I seriously don't understand why people are still trying to defend AGAINST raid MM. WoW does it, and arguably WoW raids are much more difficult and require just as much, if not more, time.

All Bungie would have to do is either introduce a lower raid difficulty tier and let people get introduced to the mechanics, then once they have one Atheon clear at that difficulty tier, unlock the next raid difficulty tier. They could also only allow MM at level 27+ to ensure MM players are geared enough.

There is no defense for not having complete MM in a game with so little content right now. Let people enjoy the game when they can while they can.
That's a completely different story. You're talking about introducing multiple difficulty tiers with a progressive matchmaking system to queue players only for their "most difficult proven beatable" version of the raid.

Depending on how easy you make the first difficulty tier (should it be completable without voice chat? with only 4 people?) you run the risk of either failing to adequate prepare players for "the real thing" if you err on the easy end, or the exact same issues that would crop up with the current raid if you err on the hard end.

This is an unnecessarily complex solution that involves considerably more programming effort than simply including an in-game LFG listing board with the ability to leave notes. Your "all Bungie would have to do" is equivalent to "create multiple versions of the games toughest content each catering to a different skill/coordination level than originally intended." Not a day's work.

The idea that lacking matchmaking simply "not allowing people to enjoy the game" should be laughable to anyone who has tried the raid. 6 matchmade new players with no coordination or even voice chat would have an absolute disaster of a time and probably never want to try again. It's not a magic fix.

I agree with those here saying there should at least be OPTIONAL matchmaking for Weekly Heroics, Daily Story Heroics, and the Nightfall.

If people are solo'ing these events now then there isn't much of an argument against optional matchmaking. If they can detect if a mic is activated, or if they require that you be at the minimum level or higher of the activity in order to submit to matchmaking that would help too. I wouldn't want to match up in a Nightfall with a random Level 25 player.

I can't speak for the raid though as I have yet to try it.

You actually can. If you are crouched behind cover just press the ADS trigger and it will pop the scope up and over the cover. If you let go of LT/L2 your character will go back to the crouched state behind cover.
Whoa really I never knew this

looks like the Queens Weapons get a damage boost once you hit Rank3.

You can get 3 shards a day from just doing the daily and a public event, so getting them in a weekly raid is kind of a downer. I am swimming in shards.

must be nice. But I get what you're saying - I'm just now realizing how to game that system. Doing the daily on 28 today will get me two shards (hopefully) and I'll upgrade to a 28.

I don't see anything wrong with it, because clearly Bungie designed these spots to be used. Running around like a chicken with its head cut off and shooting rockets might be more exciting but in Nightfall there's not much room for error :)
I totally agree to some extent. Nightfall's die-and-get-punted restriction begs you to "break it." And the Minotaur in the Nexus cave for example is almost outright endorsement from Bungie XD

Anyone can drop out at any time, whether it's in MM or in a group of your friends. If your community has to make a third party website to find groups for content then obviously you need to reevaluate your game mechanics.

Yes it is a double edged sword but WoW makes it work and it encourages playing with strangers. My first raid clear was with complete strangers via Destinylfg. Your argument is invalid.
Yes but you have social obligations to your friends which will stop you from acting like a dick. The absolute anonymity of matchmaking removes that.

WoW has social features which allow the creation and policing of an online community that this game doesn't. What works in WoW will not work in Destiny. That's exactly why a 3rd party website is needed.

"All Bungie would have to do...".

That's not exactly a small task. If it takes them this long to balance a few weapons, balancing an entire raid to easy mode is going to take ages.

As the content stands /right now/, there are plenty of reasons why mm is a bad idea. I detailed the main offenders above. Feel free to discuss them and add some counter points if you don't agree.

That's a completely different story.

It's not a magic fix.

*tips hat*

I'd like to help people with the heroic raid this week. I know the popular strategies and can explain them, as well as improvise. Level 29 maxed Sunsinger/Voidwalker here.

PSN: Afrodeeziyak. Send me a FR or a PM. I live on the east coast and I'm willing to raid any day except for Thursday.

I've cleared the normal mode plenty of times to the point where I think I could probably pull off the Flawless Raider trophy on a good day.
Sending a friend request for later, okay.

I'm in the same boat accept I'm a 29 titan in the middle of the country. I'll add you incase something comes up.

People arguing otherwise sure sound a lot like Bungie, telling us how the game should be played and what the best experience for everyone is.

Would you also be interested in the normal Raid this weekend as well for people like myself who haven't done it but who'd like to play with those that know what they're doing and can explain directions so I and all of us around running around clueless for 8 hours? Haha.

I really want to run it from start to finish this weekend at some point. If not no big deal.

Which pulse did you get? They aren't bad after some upgrading. I'm starting to really dig my Bad Seed Down. It was really nice in the Nightfall last night. We beat it without dying once. Then did the Weekly Heroic without dying once.

That's what it is.

My experience with pulse rifles has been awful, I'll still give it a fair shot though.

Whats up with the almost impossible Exotic Bounty for the handgun ? I need 500 PvP kills with void damage and this fucking counter resets when i'm dying. Wtf was Bungie thinking ? "Hey lets make a bounty that only the top10 PvP players in the world can finish" ? Super shitty if you ask me. And yes i suck at PvP so this handgun is out of reach for me or what ?

It's not 500 kills, it's 500 points. A kill is worth 5 points, a death is -2. I did it in Rumble with a void shotgun.

Yeah that's complete bullshit. I completed my first two raid encounters with a group of complete strangers via the third party LFG system.

There are games, like WoW, that already implement a variety of these systems that can be used as a model.

And let's be honest, Bungie already knows how to modify existing content because they've been doing it for years with their skill system.

