 to pick up with games but I don't see XB1 doing much at all based on that launch.

All eyes on China!

It's not that bad, is it?

Dat TitanFall atach rate

Very decent figures. But let's see if they can do what Sony couldn't and maintain that momentum.

WUT?
It is a horrible number for the HW. The attach rate for TF is good, also because it is bundled, but still awful as a general number.
This gen we saw the Wii U being able to see just a 17% drop fron the Wii launch, despite the Wii being THE console for the Japanese market when it debuted, and the PS4 to increase 400% over the (very bad) PS3 debut.
What was/is missing is the ability to keep a solid weekly pace in the sales.
With a 55% drop compared to the Xboe360, I can only imagine how long the Xbone will resist over 2k weekly sales.

MS PR: We launched the Xbox One Jack of all trades master of none system in Japan and after news began to spread that we had sold one console sales grew by 23, 000% outselling the PS4 and Wii U.

Considering the state of the market (consoles selling like shit, PS4 is already a well established console) the sales are acceptable.

BREAKING: XBOX 1 OUTSELLS PLAYSTATION 4 AND WII U IN JAPAN

Congrats Microsoft on expanding into second tier countries and continuing your record setting world wide sales rate.

/sarcasm

I'm disappointed that this wasn't the first post.
There will be a thread, don't worry

Take these Xbox 360 weekly sales figures, discard the first four weeks (December holidays) and divide them by 2 or 2.5 and that will be the performance we can expect for Xbox One after its launch.

More like on life support and a weak pulse, sure.
The PS3 launched with way worse numbers and notably more expensive than the PS4 and look how it picked up the pace in Japan! It eventually sold so well that arguably the most anticipated RPG not made by square, Persona 5, was gonna come only on PS3.

The Ps4 is not in life support in Japan. Let's face it, the PS2 days where they dominated from start to finish are over. The PS4 will pick up the slack once Japanese games tailored to their audience start to come out. There's only so much Killzone, Assassins Creed, The Last of Us Remastered and FIFA will do for you in Japan.

I guess it's possible XBONE JP will never reach Ps4's launch week sales in Japan.

Well that was better than expected.

Part of me was expecting it to debut at around or below 10k, based of the near non-existant flurry of people buying the system day one.

That only means there's more preorders online than at stores. Lack of queues doesn't always mean terrible sales, though it's a good indication.

how so? it's very possible they won't even be able to recoup whatever fixed localization + manufacturing + marketing + other costs specific to that market due to never achieving an economy of scale.

PS3 was stock constrained, but it's true that it didn't sell great at the beginning.
However launch aligned (28 weeks in) PS3 was at 939K while PS4 is at 666K.
PS4 opened higher but it's pace at the moment is worse than PS3.
