Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

As someone who just purchased and put together the Phanteks Enthoo Pro case with my Gigabyte 970 two days ago, I recommend it without reservation.

Excellent cable management facilitation, great stock fans, very roomy, easy to get set up, and sells at a delicious price point of $99.

It's a case that generally gets a ton of praise, and it's very well-deserved.

As far as the Gigabyte 970's size goes, it is fairly lengthy. However, it did fit comfortably enough into my old Coolermaster CM 690 case w/ the HDD cages, which has a card size limit of 304mm.

I have the same case and I couldn't agree more! Perfect cable management for very little effort put into it.

Shit I was hoping to get the Gigabyte 970 but it seems like it won't fit in my case given the length. I have a Fractal R3, anyone know if it will fit?

Edit: shit...found a picture on reddit, he said it's a very tight fit... Could that damage the card?

Are there any UK stockists of the Asus GTX 970 yet? Everywhere is stuck on pre-order status awaiting stock. All the other brands seem to be plentiful though.

I have the same setup. Yes a bit of a squeeze but has been fine since I installed it.

Pretty disappointed that it took Newegg more than a day to get my MSI 970 out the door and onto a truck, it really should've shipped the day I placed my order. Maybe it's their way of incentivising people to pay for them to "rush" their orders, which is something that's never sat right with me. Fortunately I decided to pay extra for two day shipping to ensure I'd get it before the weekend. If I hadn't coughed up that extra $15 I wouldn't have even gotten my package until next week, which is ridiculous since I ordered early on a Tuesday.

That said, this is the kind of upgrade I'm looking at, so it's hard to be sour.

I'm using MSI Afterburner. How do I get it to show me my overall clock? It only tells me how much I've boosted. I want to know if I can get my card to 1500.

This is relevant to my interests. I'm not a fan of the new system.

I applied a quick 150 Mhz core overclock last night that proved to be stable. I'll mess with voltages tonight.

Get GPU-Z.

It will show the normal clock, boost clock and then you can check the max boost under the sensor tab by changing it to show the highest recorded value.

Thanks for sharing?

I didn't realize there aren't any AF settings in the menus, either, so thanks for reminding me to force it globally in Inspector.

I didn't want to criticizes your info by any means. Sorry for that. It was more of a comment about how many resources the game needs and how ugly it looks in comparison to that.

So I found some more instances of intense coil whine on my MSI 970, even worse than before and not limited to my previous examples, so I decided to exchange it.

As soon as I began overclocking mine I started noticing it too. Haven't won the silicon lottery either; 1450 MHz Boost clock is about as far as it goes. I don't really mind both of those things though; the former is barerly audible since the case is under my desk anyway and the latter already gives overkill performance since I only game at 1080p anyway. I'm already glad I'm able to lock pretty much every game to 60FPS, everything else is a bonus. :P

Seems like the Gigabyte model is easily the best 970 out there at the moment. Shame it's just so goddamn long and doesn't have the passive cooling mode cards like ASUS and MSI have.

So AMD just announced some FirePro cards in India.. I hope that isn't the only announcement for today, or I'm definitely getting a 970.

Ok, so I boosted the clock by 225 (ran Uniengine Valley and RE6 Benchmark and played a few games, all good) and according to GPU-Z my GPU clock is 1339 and my boost is 1478. Keep in mind that is with no changes to voltage or fan profiles.

Noob question = is it worth having dual GPU? I thinking about 2 970's should I do it?

If you want to game at high resolutions it can be worth the price and it's a better deal than buying a single 980. If you just game at 1080p though I would get one and maybe another next year if you need it for newer games or VR.

Why are people saying I get X degrees in Y game?
You get X degrees when your GPU is at full load. The game isn't really relevant. 99% load is 99% load regardless of which game it is.

Depends on the res. of your monitor and what games you play.

Sli does have some problems since you have to wait on drivers that have custom profiles for SLI setups, but I never really had trouble with games when I had dual cards.

Hey guys, a question: in Switzerland I have hard time finding a decent Gigabyte 970 card, but can order ASUS Strix 970 pretty much straightaway.

Is there a consensus on which card is better and is it worth waiting for Gigabyte which seems to be clocked higher and have better cooling system?

its a shitty picture but you get the idea. i knew the card was big but man they arent kidding. thankfully my case is the size of a small cavern and so size isnt an issue

Isn't it actually the MSI that's slightly (very slightly) faster than the other cards?

I just took delivery of an ASUS variant 970 yesterday and it's beautifully built and whisper quiet. Quite pleased with it.

What is your guys expectation on the MSI card being easily Available by Tuesday? Seems like it's constantly sold out and I'm buying my card on Tuesday, and that's the one I really want. :/
