Pretty much my plan; no rush especially considering card prices here in Canada. Once Witcher 3 is out and some benchmarks are in, I'll make a decision then. It's really the only future game I'm interested in anyway followed by Arkham Knight.
 
About those promotions where buying a new cards gives you codes for some games, I know nVidia hasn't announced anything yet, but in case they do, do you think that early adopters will be able to take advantage of it too? I don't know how they handeld it previously.

I mean, in the past, if you bought a card before they announced the game partnership, were you able to get the games? Like I don't know, by sending nVidia a copy of the receipt maybe.

Thanks! All I did was shuffle them around and move the position of my ssd cuz cables getting in the way, and yeah, I'm golden. I'm unused to this kind of thing, the parts feel a lot less finnicky than I expected. I expected the components and cables to just instantly shatter and break if bent even 1%. Guess I was worried for nothing! Hard drive cage removed!

People buy Titan cards for compute though so I wouldn't expect the resale value to drop drastically, probably can still sell for more than a 980 on the used market.

I doubt it will work like that.

And I doubt they will even offer much, if anything. They aren't really in any need of adding incentives. They've got the most powerful card on the market and also the best value one. Pretty much sells itself.
 
Anyone have any info on Gigabyte GV-N980D5-4GD-B (980)

It seems to be in stock, but I cant find no info on gigabyte.com about it

BTW, could you give the link for that temps benchmark? I'd like to see the max temps too.
 
I got lucky and the clerk gave me a code for Borderlands. It belonged to a 780ti, but he said he doesn't expect it to be be picked up anymore. :lol
 
Damn, I can't believe the 7970 Ghz has been out for two years already.

As someone running two in Crossfire, but seeing no real performance gains in real life applications (only in benchmarks like 3D Mark), I'm really left struggling about what to grab from this new crop of cards.

It's left me gun shy on multiple GPU setups, but on the other hand, with a relatively narrow margin in performance but a big one in price, I'm torn on whether to grab 2x 970s or 1 980... and then maybe another in the future?

I also currently have a PCIe 3 x16/x8 motherboard, so not sure how much that will impact which I should pick.

Would love some advice or thoughts. I love to crank most settings to 11 and shoot for 1080p60, though I'm starting to dabble in down sampling. I also want as much VRAM as possible for Skyrim modding.

We cannot be sure about that. Ultra settings are a perennially moving target, there will always be some settings which very high-end single setups won't be able to run at 60fps even at 1080p.
It's up to the user to know what to ask from his hardware.

As Alexandros said PS4-like settings at 60fps should be achievable with ease in GPU bound situations.

It help a lot for temperatures, the blower is just way better for Sli than acx or windforce since you don't need hot air blowin directly from the gpu above to the gpu underneath it, the blower keep things cool for both cards. even Evga recommend it for sli over their own cooler.

Where would the GTX 570 be on this? I'm guessing near the 660.

Edit: Also when I get my 970 I'll be using a 1440x900 monitor for a month until I get a 1080p one. I can't wait to see what frames I get on my current monitor lol.
 
Getting a Samsung 850PRO 1TB drive and 8GB of additional RAM being delivered Monday.

What's the best way to transferring my OS drive without having to do a full OS reinstall?

Outside of setting ACHI mode and having it plugged into a Sata3 port, anything else to maximize performance?

Currently I have a Crucial M4 for my primary which will be used for backups.

Looking forward to trying out Rapid 2.0 and having everyone just on one SSD.

I ended up getting 2 evgx 970s. Figured that'd be better than just getting 1 980. I've never done SLI before so I kind of just want to see what that process is like. I hope I didn't make a mistake doing that.
 
Really disappointed in how EVGA's 970s seem to perform in terms of noise/temps. Thankfully, I can afford to wait a few months to see if they change the cooler or figure out some other way to lower the temps.
 
Can't wait till my 970 is delivered, even though I'm not sure what I'm going to play with it. Perhaps mess around with that downsampling feature since I'm on a 1080p monitor anyway.

And perhaps I should try to sell the 670 asap.

I'm sure we'll see a 980TI or TitanII on 28nm sometime next year for $1000. I think their plan is to just go to the 1000 series in early 2016 and skip over TSMC 20nm process into the 16nm node.
 
I have a Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 that I got for $350. Should I sell it and get a 970? Is it worth it, or wait for die shrink, or whatever AMD has in store next?

If you're happy with it, it's still a good card so I'd just keep it. If you want something cooler, quieter, more energy efficient, with a bit better performance and the nVidia ecosystem then go for it. :)