I seriously don't understand why this game with its terrible itemization and lack of focus on social play is so staunchly defended here. The game needs a lot of work and there are plenty of games that can be easily emulated here and still give Destiny it's own identity.

It's grossly becoming apparent that this game tried to brazenly trail blaze when it wasn't necessary.

I agree. I even play PvP almost exclusively and I can't get my counter higher than 15 and by the end of the night it's almost always back to 0.

I wish it actually played out how it is descibed in its tooltip where dying would just slow down your progress. So maybe it's 5 points per kill but if you keep dying it would go down to 4 points per kill then 3 then 2 then 1. Even if I was always stuck at 1 point per kill at least I'd be able to eventually finish the dang thing.

I suck at using fusion rifles or shotguns. I want to use my primary not secondaries.

Nice playing with you in Nightfall. If you need someone for Normal Raid, invite. I know how it works now. I want the complete Raid with Clan members trophy.

I think it kinda sucks that the raid mobs drop so little loot. It's dissapointing when you're running the raid multiple times. You can waste a few hours shooting raid mobs only to walk out with 0 loot. I think that's kinda silly since they're the hardest enemies in the game. Yet the lvl1 dregs seem to drop more loot.

Was brutal lol

That whole conflux part before the oracles in the templar arena has to be the hardest part of the entire raid. For me it is, at least. It's nuts how making the enemies level 30 makes it that much difficult for unprepared groups.

Would you also be interested in the normal Raid this weekend as well for people like myself who haven't done it but who'd like to play with those that know what they're doing and can explain directions so I and all of us around running around clueless for 8 hours? Haha.

If you need me, sure. I got shafted in the raid yesterday by getting shards, a third fucking raid sniper rifle, and a second glass minuet so I'm kinda salty about the ordeal. However, I can definitely help.

The Daily Story Heroics if nothing else sure, as long as the matchmaking WAS optional. I like the challenge of doing them solo on occasion.

The Weekly Heroics, okay, not awful to consider. One player can carry the team quite a bit. Checkpoints will be a godsend for a matchmade team.

Nightfall... hmmmm. This is where we get into territory where I use the metric, "would it be fun for me if I were the third?" I really don't know. Without coordination, a Nightfall can last 5 minutes before winding up back in orbit. There are SOME measures you can implement to ensure competency or adequate gear on those entering the queue, but these will only get you so far.

Even if they don't have/use a mic, being able to hear a player that knows what he or she is doing is absolutely 100% necessary IMO. I have done something on the order of 20 Nightfall strikes with GAFers now and the idea of having been able to succeed without them at least hearing me, even if they couldn't respond with voice, is a joke.

Agreed. The raid actually requires some communication so fair enough but the weekly strikes and Nightfall are just the same old strikes that you can play with any stranger.

Finally after weeks of playing my luck has started to turn for the better. Across the 6 legendary engrams I picked up this past week 5 have become legendary items and the 6th a pair of exotic gauntlets for a titan. 2 days ago I was able to get the bounty for pocket infinity. Then last night after completing the nightfall mission I get the exotic rocket launcher "Truth". I almost feel like Master Rahool and the RNG are trying to make good on all those green pants they kept re-gifting.

The one question I have is I am currently using the "Super Pox VLO" pulse rifle and also picked up "Fair and Square" last night. They seem to have similar stats except fair and square can be turned into an auto fire pulse rifle. I was wondering if fair and square is worth investing some time into or if I should just scrap it now.

I was all ready to leave this game to play Forza Horizon 2, but with the great streak I've been having I can't seem to walk away.

Or there being any sort of "trash" mob encounters. It's basically a linear path from boss 1 to boss 2.

But it does work that way... And you only lose 2 points per death... If not, something's up and you should contact support(after paying close attention to it to confirm.) I've done the bounty and I'm far from a monster in PvP lol

Edit: well not the way you describe, but you can die twice per kill and make progress lol.

I was BREEZING through the nightfall solo, had the tank's energy half way down, and got hit with an impossible battery blast.
lol yeah that happened to me too. The enemies have impossible aim with every mortar-style weapon, really (Knights, Minotaurs, etc).

But anyway you can take out the tank with 12 arc sniper shots. 3 to each corner of the tank, in case you weren't aware.

After finishing the raid a few times, I am 100% certain that a random group of 6 strangers who have finished the raid at least once before could easily finish the raid together. Once you know how the fights work there's very little that needs coordinating. And if it's six strangers who are thrown together with no prior experience, they can still finish the raid. That's what me and 5 other gaffers did. Whether we coordinated forming our group through GAF or through the matchmaking, doesn't really make a difference.

To not have matchmaking for the lowest level raid is silly.

And, once again, the Speaker denies me my Moctezuma-Polyphonic titan mark.

Oh well, maybe I can get 50 motes and buy Deep Stone Crypt to hold me over until next Wednesday.

Yeah, it's the hardest part imo.

I was getting very pissed at this Bounty until I seen a suggestion of running Rumble matches with a Shotgun. Anomaly was the best map for this.

Has anyone gone back and ran through every story mission on the hardest difficulty yet? Though I'm 99.9999999999% sure you won't get dick for it, just curious if there was a reward. It's sort of like the legendary difficulty for Halo games... and the "Nightfall" version would be LASO. I doubt you get any rewards, but you should.

Can't bring myself to running through that story again.

That's what it is.

My experience with pulse rifles has been awful, I'll still give it a fair shot though.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of them at all until I picked this one up. I haven't even hit the big stability upgrade nor the full-auto upgrade.

Give it a go and let me know your thoughts. People seem to either love it or hate it.

What is your ideal primary? Exotic AR?
