welp, I'm just level 21 with not a single legendary/exotic piece of equipment, what's the best way to farm them? I have to buy them or I can try my luck somewhere?
I wanted to get some strange coins for the gear that Xur has but doing heroic strikes with my current equip will be hard, I think. also no matchamking, lol.

you said popular, not successful. how well the game succeeds is obviously something we won't know for a while, although immediate sales seem to be pretty good. that said, saying that its unpopular is just wrong considering that we're on the 5th OT for the game and things like the loot cave have been receiving massive amounts of attention across the internet. it's clearly pretty popular, whether it be for the right or wrong reasons

It depends on your playstyle. Try both and you'll have a good idea of which class is better for you.
Public events, weekly strike rewards, breaking down legendary weapons or armor, crucible rewards. Sometimes chests.

I had trouble with this also but I finally got it, helps a lot if you are either Warlock or Titan and one of your subclasses uses void damage. Basicaly just ran around rumble with a void shotgun as a Defender Titan. You only need to maintain a .75 k/d to stay in the green, but obviously doing better makes it go faster. Took me about 15 games i think. Having the void sticky grenade really helped because it usually ensures at least a 1 for 1. Play defensively and avoid 3 death streaks and don't be afraid to leave games if a majority of the players are a lot better than you and it doesn't look like you can maintain the .75 k/d
I finally got a legendary item from an engram. Its a fusion rifle, but im happy just to get something.
I ended up buying the exotic chest for titan, Even though I had just fully upgraded My exotic helmet. But extra ammo for auto rifles and specials plus quicker revive seemed to good to pass. Besides I hate the look of the helmet

lolno. some things are broken, not 'everything'. and that's bungie's fault for not being able to balance the pvp.
doesn't matter, point is they got oneshotted from that distance and charge time is super low.
That's what everyone says, problem is that I'm a Hunter. In general though I'm getting tired of them trying to force PvP stuff on you in a game where I only care about the PvE. It's easy enough to ignore pain in the ass Crucible bounties if you don't want to do them (fusion rifle/shotgun sprees etc), but then you get saddled with teammates who are performing very sub-optimally because they're trying to get them so that sucks shit. And in the case of the exotic bounties I think they all force you do to do PvP, although this is the only particularly hard/annoying one. And I don't like that they're going to nerf Auto Rifles and Shotguns since I don't give a shit about how it's balanced for PvP, but you're punishing me in PvE for it. They need to have this shit separated.

My K/D ratio went way, way up doing that bounty, void shotguns are insane in Control

the charge time is low but i've got rare fusion rifles that can one shot from that distance reliably
destiny gives people so many fucking options but no - face check flaming hallways illuminated by the dead ghosts of your allies is plan A for too many people
any number of weapons could've styled on them. you want to be mad? check how the invective shoots faster than most scout rifles and has universal remote range

Level 26 here and haven't seen an exotic yet. I've only seen 3 legendaries total.

Level 26 myself. Only gotten 2 Legendaries, both from blue engrams, though I've gotten like 5 or 6 legendary engrams. I had to buy my exotic from Xur.
