Wrath of the Lich King: Alpha leak compendium; title music suite, abilities, pictures

God,
Varian is an idiot. Absolutely no logic at all to his actions. I don't give a crap if Bolvar was his good friend, there's absolutely no reason, motivation, or even benefit to starting war with the Alliance. Almost to the point where I wish Blizzard's writers had come up with a better excuse to satiate the Horde/Alliance war fans.

Hooray!

Edit - I wish Varian looked a bit more... pleasant

I can agree with some of his reasoning of not wanting much to do with the Horde, Thrall has done a piss poor job of managing his allies. Coming out of enslavement from the Old Horde, being told how things have changed, then being blindsided by Undead, the Forsaken, Bolvar and his people dying, and seeing what's been going on in Lorderon is a good excuse is any, IMO.

In terms of pure logic, it's a bad time to pick a fight, but I don't think it's forced at all

Sylvanas and Varian's new models are great looking, what they've managed in general to make that old engine do in Northrend is just psychotic.

I wish Varian looked a bit more... pleasant

Dudes been an enslaved gladiator, he's supposed to be tough n' mean.

Yeah, but he just looks constipated there.

Guessing he works with one of the groups that makes fan-made movies using the engine. Obviously one of the better groups that now gets commissioned by Blizzard to do official vids for them.

Nope, I actually am at Blizzard. I am a fan, and I do help to create the movies, so I guess you can say I help to create fan-made movies :lol

Either way, very neat! Good work too. =p

New models look great and it seems like they are really going for an Epic Expansion. All the lore etc makes Burning Crusade seem so mild an expansion.

So sad I still await a beta invite though :(

Yeah they've improved quite a bit from TBC. Makes you wonder what they'll be able to pull for the expansion after WotLK, especially considering they'll be digging deeper for lore that not everyone is as familiar with (Maelstrom, Emerald Dream, or whatever it might be) as they were with Illidan and Arthas

Shaders used for calculating lighting on models has changed.
Its smoother now and removes many of the old edges caused by the mesh.

Here ya go.

hope and pray they put that attention to detail for the players eventually? They are really getting some nice results but its gonna be so sad to see our janky characters around these well detailed ones

Wow they finally changed her model. She looks cool and more like the original one now.

Hopefully they'll do the other main characters too (and maybe our own character models? hah).

So umm... this is a standard build for solo DKs?

http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=jfVMqh0IsfoxzAo0xxzhZf

I've been using a 51 pt Unholy build for leveling (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=jZZfM0ILckxcq0csdp). I've been able to take on like 4-5 mobs at once in just quest reward gear. Run around, pull 2-3 mobs, use death grip to pull one more, then frost strike and plague strike to disease an enemy, pestilence to spread the disease to all the other enemies, death and decay for aoe damge, and then use death strike to heal whenever its up, unholy blight for more aoe when i can. Usually end up with full runic power and health.

Anyone know if WotLK is going to be available via digital download as soon as it's released?

I had hoped they would put it up right away, but I haven't seen any info on it. TBC was available about 2 weeks after launch, I assume they've caved to the retail lobby and are doing that once again.

Looks like the only option for getting the game on or near release is the old brick and mortar.

Seriously though, physical media is, like, so 20th century.

Oh great;
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=10043242718&sid=2000

My main is a frost mage, I'm leveling a rogue and I really want an unholy death knight.
I can't really see the rogue issue yet as I'm not level 70 (Or near it. Don't have any time to play for a long time:( ), but I really see the point in frost.
Deep Freeze is really over powered for PVP right now. Problem is what do you nerf? Any balance to PVP may ruin the spell for PVE. Right now it looks like the stun may break after some damage (should quite honestly break after any damage) and deal about 150-200 less damage on max rank.

Improved Scorch was fixed so only successful scorches work (previously if a scorch resisted it still applied the debuff) and arcane blast's debuff is now 200% instead of 300%. Not sure how its applied (meaning is the last one 9%*400%, or is it (9%*200%)*200% which would still be devastating).
Right now, depending on gear, I might go for either deep frost for frost damage, or main arcane with 22 frost for frost damage (as arcane damage talents affect all schools of magic in the high tier part of the tree) for raiding. Deep frost will have a much more interesting spell rotation (with deep freeze and ice lance), while the arcane- frost hybrid will be a frostbolt rotation for sustained dps with devastating crits (spell power+ice shards).
Right now I favor the arcane-frost hybrid quite a bit for raiding, and deep frost for leveling, farming and PVP.
The hybrid is also very forgiving for mana (more spirit, more regeneration, lowered cost for frost spells) and provides 4% spell haste from arcane, icy veins and arcane power (along with cold snap) with a lot of room for additional spell haste thanks to 15% more intellect and a lot of mana regeneration with little mana cost for spells.
All the frostbolt empowering talents might be missed, but since there is no snare effect on bosses it's possible to use Glyph of Frostbolt that will not only make the spell 5% stronger (making all talents a bit better), but removes the spell damage coefficient penalty (spells with an untalented secondary effect gain 5% less spell power) which may add to quite a bit by level 80.
Any other mages really eager to try frost (until we finally have the mana to move back to arcane)? :D

