Weely strikes, and Nightfall need to have open and closed matchmaking.. Raids need matchmaking period.. We're already playing with strangers.
Raids require two things that matchmaking can't provide:
1. Commited players
2. Mics
The second will be fixed in a future patch as announced for all mm activities, but the first never will
In the future, when raiders have moved on to new raid content and the average player has levelled to a point where the VoG becomes a lot easier, then it would make sense to consider mm.
Right now, it requires too much commitment for your average mm user. I see too many people bail on easy strikes to know how featuring the mm experience would be.
If you don't have the commitment to add people in game and have conversations to arrange raid groups, then how can you be expected to try and try again at content that can potentially take many hours for new groups?
People say "give it to us anyway, if we use it it won't hurt you". It actually might, as if everyone could access the content on a whim they would probably flood the forums calling for difficulty nerfs.
Also, we have a large pool of players actively looking for organised and committed groups, add mm and you would reduce that pool considerably.
Mm is fun for stuff that doesn't require team work.
What would actually be great would be a way to flag yourself in game as "looking for raid group", or add yourself to an in game board advertising that fact.
Paring with strangers this way is entirely different to just clicking a mm on a whim as it requires effort and time, both of which are required for the actual raid content.
If you can't handle that, how do you expect to handle the raid?

Mm for NF and daily heroic would be fine imo, they're mostly gear checks and don't require any real advanced tactics. However, I'd prefer that they wait for mic support to so this as NF especially does require some communication in some of the more hectic encounters.
