Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

Not a fan of that instant turn speed. People trying this for the first time are not going to be getting the true experience of the original playing with that and analog controls.

There should have been a Trophy for finishing the game in classic control mode to show people what RE is all about.

Otherwise, I agree. It looks very un-RE-like and buggy, to the extent where the turning and 360 animations are completely gone, and could potentially destroy the game's challenge and unique tension.

I don't know if it's because i'm watching this from my phone, but there are crashed blacks everywhere it's almost unwatchable :S

It's not your phone, but it's not the game, either. It's just a particularly bad video.

Wow, the all-directional movement animation is super jank. It literally looks like frames are dropped in the animation whenever you go a different direction. Anyone else seeing what I mean? It's not smooth at all.

And i really don't like the new control scheme. Takes out every challenge because of missing animations. That way it's no problem to avoid every enemy. Resident Evils Controls were realistic because you couldn't turn around in a nanosecond. You moved like a human beeing. That way it was a lot harder to evade enemies. Especially Hunters... Now ...

I am going to play it with tank controls (not a problem with a Keyboard). This just ruins the game.

Where in the video is it?

every movement in the posted video. The change of direction is instant with no turning animations. Every animation except running forward and standing got cut. Now your stick just changes the direction in an instant. Looks very weird. Games like Uncharted have transitional animations.

Lack of transitional animations for the new controls does look sloppy, and yeah, being able to move about so freely seems like it would be missing the point/mitigate any potential challenge with this game.

That control scheme should not be the default. Gives a bad impression of the game and makes it easier then it should be.

I don't care what people say, I'm supporting this day one.

Of course. Me too. But it's good Capcom offers 4:3 and Classic Tank Controls. The way the game was meant to be played.

One question remains: What about different Resolutions and Anti-Aliasing in the PC Version?. 1080p is not going to last long. But it's Capcom ... looking at the Dead Rising 3 Port I sadly know the answer =(

Oh, now I am considerably less hyped.

Still, I am turning that new control scheme off it looks fucking terrible!

The locomotion in REmake was one of my favorite parts oddly enough.

The panning and scanning is still weird, but it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.

The new controls not having turning animations is kinda funny because I think REmake was the first RE game that tried to make turning slow and realistic, by having them shuffle their feet to turn instead of just rotating in place.

Also looks like the loading stutters are gone now. Very good.

The video looked hella dark, though. I wonder if it was deliberately to hide the iffy backgrounds.

Ok is it just me or did I see some camera panning in some parts of the game? Wasn't the game supposed to have only fixed camera angles?

That is how they are bypassing the issue of 4 : 3 display on modern 16 : 9 screens.

Some of the bigger rooms will now scroll when you're close to the edge to adjust the player view. The game still has the option to play it in the original 4 : 3 ratio if required.

A lot of those trophies sure will be easy to get with the new control scheme and the new easy difficulty. That demo appears to be on the easy difficulty as I noticed there was no zombies in the graveyard. Isn't there usually two? Also only one zombie (sans the sleeping crimson head) in the mirror room.

I know someone said it jokingly earlier in the topic, but if 'easiest' mode really does involve a free stroll through the mansion .. no zombies, hunters or any enemies at all ..

it would actually be kind of awesome. I would love to do that.

I started playing RE2 yesterday (hadn't played an old RE since playing REmake on Dolphin a couple of few years ago) and it took me a minute to adjust to the controls and it made me wish for a control option like this, but after I adjusted it felt natural again and honestly this is the way these games should be played.
That being said, it's easy for someone who played these games for hundreds of hours to adjust quickly, but for people who are only used to modern games it might be really off-putting and not worth the effort to adjust. There's no way around the fact that it's clunky and unintuitive, having options is always good but the animation feels half-assed with this control scheme.

True. It's awkward and hard to learn at first. The problem is, that the gameplay (enemy placement, difficulty etc.) has been designed around this controls and camera angles. With modern controls it's a lot easier to evade enemies or kill them with your knife. With a 3rd person perspective like in RE4 the game would be just too easy and bad. Imagine the Village in RE4 with 3 enemies that are slowly lurking around ... dat difficulty. Resident Evil was not just about scarce ammunition.

Classic Resident Evil is (sadly) a thing of the past. Changing it, means altering the whole experience... That's why I replay the PSX and GC Versions on the respective systems. It's nostalgia, modern reviewers would give it 2/10 - 5/10 without the Name Resident Evil and the History.

The problem is people are going to play this for the first time with the modern controls and have no clue about the tension and difficulty of the original. Looking at the video above you can simply blast by everything without much thought into planning and positioning. I expect many reviews from first timers about how it was boring and not challenging because of this.

The game was designed around the original controls. Changing the controls is fine, so long as they rebalance or redesign the game around them, which they aren't doing here.

I don't get what's the problem with the 16:9 method, it looks great in the video, why would someone change it to 4:3 with big ass black bars?

Because it's how it was originally intended. Personally I don't like the constantly scrolling up and down camera with every little movement the characters make.

Because even with the scrolling, some of the game's environment and details will never be in the frame.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but do we know if it is possible to skip the door animations? I hate them with passion.

Also, the lack of tank controls is a plus if you ask me. "Proper way to play RE" talk aside, I think it helps to increase the enjoyment while playing. Looking forward to this release.

Those new movement controls...

If I ever have to witness that shit again it might give me a fucking stroke.

Widescreen doesn't look too bad actually. But I'll have to do some testing of my own when I get the game and see what I prefer.

Game looks really fucking dark in the video. I really hope that isn't the case in the final release.

Another thing about the presentation I forgot to mention. As is obvious from the video, door animations are still there, but the people doing the presentation talked pretty positively about them and said stuff like "Door animations makes you excited about what's on the other side!"

In other words, it doesn't really seem they'll be skippable. At least, it's something I'd expect them to mention during this. So yeah, that might be one of the first things I'll try to "fix" when PC version is out.

I think they have a point, the door animation might be annoying when you are on your second-third playthrough but for a first time player it's really part of the experience and adds tension, maybe they should give an option to remove it after you beat it for the first time but for new players its a vital part of the experience and presentation of the game.
