It kept the guy he was referring to occupied for over 3 and a half days. I usually get 15 to 20 hours out of most games. Content seems just fine if not more than the average game. Titanfall at release had a pathetically small amount of content. Destiny has plenty of content with more coming.

Titanfall also didn't try to be a MMO.

There are no benefits for people racing up in levels and advancement to flaunt their e-peens. It becomes more difficult, it's almost like they want to make you work for stuff! Fully leveled legendary gear becomes more rare because of this hot fix, that ain't bad for a game 2 weeks out. They took away things they, as the developers of the game, considered exploits. Today is their first step (and in all probability the only one they were able to implement immediately) in addressing the concerns raised by the community. I guess many see this as "bad". If this is bad then, way to go Bungie! Keep up the shitty work!

This part has nothing to do with the quote above but I also really don't get the posts about people spending literally days of time playing, grinding and shooting into caves and then saying they are tired of it or burned out on it. Duh, no shit? Any activity no matter how pleasurable becomes a grind after a while, don't believe me? Ask a porn star.

Give me a break. The point of the game is progression. People want to feel that their time is worthwhile and is actually making a difference. The reason the cave existed in the first place is because people did not feel the core content of the game is worth it at higher levels (because most of the time it isn't). So instead they used the cave.

The addition of "new" content that becomes literally worthless to anyone with a legendary helm and chest piece is hilariously idiotic. There's no way to defend the decision to remove shards (which, btw, is only available for a limited time and in limited numbers per day).

The amount of time since the game has come out has nothing to do with the amount of progression people make. The amount of CONTENT does. Bungie does not have enough content in the game to warrant a slow grind to the higher levels. Regardless of whether people are grinding away shooting into a cave, or grinding away shooting at a boss for the 10th time, it's still a grind and that's what wears people out. Unless of course you're saying people should just play less of it so they don't get burnt out? In which case, congratulations Bungie, I have the feeling you've succeeded with this hotfix.

Vanguard rep/marks seems so easy to get. I'm already rank 4.

I truly loathe going into the crucible to try and get rank 2, but I have 150ish marks waiting to be spent.

why not let people have their cave? it was oddly the only social thing to do in the game, the only place where I felt like I was part of something -- other people are around, you're doing stuff, sometimes the world event happens and you deal with it together. this is a game where there's nothing to do socially in the world with anyone else, and this cave was the one thing to do.

How unbelievably disappointing, Bungie. I can't believe how much I've trusted you as a developer while watching you strangle this game to death. I'm not even mad about the cave, but the ascendant materials from the Queen? Throw us a fucking bone.

It certainly shows how much those people who left Bungie mattered.

I've said it before, but Bungie doesn't respect our time at all with Destiny. I still love the game, but realize it.

Raaaaaaaaaid time tonight b o y s.

DRR get at me.

What time, son?

FR fires once.

Hits you.

You die.

That to me is dying to one hit aka OHK.

At ranges of CQB to long mid aka shotty to AR range.

Dude you have a campaign against the fusion rifle, lol. I'd rather face a team of FR than shotgun which is just run and shoot. Fusion rifle requires more spacing and knowledge of upcoming engagement. It's not an impulse based weapon like the shotgun.

It's actually kinda sad

I hated myself for roughly 3 days of that playtime though. Personal lowpoints, spending hours shooting an endless stream of hive on the moon, vex and fallen on venus, vex on venus before jumping off a cliff etc. Running the same 5 lvl 24 strikes 50 times, doing the same goddamn headshot fallen bounty 30 times. 15 to 20 hours is realistically all I got out of destiny too, the rest was me banging my head against the wall in frustration. Oh and some running around opening chests. I had fun in the crucible though when I wasn't frustrated by my limited loadout or some asinine bounty.

How does COD deal with this issue? people spend a ungodly amounts of hours playing that game.

COD either has the best multiplayer on the face of the planet or a fan base that loves what they love and will play it with dogged perseverance regardless of it's obvious to most shortcomings. I'll let you decide which.

So what is everyone now doing to keep themselves constantly playing? I'm slowly losing interest in the game. Don't have much incentives to do anything in this game since the RNG factor is a mess. Only thing I have in mind is raid but even that is something you can only play once a week for loot.

Level 3 vanguard/crucible is all I want right now. Also looking forward to the raid.

Easy how? How long do you think it took you to reach that?

Weekly night fall = 500 rep
Weekly coin mission on hardest difficulty = 499 rep (with exp buff from nightfall)
Public event farming = rep and marks while grinding ascendant material

There really isn't much left beyond that to gain the levels quickly. Usually get some rep while doing bounties since I take some patrol missions while I'm at it.

4 queen wrath missions done, 4 chest pieces... Whats a warlock gotta do for some head loven?

For the love of God 5 Queen Wrath Mission and 5 fucking robes for my warlock! My brother has gotten 3 helmets and 2 chest plate. WTF!!!

Make sure you patch it so they are totally worthless...

Make that 6 all the same fucking chest piece! My brother has gotten 3/3 Really fuck this game.

You mean if this were any other shooter you would've already stopped playing?

I'm not fussed about nerfing the loot cave but this

But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn’t our dream for how Destiny is played

Makes me fucking angry.

It isn't THEIR dream so who gives a shit about the players who actually do like it as part of their game? They are happy to patch a nerf into the game without actually doing anything to address why people were doing the farm in the first place.

