Platinum getting money>Platinum does not get anything.
Bayonetta 2 getting made>Bayonetta 2 does not get made
One more good game for Wii U > One less game for Wii U
One amazing sequel> Bayonetta gets thrown in the trash
Its something.
That seems likely. I didn't mean to imply that the Bungies of the world are packs of cynical money grubbers. The state of the industry must be frustrating for talented people who get treated like cogs in big corporate revenue machines.I like you. I always had a feeling though that passionate people do go into the industry but they're forced by the EAs and Activisions to release there games before they're ready and shove them full of micro transactions and so on. Indies have also shown the possible quality of games without the restrictions of big publishers (except Nintendo, to an extent).
I'll clear my schedule! ;DCan we breed together? Sincere question. I love you. <3
Reading threads like this, it's like the worst thing Nintendo ever did was pay to bring Bayonetta back from the dead. Like, how dare they.

I'm not convinced it has to be that way. There must be a middle ground, some sort of business model that gives developers the independence they need to do their best work, and publishers reasonable assurance that their investments will pay off. The AAA slugging matches we see every year have got to taper off eventually. They stifle developer creativity and give players fewer choices of poorer quality at a higher cost
I dont think we know what would of happened if Nintendo didnt publish this, most likely to assume they would of been working on Rising 2 or another project.
For all we know they could of made a just as amazing DMC style game without sega/bayo license.
????
The initial threads were a lot worse. (NINTENDO STOLE OUR GAMEZ)
This one has a few passive aggressive "I told you so" sprinkled about but It seems like most gaffers has gotten over it (or got banned since)
On the surface it seems like it's gotten better. But before it was this angry rage, while now it's this self-satisfied kinda stuff, where people are just pleased as punch that the game isn't selling, like that benefits people somehow.

Everybody involved knew it'd turn out like this. Lower sales than Bayo on 360 even.
Nah, it's basically dead. It's a two year old console with pathetic sales, with a less than bright future.
*cough* citation needed
It really is the epitome of stupid pettiness.
Just look at the weekly hardware sales charts the last 6 months. Combine them and you'll see the Wii U came out ahead of the Xbox One. Difference though is that for most of that, Xbox One wasn't out in Japan.
That's one way of thinking.
Unfortunately, my head goes straight to "RIP in peace Bayonetta franchise"![]()
I just don't understand console allegiances.
Like I don't have an XBone and I don't have the money to buy one ATM but if it gets say Dragons Dogma 2...after the initial butthurt...I will understand that I just have to consider one in the future and that it is cool that a game I really want that isn't a major franchise is getting a sequel. And thus in the future, I'll buy an XBone when it is super cheap (and it will be super cheap).
so the butthurt over the exclusivity with this game was always silly to me specially since the Wii U practically has no choice but to come down in price soon.
but regardless there will be those on the edge that are happy that it bombs (which is silly as it probably means the death of the franchise and even less of a chance you get your dream port in the future. Hell may even mean the death of the genre as DMC and NG are both currently absent from Current Gen at the moment...) and that is even more sad to me,

Thanks, I guess it's all downhill from here! This post.
This is the one.
Congratulations, Monocle, this is the perfect post.
I have so much nostalgia for that generation. The Oblivion horse armor scandal marks the end of that period as I remember it, and the start of having to pay more for less. As much as I enjoyed the last generation, things were never the same. That middle ground existed, pre-last gen. Heck, it flourished.
It's not really dead at all, because Nintendo is fully supporting it still with new games. Just because it isn't selling incredibly well doesn't mean it is dead. That "dead" console is likely going to top 3 million sales for MK8 by the end of the holiday season.
It may never be a "runaway success", but it's not dead when it still has game sthat can move millions of software units.

Folks that continue to say that it doesn't matter how it sells because they'll enjoy it seem to be ignoring the whole point of funding a game. It isn't so 1 or 2 people enjoy it. It's so the company gets a ROI and as of now, there is no way of knowing if this will happen. Yes, it's fantastic that individuals on this forum are hyped for this game but the Wii U isn't going to be a financial success based on a tens of thousands of folks enjoying a game. It's going to need MILLIONS to enjoy the software and for the software to appeal enough to sell hardware. Mario Kart seems to be the only game up to this point that has accompished this goal.

