well, both are winbutton guns in the Crucible. it'll be personal preference.last night i finally got a blue shingen-e. curious if it will replace my now go-to blue galahad-e
Last night atzetango, Narmer212 and I managed to beat the weekly nightfall strike. I thought I'd share some of our strategies here if anyone's interested.
Our team consisted of:
- Level 27 Warlock (Sunsinger self-res)
- Level 27 Titan (Defender)
- Level 26 Hunter (Bladedancer, cloak)
Big props to atzetango for doing the legwork prior to the strike and having a good understanding of the enemy spawns. It's really important that you hit up the tower and stock up on secondary/heavy ammo packs as the ammo drops in Nightfall are pretty scare when you really need them.
The early parts of the strike are really the most difficult. It's good to have a solar fusion rifle for the Shank's shields and an Arc fusion rifle/heavy for the Captains shields, these will give you the most trouble early on. Halfway through the level you'll run into Minotaurs that have void shields, so it's important to switch to your void heavy to start collecting ammo for that (or use stim packs).
Basically, we got to the area before the final boss where you are supposed to jump down into the cavern and fight. Rather than jumping we stayed up at the top of the cave and shot the boss from above. Every 30 seconds or so a big fat minotaur would spawn at the end of the cave, so we'd have a guy back there to callout the spawn at which point the two guys dpsing the boss would kite the minotaur around in the cave until he was dead.
We probably had to kill 7 or 8 minotaurs before we finished the nexus off. It got pretty intense without void damage, because dropping his shield is a pain. Try not to be too far away from the minotaur or he will fire the missiles. When you're close he will stop firing and try to teleport towards you, at which point you can thrust/run around him when he is mid-teleport.
One strategy that I want to explore further is having someone aggro the minotaur and drag him way back into the entrance of the strike (just before you go out of the zone). We got him there once and he seemed pretty confused, so I'm wondering if the game would stop spawning minotaurs while he was there, leaving two guys to drop the boss easily from above.
We had one guy drag the Minotaur back into the cliff ledge area where all the vex spawn and "play" with him. Jump over his head, run and slide back and forth, etc.
The other two of us just pounded on the boss until he was dead. Pretty quickly.

can I subscribe to your newsletterThat's true, but if you want an exotic, you can buy one from Xur. Everything you want in this game you can just buy. I don't get the RNG complaints because Diablo is far worse. I played 200+ hours of Diablo and you have 0 control over advancement. Everything comes from drops. If you need a legendary helmet, tough luck. Just play and hope one drops. One of these essential items for end-game builds is a Stone of Jordan ring. I got one after 185 hours. My friends had 3 by then. In Destiny you can just buy what you need. You can buy from like 5 different vendors. You can buy an exotics from Xur. The legendary engram drops suck. I get it. I had 2 last night that were blue myself. If that was the only way to get loot I'd be pissed as hell. But it's not. It's just crazy-making to see a whole page of thread title jokes boiling this entire game down to bad RNG.
reading this i can only surmise you are unacquainted with fusion rifles7) Dear everyone who makes tactical shooters: no one likes enemies that bum rush you in a swarm. Ever. I don't like those little guys in Gears. I don't like Flood. I don't like Thrall.
So, I hit level 15 last night and am well on my way to level 16.
Obviously none of these are new thoughts:
1) The story seems to want to make every single missions HUGE revelatory information at the end. With Ghost saying something about how this is an array beacon that's blah blah blah with zero impact. Early in the game I was actually pretty pumped that I was doing something important, but now I figured out I'm doing nothing and being told everything is critical.
2) I almost never run into other players on the moon or Venus. Probably the Loot Cave's fault.
3) The leveling system became more of a grind around level 10, which was nice because before that I was just leveling by accident. Weapon choice and equipment is starting to matter more. So that's nice, gun play is more important to actually go for critical hits so the tactical shooter is getting better.
4) Loot drops are super frustrating already and I'm sure will get worse. Win match, get nothing. Watch level 26 with .25 K/D ratio get something really good.
5) The number of things to grind is insane. I have to level with everyone all the time. Seems that focusing on bounties is critical to advancement.. which is nice because it gives me something to focus on and forces me to play different.
6) Strikes with randoms works reasonably well so far. Haven't done a strike beyond the easiest level, so I'm sure it's going to be an issue later.
7) Dear everyone who makes tactical shooters: no one likes enemies that bum rush you in a swarm. Ever. I don't like those little guys in Gears. I don't like Flood. I don't like Thrall.
Awesome, so no more will spawn when he's still alive? Sometimes depending on how you pull him back into the entrance you can confuse him so much he will just pace back and forth in a small area.

I had much more trouble with restoration than I did with Oryx or the gate lord missions. The lack of space to move around in that fight murders me.thanks! and earth is still in rotation, or did bungie hot patch it out?

I don't think people hate Destiny RNG cause if they did they just would not play. It's just part of the fun social experience of getting greifed by a common enemy and then coming back here to rip on it.That's true, but if you want an exotic, you can buy one from Xur. Thats correct. Only one of him at a time will spawn.
I'm finally Level 28!