The glass is half empty, I take it?
I'm not really sure that's an applicable phrase here. It was a full glass before, and now only half is left.
Aimed Shot (11 point talent)
Instant cast, 11% of base mana, 5-35(41) yd range, 6 sec cooldown
An aimed shot that increases ranged damage by 1570 and reduces healing done to that target by 50%. Lasts 10 sec.

Mortal Strike (31 point talent)
Instant, 30 Rage, 5 yd range, 6 sec cooldown
A vicious strike that deals weapon damage plus 380 and wounds the target, reducing the effectiveness of any healing by 50% for 10 sec.

I'm sensing a disparity somewhere here.

Unsure of the comics, in the WoW dialogue, he seems absolutely fucking enraged that Bolvar was killed by the Forsaken (more specifically, the Apothecaries). Jaina calms him down, and he agrees for a quest for relations that takes Alliance to Org that maps out plans to retake Undercity and kill Putress

After that, there's a quest to storm the Undercity as Alliance (I think on Horde side you're accompanied by Vol'jin) where it all goes down, and Wrynn snaps at what Thrall is allied with, and what has been done to Lorderon (to be fair, there are mangled human experiments and carcasses everywhere).

Wrynn is a hotheaded asshole, but Thrall has been really too lax on keeping his less trustworthy faction members in check... again.

Lore has been heavily hinting that Varimathras is doing things behind Sylvanas' back. Apparently it's going to be revealed these crooked Apocatharies are their own splinter group formed in secret by Varimath. The battle in UC is Sylvanas finally realizing they need to take down Varimathras. There is something in the spoilers on MMO Champion that reveal this a bit.

I guess this is the whole progression of the Apothecaries trying to create the new plague plot line. If they make them a splinter group it makes it easier to cut the out of the horde and make the forsaken even less evil, considering the fact that they were planing to pretty much kill everyone in the beginning once they figured out this whole plague thing.

Lore stuff

It's not Forsaken that betray anyone, but Royal Apothecary Society. They probably think they are the true Forsaken, that's why Putress says about "hour of forsaken"/ During events at Wrath gate there is uprising in Undercity by Varimathras in which Sylvanas is almost killed.
She knew nothing about this, all of it was plotted behind here back. Afaik, she didn't even know that new plague is ready. Most of all, she was betrayed, by RAS and Demons.
These events actually make core forsaken, the player controlled ones, less evil, since RAS has gone Rogue and essentially left Horde.

Although, Varian is simply an idiot. Even at wrathgate, horde and alliance fight together. The last thing Bolvar would probably want is another war (considering moments before his death he saw Young Saurfang's heroic sacrifice). But no, Varian knows better and wants to start another war!

Ok, the wrath gate opening was epic enough...I finally managed to do it a few nights ago...but holy SHIT is that cinematic the most epic thing I've seen in this game in a while.

The lore-fanatic in me is literally in ecstacy here. :D

Awesome points:
- Arthas whispering 'Sylvanas...' to himself when he hears Putress speak of the Forsaken.

- Arthas using Frostmourne to take Saurfang the Younger's soul like it's nothing. :lol

- Bolvar dying.... :*(

- The red queen showing up a minute too late. :(

Are we sure its Young Saurfang and not his dad?

::EDIT:: Oh wait, he was a brown orc. nevermind.

Hey Xabora,

Is that new mount interface (tab under the main character dialog) a part of the expansion or a mod you've installed? Have mounts now been taken out of the backpack?

Yes. This is old news. They changed this a few patches ago. We summon pets and mounts like spells and they no longer take up bag space.

Well he is the anti-Thrall
While being captive by humans, Thrall saw the good in that girl (crap forgot her name) and his feelings for humans change and he tried to be peaceful towards them. Varian on the other hand was captive by Orcs and they didnt show him any kindness, he saw cruelty at its finest so his feeling towards Orcs soured. So basically Varian and Thrall are the ying and yang, and yes its good to have an Ally/Horde war. :)

Aim Shot becoming instant cast is ridiculous. That shot hits ridiculously hard. Why don't we make Fireballs instant cast for mages too?
