Hi guys - got the game last weekend and just managed to put in a little time this weekend to level my Warlock to lvl 16.
I've been trying everything from the first Strike available on the Moon to playing some PvP Control and Clash rounds in the Crucible. Last night, it was all lvl 26+ on Clash and was having a hard time getting more than 5-8 kills per match. I assume this will get better once I get some more game time in and some better gear
(either that or I just suck at PvP)
. On the plus side, I finally got my bounty for winning 3 Control rounds.
Even though the game hasn't been out long, I feel like I'm late to the party. I wanted to get some game time in without any guides, etc., just to get a flavor, and I find the game really draws you in and is quite polished at this early stage (given its short lifespan), and is the best mixture of MMO and shooter I've played yet.
Now some questions:
- Should I spend much time farming at lvl 16-20 or just spend my time trying to get through the story missions / basic new content as it unlocks?
- Is the Warlock competitive enough in PvP? Which subclass should I focus on for now?
- Is it worth reading guides in the first run through of the game or am I spoiling it? This may be a personal choice, but I'm asking this of people who prefer to usually play through a game without guides as far as possible, knowing that with MMOs there's a chance you're going down a path that could suffer in long term viability?
- Is there no voice chat in co-op missions, or am I missing something?
- Is there a PSN Destiny gamertag exchange thread? I'm Cartographer on PSN - would love to play more co-op with Gaffers and friendly gamers in general.

Yeah I wish there were more reliable ways to get strange coins for sure. Only other one that sometimes works for me is farming blue engrams, and Tiger playlists are probably the best way to do that now if you don't want to farm a loot cave.

Of course, but if he didn't know to do the weekly then those 9 coins would help if he's in a coin pinch next time he wants something.
Haven't played in a week amd I'm still ending up on the first or second place with my Cydonia-AR3 in almost all of my played Crucible matches. Screw your overhyped legendary/exotic weapons.
Pulse weapons and hand canons seem a bit overpowered, have to play a bit more to give a proper judgment.
STILL NO legendary/exotic armor/weapon loot, so I don't know if I'm missing anything.

Check the OP for Hawkian's pretty fantastic guides - they're really the only thing you need, especially where you are in the game's progression. I would say finish out the story and don't worry about farming anything right now - the general first order of business is to settle on where you want to focus building reputation (vanguard, crucible or one of the 3 factions), and you won't start gathering marks until Lv 18 iirc. The story isn't very long and it's a good quick way to get some XP on the way to Lv 20.
Once you settle on what you'd like to throw your rep towards, you'll settle in to the first kind of "grind" in that you need to build up to at least level 2 reputation with whatever vendor you've chosen (I picked one of the factions since regardless of PvP or PvE, the rep will all go to the faction vendor). By playing a ton to build that rep up, you'll almost inevitably pick up some rare blues, so IMO the notion of having to loot cave is kind of silly. Again, Hawkian's guides in the OP do a great job of succinctly laying out the game's post-20 structure.
And just have fun! Reading around, I think people who are burning out on the game are throttling at full speed to try to get ready for the raid as fast as possible. If you take your time and go a little more casual with things, it seems to be much more rewarding and less frustrating.
I see lots of interest in US Raids and Nightfall, Is anyone running a GMT raid or nightfall ? lvl 27 (nearly 28) hunter, no experience in either but ready to learn quickly and i have a microphone ...
Did Tiger strike several times, got a bunch of engrams. Most importantly, I got a bunch of gauntlet engrams. One of them decrypted into a legendary item, equipped it.
Turned in some bounties, which unlocked upgrades for the new gear. Upgraded them to an extent, now I'm level 26
Don't worry about being late to the party first of all! There's plenty of new people starting. There are guides in the OP as far as what to do at 20- I would say don't worry about anything until you hit that number, just play however you feel like, but do load up on vanguard bounties and get those done whenever possible. Leveling Vanguard up to 2 and then 3 is a huge, permanently useful advantage for your account, and bounties are the way to do that. But your road to 20 you can really do however you want.

Sunsingers... they're... ouch. goddamn. You're fine, lol. Voidwalkers are for the most part easier to use and can be very competitive to.

I would recommend not reading a guide your first time in the raid. After you encounter each part of it, then guides are fine, but there is stuff in there I am REALLY glad I had no idea about (beyond what I couldn't avoid reading in this thread) before seeing it firsthand. Other than that, there's really nothing to spoil, and you can't permanently handicap your viability in this game like many RPGs.
- Is there no voice chat in co-op missions, or am I missing something?
Currently, the only voice chat is with a premade fireteam.
- Is there a PSN Destiny gamertag exchange thread? I'm Cartographer on PSN - would love to play more co-op with Gaffers and friendly gamers in general.
I've only been hanging out in this thread and my friends list is about to burst. Hawkian on PS4 if that's your console of choice, and you can always feel free to PM me if you have specific questions about anything.
Been running tigers all day, no legendaries, just blues/coins/motes. Just ran one, during the strike a guy found a legendary, and then as we checked out from finishing, he gets another in his rewards, fucking RNG!
Any experienced Raiders out there that can join and help guide our fireteam? Could use maybe two. Mic preferred and 27 or above also preferred. PSN ID is Greenymac. Level 28 Sunsinger.

I don't think you are even supposed to be at hard Atheon if you are only 27. You would get shredded even at first bosses first phase at that level when on hard.
Switch to your subclass to turn in bounties, then change back (if you don't like the subclass). It will quickly jump you up to the point where it's not too painful to play the subclass in the normal game.
The only way to fix the pvp in this game, is for them to finally admit bringing your own guns to the party is broken.
They should have a standard layout of weopens per map all balanced for mp, like the original halo they should be picked up and be in a loadout like halo 4 and this.
I love this game and the multiplayer is fun but the pvp is broke I do agree.
Well guys, its been fun but I'm done with the game. I put 70+ hours into the game and 40+ hours into the beta, so those combined it would be most time I've spent with this year. I had no urge to get on do the raid again or spend my 30 coins or 40 motes at Xur.
There's a lot of things that annoy me about the game, but I'm not stopping because of those, I'm stopping because I've gotten to that point where I'd have get more enjoyment playing a new game. The game has been genuinely fun and addicting, and I enjoyed playing with you guys. Shout out to Gamer At Heart for being a cool gaffer that I would regularly play with.
I'll still be posting in the thread a bit and keeping an eye on updates just to see what's up. Cheers, guardians.
This is the first weekend after release of the game when most of the people on my Xbox One friend list are not playing Destiny.
I was looking for friends to help with level 26 raid, but almost everyone is either playing something else or watching TV/Netflix.
I'm a little bit annoyed that after all that grinding for an exotic weapon bounty, I now need two volunteers to help me to complete the raid portion of that bounty.
When I do my normal patrol/spinmetal farming run, checking every cave and elite enemy spawn in one single area of Old Russia, I keep asking myself why I keep doing it.
I still enjoy the PVP side of the game, but I think this is the last MMO style game I will ever purchase.