This is critical for upgrading your preferred Legendaries and Exotics which take orders of magnitude more XP than the weapons you'd been using up to this point. hmm *writes down*And just in case you didnt know, before you turn in bounties, equip everything that you want to get upgraded, when you turn in bounties everything thats equipped gets a huge XP boost.
This artificial restriction that is sooo deeply constraining to so many people has not stopped me from reaching level 28 in 16 days, and I did not play as hardcore as I could have (despite playing a fuckton).I could understand that point of view.
If Destiny didn't artificially restrict your ability to accrue wealth and rep.
You would think in the future they would have space trousers capable of holding more than 100 bucks at a time and that, given that you are embroiled in a war for the very salvation of mankind against not one, not 2, but FOUR enemies that outnumber you a million to one, they wouldn't need 15 odd hours to find you something important to do.
I'm finally Level 28!

can I buy raid gear from Xur tho
Theyre random. Just like the selection. I got both the sniper rifle and a chest piece from Earth one time, and just a helmet the next time. The Queen bounties seem to change every time you reloaded the mission. It doesn't offer a resume.
First time I went to Venus got to the boss and got server disconnected which really fucking annoyed me. When I selected to do the mission again it took me to Mars instead but the enemies there were ridiculous while trying to complete it solo.
So I quit and went to orbit and the third time I went to Earth. I completed this one since its really quick and easy.
Do we know if the rewards differ from planets?

I'm at a loss, honestly. If the game were less restrictive, there were more guaranteed legendary drops, there were much higher engram decrypt rates, you could accrue more marks within a week, or any combination of the above, I'd be level 29 completely maxed grinding for raid gear already instead of a few days from now. Is that really that much better? It's not like no one has been able to get there by now and I'm at the cutting edge. Plenty have. So where am I going wrong? What would have been the appropriate timeframe to hit 29 out from launch?
I want everything you have.
Is that the Dark Orbit armor?
We did this strat... and I promise you, it works SO much better than killing him every 30 sec or so which distracts you from the boss. One strategy that I want to explore further is having someone aggro the minotaur and drag him way back into the entrance of the strike (just before you go out of the zone). Weapon attack values and armor defense are off. Weapon properties (how many rounds in the mag, how fast it reloads, rate of fire) are all in play. Class abilities are also in effect, and some of these can affect survivability (this is probably what you've run into). So damage is normalized, and a brand new player can absolutely be competitive, but veteran players definitely have an advantage no question.I just want to make sure that I am understanding correctly. I played a few games of crucible last night. Definitely can tell I'm a noob at this. Are the weapons and armor all turned off or is someone ranked higher than you always going to have the advantage? It just feels sometimes that some players are more bullet sponges than others.
Both at once.Did you get the sniper rifle and the chest both at once or were these two separate mission runs?
We did this strat... and I promise you, it works SO much better than killing him every 30 sec or so which distracts you from the boss.
We had two guys shooting the Nexus constantly, while I would stand on the minotaur spawn and wait for him. When he spawned, I would run out of the cave (opposite direction from the Nexus) and pop him with a couple rounds to get his attention. I would sprint all the way back to the other cave (the entrance before you reach all the goblin spawns), and he would chase me. Make sure you get his attention and he chases you... he's stubborn and will try to ignore you. Once he gets close enough, he won't shoot at you but instead will try to *blink* towards you to melee. Wait til he gets close, then jump (jetpack/glide/whatever) over him and sprint back to the cave where your other 2 friends are still working on the boss, uninterrupted. When you make it to the cave, hide around the corner so he can't see you and he'll stop charging and will instead sloooooooowly walk back to the last place he saw you. When he gets there, start over.
It's not fool proof and occasionally you'll get a bad jump or jetpack into a rock or something and he'll get a lucky shot on you, but then your other two friends can take him down like they would've had to do anyways.
Using this method you may have to kill him twice or 3 times at the most. Get good at it and you can distract him the whole time and never have to kill him. At one point, I was just toying with him and jumping over his head from one side to the other, never sprinting away from him. Over and over... and wouldn't shoot at me b/c I was so close. Meanwhile the other guys are putting in WORK on the boss.
It's so much better than stopping to kill him every 30 sec or so.

I got him to the other cave entrance probably 10-15 times and it never happened. I suppose you just cut your run short of the cave instead. Rinse and repeat.Be careful doing this, because if you kite the minotaur back too far away from the cave, he'll actually teleport back to that edge where you shoot Nexus. I'm guessing Bungie put it in a s a precaution to prevent players from leading the minotaur too far away.
Amazing advice, thanks! We did this strat... and I promise you, it works SO much better than killing him every 30 sec or so which distracts you from the boss.

Now that I've reached Vanguard Rank 3 should I focus on a Faction?
If you're about where I expect you are in progression, the amount of legendariies/exotics you'll have available to you even without the Queen's Wrath missions is about to skyrocket.7hrs I assume. The average length of a SP game these days.
I love the slow progression in this game.
36hrs in and I have only one equip-able legendary so far.
Material gathering is the grindiest part of the game to be sure. Combining it with bounties, beacon missions, glimmer farming (pop a consumable), and, ideally, friends in your fireteam make it so much better. The hard part of levelling past LV 26-27 is farming for materials, in my opinion. That's so boring and the routes posted on Youtube tend not to work for me.
It's up to you! Do you want faction stuff? The Vanguard will keep sending you goodies for ranking up if you stick with them..Now that I've reached Vanguard Rank 3 should I focus on a Faction?