Chuck a line in there about how it breaks their system or something, not that you are humbled people went to the effort of trying to get more enjoyment out of your game so it's time to nerf it.

I wonder if this will also lower engram drop rates for times when you run into mobs of enemies, unless they are coding it specifically for that one cave (in which case why the hell is there a future promise of higher drop rates in "competing activities" rather than doing it at the same time).

I was hoping for more positive improvements by Bungie, everything so far has been nerfs. Which is incredibly disapointing.

COD has a ton more variety than what you see in Destiny. You can literally never know what you might see in a match. A swarm of dogs might come out, a helicopter fucks you up, or some guy placing a turret somewhere. The killstreaks work great as a reward system and also mixing up matches so they don't feel stale. Also the XP system takes a shitload longer to cap out.

And I agree with people that say the variety of weapons, armor, etc. is too limited. They didn't put enough in the game and yet I fear that we will not see any more until the expansions come out. And who knows how much they will add. Could be a lot, but it also could be a small amount. I'm still enjoying the game but it seems like if they had the time to make fixes so quickly, why haven't they addressed some of the bigger issues already? Like rewards for strikes, matchmaking for weekly strikes, the list goes on.

Yeah, was thinking about this at work today. You see a lot of people talking about how there's no/minimal RNG because you can just buy legendary armor at the faction vendors. Then I realized no one ever gets more specific than that, because it doesn't really matter, outside of the two random stats (Intellect/Disc/Strength?) the light and armor levels are identical on all of them from anyone. They have different modifiers like carry more x ammo and whatnot, but that's generally not an enormous deal. Exotic pieces do a better job with that. There's no real great variance in any of the legendary gear. It's been mentioned a ton in these threads, but as a comparison in Diablo 3 there's a ton of legendaries and they drop way more often, but you're also usually looking for specific rolls on them. As a result you often wind up spending probably longer looking for what you want than a Legendary in Destiny, BUT you feel like you're making progress and being rewarded because every time you get one it could be the one! In general there's an enormous lack of variety in the loot, and I feel that attaching your level to gear (Light) is interesting it hasn't really panned out. It's part of why you see people farming the cave for loot as opposed to just playing the game "normally".

I'm also just still completely fucking baffled that they continue to put out not only constant repeats on bounties, but bounties that are literally incompletable. And they keep doing it. At this point it just comes off as hilariously incompetent. On a related note the Crucible bounties that aren't the general ones for x # of kills or complete x # of games in this mode suffer from the same problem the Reach daily challenges did that I hated which is they make people play a specific and usually non-effective or less effective way. Half of my team will be neutered because bad kids who can't snipe to save their lives are going 0 and 10 trying to get sniper headshots. It's a real fine line because you obviously don't want to exclude people who like or mostly play Crucible from having Bounties in that mode, but I feel like asking for 10 Fusion Rifle sprees is asking for shitty teammates. And that's before you get into people who are just AFKing for rewards since right now the top performers don't even have a better chance than the lowest performers for rewards.

But the dev notes today are pretty disappointing. They sound good until you realize we have no solid ETA on them (we hope by the end of the year is a broad window as well as gives them an out) and a lot of it should have been super obvious. Stuff like nerfing the cave was pretty expected, but things like removing getting shards from dismantling the Queen items speaks to they seemingly have no idea how to balance anything since we just went from up to 6 guaranteed legendaries for shards a day to none in the span of a few days. There's no vision here, or if there is it's wildly out of wack with the expectations the playerbase clearly has. And it's also staggering how they haven't fixed what are seemingly easy things to address like impossible bounties, the incredibly low rep rewards for doing Strikes, etc.

Anyway because I'm OCD and like grinding in games (I 100%'d every Challenge in Borderlands 2 before they introduced the reset option, etc) and the core combat is good and the world is super interesting to me I'll keep playing for right now since I've set some mini-goals for myself like hitting rank 3 in all of the factions etc. At this point more than anything I would absolutely love some sort of insider story on what on earth happened with this game over it's development. I really feels like outside of the world-building the game itself was built in 12-18 months. It's bizarre. Bungie was the absolute last developer in the world that I gave a free pass to on their games for day one without being super skeptical or waiting for reviews; never again. I hate how jaded I am now.

Edit: Welp, looks like today was the final straw for most of my friends who are on PS4 (I'm still slumming it on 360 sadly). None of them were doing the cave farming FWIW. This is a pretty good post that I think is a good general summation:

Patching out the loot cave is pretty much whatever. Reducing drops upon death (just to combat a small minority of gamers who farm restricted respawn areas) is seriously overboard. Patching out the only reason to do the current even more than twice just makes no sense.

I just find it absurd that without a heavy dose of luck, the average adult gamer (the ones with jobs and families, many of whom have at this point been supporting Bungie for 10+ years) won't even be able to get their light level up high enough to even qualify for the raid content that Bungie seems to be the most proud of. By the time a lot of people are able to get their vanguard rep high enough, and farm enough vanguard marks to outfit their guy with enough bought purple stuff to hit 26, they will have moved on to another game. Similarly, by the time Bungie gets around to fixing loot in general, we will all have moved on to the next game.

You see this is why I cant have nice things. I didnt even know that the weekly night fall netted me 500 rep, i really thought i was stuck to doing just bounties and public events. BUT isnt the Nightfall mission level 24? I am barely 24. If i can play it and get through it that may be the fuel i need to keep on going. thank you.