Not surprised, if Nintendo works with Platinum again (which I hope they do and sooner rather than later) hopefully they can come up with a game that would actually sell. Probably one of Nintendo's existing IPs sadly since Nintendo and Platinum already tried an original, but Kamiya and many people have mentioned IPs that might fit.
I worded that poorly. I didn't mean Nintendo won't make anymore core games, I meant they won't make anymore core games that aren't sure fire hits purely within their own fanbase. Mario Galaxy might be very cute and visually appealing to children, but it's still a core game, it's still very challenging, and masterfully rich in content for those core players specifically. Bayonetta was a stunning game, my favorite of that style of game certainly, but it wasn't very successful, even amongst two successful consoles. If Nintendo can secure a Resident Evil, or a Metal Gear, etc, of course, but picking up sequels to games that already were met with market indifference, I really doubt it.Yeah, but they did it for Gamecube and Wii, so im sure Nintendo will have something to offer to core gamers, as always, what more they could do? whatever they do, is a risk anyways, lets wait and see.
at this point, unless Platinum makes a Zelda game I doubt anything they do will sell that great.
Metroid is Niche. Star Fox is an on rails shooter...like come on..that's not even niche it's lower. Captain Falcon Revengence sounds gdlk but probably wouldn't do shit. A Takamaru revival won't move units just like KI failed to.
Platinum makes niche games for niche audiences. Their games lack that mass appeal due to the often high difficultly, tons of gameplay systems, and that Platinum wackiness that if stripped out wouldn't appease that niche that they do serve to.
It beat out Windwaker HD in first week sales atleast. I dont think anyone expected it to blow up in sales but the real test will be whether or not it has longer legs than the original Bayo.
We don't know how many fans are out there since it's a WiiU exclusive, any game that isn't made by Nintendo would have a hard time selling to the WiiU audience specially a game like Bayonetta that aimed at a very different audience. It's really a shame that there aren't more Platinum fans out there, but it is what it is.
Thanks, I forgot about their tweet. I can't see Star Fox and Zelda coming out in 2015. SMTxFE? Yeah...I wouldn't be surprised if that got moved to 3DS or something. Anyway, back on topic, a way Nintendo could have marketed Bayo was to put her in Smash. I mean, it's pretty niche and not many non gamers know about Bayo so it would've given awareness. I didn't know about Fire Emblem before Smash (granted, the games only came out here after Melee) or Earthbound (cause, you know, PAL).
This is a game that we've developed internally up until now, but because we do want to bring this to market very soon, we are looking at some potential partner companies that we can team up with." However, Miyamoto also assured fans that he "will be directly in charge of the project," regardless of what other studio Nintendo partners with."
"Originally we weren't targeting E3 as the announcement time for Star Fox, but in developing it, we really came to like it. And I also wanted to motivate ourselves to complete the game as quickly as possible. So we decided to bring the game to E3 and announce it to give us that motivation."
"The game will have styles of missions that we call 'valley mode,' where you're flying forward through a straight, narrow valley area. Before, in the N64 levels, when we had these valley modes, it was difficult to play because the aiming was synched to the movement of the ship. So as you tried to aim, the ship was flying around within the valley. Now what we're able to do with the Wii U GamePad is, because the ship can move independent of your aiming, it makes it much more interesting and much more fun to play these valley modes."
"As far as the story goes, we're in an era where people have a limited amount of time and limited ability to play these long, story-based games, so there will be a story for the game, but you'll be able to choose."
I'll clear my schedule! ;D
Niche game on a dead system. No surprise here.
Even if Bayonetta 2 is indeed a 10/10 game, Japanese gamers have been trained to consider Famitsu reviews worthless, and so you can't expect them to follow review scores now.
Pack a neck brace and some tourniquets just in case. My BYOHYesssss henny. <3
Haven't reviewers had the complete game for like two months? I die a little inside whenever I think of them mashing PPPPP to clear every verse.Kind of pisses me off that in NA we have to wait till next month for this fully completed and localized game (probably because of some shitty Zelda Musou game) and japan is snubbing the shit out of this game.NA/EU will too but I just want to play it.
This thread is going places.
Horrible places.
