Destiny's Raid, 'Vault of Glass' is now available to play. Hardest challenge yet.

That's just what raids are really. Top to bottom they're supposed to be pretty hardcore experiences. I would say that all that needs to happen is this level design needs to be transferred to strikes and story missions.

It would also be nice if us normals can play missions with six people.

wow, so some of the gear you find in the vault of glass is important to beat the vault of glass, like dealing extra damage to enemies inside the valut... heh

So no one is going to finish this this week, right? they are really stretching this thing out.

It's going to be a different raid after beating your head against a wall for 20 hours in order to get said gear. Then you can really start to appreciate it.

This. I could give two shits about the horrible PvP. I'll neer be able to find 5 other 30-something adults to pair with for the raid lol.

I just want more PvE. Bungie dropped multiple PvE balls.... they dropped them down a well alright.

I'll raid with you if I ever get some Legendary Hunter armor.

Not too sure how an FPS can be hard aside from bullet sponge enemies. That's artificial difficulty, however. Hopefully the raid lives up the hype.

I really hope that bungie didn't add these types of mechanics to the strikes/story because of time constraints and not because of a misguided philosophy, because if its the latter, this franchise has no hope.

Oh...he got me. I knew it wasn't on for the Beta, and I've only done Strikes with friends since then because of that. I thought they may have added that.
When you enter in the Strikes you can talk with guys via ingame voice chat... it started to work before the loading.

BTW you have voice chat with all the members of your squad... so the Strike just put your three in the same squad so the chat start to work.

I don't where the guys are getting that there is no voice chat lol it is automatically when the strike start to load.

In Vanilla WoW terms, the difficulty we're talking about should roughly be the same as the difficulty in putting together a 5-man group for Blackrock Depths, Lower Blackrock Spire, Scholomance, Stratholme or Dire Maul, the five main L60 dungeons; it's only one extra person, and if you're going for some of the tougher or lengthier options within those, I suspect the logistical challenges are much the same.

This is the thing that strikes me most: Despite this being termed a raid, we're not really talking Vanilla WoW *raid* logistical challenge, we're talking Vanilla WoW *dungeon* logistical challenge. That's a very different kettle of fish. And while matchmaking would absolutely solve that problem, I think it should also be solvable with the tools WoW had back then: communication with a friendly guild or chat in the hubs.

I think that is the biggest barrier to this content in Destiny terms at the moment. If you can't solve the logistical problems to making this happen with the communication tools available to you within the game environment, the communication tools available to you within the game environment are inadequate.

This. 1,000,000x This. Can't be said enough.

'kill the adds, cleanse, I don't care what the boss HP is'

Yeah this sounds like a raid all right.

Not sure I really understand the boss mechanics though. Sure is a lot of hiding behind pillars and going blind. :V

Nice man, id be down! I'm in the same boat right now. Cant find legendary gear to boost my light to 26+. And regarding the raid roster... i'm even part of the over30clan and i still cant see us "relatively-grownup" guys/gals finding time to get 6 at the same exact time... for a week to beat it. (I'm fairly certain you have to beat it a week from when you start it, no?)

The raid takes serious coordination and almost puzzle like elements. Stealth sections too!

I think I've seen more legitimate difficulty from the Call of Duty zombies maps, in terms of puzzles and strategy.

But Destiny's Raids certainly look more layered than the Strikes. And the bosses take more coordination, but not six players worth. There's no simultaneous firing from different angles at the boss, or having to be in different locations, that I've seen yet.

But I haven't played a Raid yet, there's still much more of the Raid's to be seen from the streamers.

Looks like communication is definitely needed.
It's relatively simple stuff, but it looks like it's critical to be able to say "I'm cursed and need to be cleansed", or "my revive timer is up, come and res me".

Partly this is because it's a first-person view with a limited pov. It's not like an MMO where you can scroll back and see everyone, or have their health bars on your hud.

I'm hoping Bungie respond to the critics by releasing a lower level version. It looks like the difference between Strikes and the Raid is quite large.
I want an interesting game with good mechanics and boss-phases, but I think it'll be a long time before I get to >L26.

not so much hard as it is time consuming-

Are you even watching the stream? The problem they're having isn't the time it's taking killing enemies, but figuring out the best tactic to avoid the immediate black out death, best post teleportation positioning, and dealing with the curses.

Could it be that it's a Friends only vs Public Fireteam setting. I thought with Public, people still had to actively join the team, even in a strike together. Maybe that now happens automatically during strikes if you are set to public?

I don't know.

I know when I enter in a Strike via matchmaking the others 2 guys get into my firestream and the voice chat start to work.

It was like that since day one.

If I add friends or random to my firestream my voice chat works too... so I guess all members in my fireteam works with voice chat automatically and the Strike just add randoms to my fireteam via matchmaking.

Oh, man. People complaining that raids aren't accessible.

Feels like 2004 all over again.

Lollllll I knowwww, I'm screaming. It's kind of funny.

Bungie seriously needs to have easier raids WITH matchmaking. I like how the raids seem to ask for more than just shooting and dodging so why would they lock out most of the Destiny players?

As they stand now Raids:

* Require a super high level
* Require 6 friends / clanmates playing at the same time
* Require too much of a time commitment (Takes hours to beat and needs to be completed within a week)

Congratulations Bungie you've just cut off like 90% of the player base.

If Destiny had more strikes and story missions that were as imaginative as the raid it would have done 100x better.

Like this lol. I feel like you could replace Bungie with Blizzard and Destiny with WoW and this post would read just fine.

Raids aren't supposed to be super accessible.

I don't disagree with your other points though. I would have loved to see buff/debuff mechanics, as well as more use of the item pickup like in the Sword of Crota mission.

If you invite someone or join someone's fireteam, there will be voice chat. If you get matched, then there's no voice chat. (IIRC)

I watched the stream and, my god, it looks frustrating as fuck. I don't think I would have the patience to partake in something like that. I mean, they keep doing the same thing over and over. I would be screaming at them to change it up. Does anyone actually think stuff like this is fun?

clearing challenging content as a group, and working for it, is very rewarding

More fun that running around like a mindless drone.

It's probably more likely that nobody uses a headset when they play. That PS4 pack-in is abysmal.

It's great to see them improve, they are finally able to consistently kill all the oracles the first time they are teleported and get out.

raids are generally frustrating as hell until you get the pattern down
after that its just work as usual

unless it is stupid cheap in some way with lame instant kills

There are other thing too... if you already in a Party Chat you need to set it to priorize ingame chat if you don't it won't work.

It shows a icon right on the name of the guys that have voicechat... Well it is like others MP games like Warframe.
