Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Oh dear...

Really hoping this was just some PR gaffe or spin mistake and not actually a decision they made...

If not then it's a bad decision. I can understand the knee jerk reaction to "let's avoid those negative stories that happens with every game that has a res difference" but the thing is, you can't.

We're not usually talking about the game itself but about the hardware decisions MS made with it's product and the consequences that has. And we as consumers will, quite correctly so, talk about this regarding product differences or inadequacies. Of course there are trolls and what not who will fuel the fires but trying to stifle that will actually make it worse. MS made a weaker product and people will debate this. This is healthy. It is a shame however that game makers get caught in the cross fire.

The big irony is now for Ubi is that by trying to circumvent this by specifically lock down the PS4 version to perform worse they are going to get much more press about this decision ever than the standard "PS4 version is 1090 Xbone is 900" articles. This is going to spawn editorials about if it was the right decision and what it means for the industry as a whole. In fact what they have done here is changed the focus from the xbone hardware over to themselves. In effect, they have put a big olde galleon of fuel on a small dying fire.

That is not the issue here. The issue is that they CAN have the game in 1080p. If 900p was the maximum they could reach becquse the game is soooo demanding, then people wuldnt have a problem with it. Its the fact they openly say its parity that sucks

Well yeah. Resolution means absolutely nothing in that regard because the CPU isn't dealing with that, the GPU is. CPU load will remain the same. The bottleneck decreases when you put the GPU to work. It's just that there will be no effect on framerate no matter what you do. If you lower the graphics framerate will remain the same.

And that's why we have no playstation exclusive content and why it's always shown at MS's shows.
Damn Ubisoft Xbox One will be 900p@30fps regardless, ya just fucking over Playstation owners here.

Why did Ubisoft even decide to use Xbone to market ACU when they've used Playstation since forever?

I'm not someone who cancels pre-orders on principle but they chose the worst month to pull this shit, I knew I had to cancel a couple of games and they've just made their title a given.

Isnt that Phil Spencer guy great, isnt he? All he does and is spending money on is to subtract other peoples experience and not to add for his own user base.

And companies like EA, Square enix and Ubisoft are willing to play with him that dirty anti consumer game.

But but we need to support these guys because reasons.... Fuck off!

The annoying thing about this is that the mere existence of a competing console (XB1) is making a game I want for my console worse. So I would be better off if the XB1 didn't exist. I never want to think something like that.

Thanks a freaking bunch Ubisoft. Fingers crossed for a patch as I will almost definitely going to be buying it anyway (based on what Ive seen)

Here's how the next week will go.

The anger amongst the internet will pick up steam.
Games journalists will laugh and claim that everyone are idiots for caring about this.
The internet public won't care about what the journalists say.
Ubisoft will retract the statement and claim it's pushing both systems to the max and that resolution hasn't been locked in yet.
The game will have a patch for 1080p on PS4.
The games journalists will once again prove that they are becoming largely irrelevant and don't speak for the public.

I hope the patch part ends up being true. Everything up til then will certainly happen.

As stated, I wonder if MS had something to do with this?

Would MS really sink that low?

I'm not a fan of MS, but if this is on them, I would be surprised.

Do they not realise that aiming for parity, for the sake of not wanting arguments over which version is the best, will only cause people to then argue about the fact that both versions look the same? People are going to argue regardless. They should have just focused on getting the most out of each console.

But anyway, Ubisoft aren't doing themselves any favours, and I won't be buying this game at release. I won't be supporting parity this gen. I've lost so much respect for them over the last 5 years or so.

Guys, we have to all support the PS4 version so that Ubisoft will see all the sales and give that version more attention next time!

Think of the future!

I'm right there with ya.

It'll be fine tho. The majority of the userbase doesn't give a shit. I'll be surprised if the PS4 SKU isn't the highest selling.

it's not a question of 'just rewriting it', you are working with a completely different (sub)set of functions, a different data model, etc. GPU resources lend themselves for very specific tasks; chance is big that you can't even get your piece of programming done with it.
Well I though the 8 Aces are on ps4 for that?

I can't say that I'm surprised. All of the non-PC footage they've shown has looked aliased and fuzzy.

And I seriously doubt that the "parity" has anything to do with Ubisoft wanting to end arguments. If they could have gotten the game running at 1080p on PS4 they would have. I'd surmise that it's an issue of time and, more importantly, a weak CPU as they've stated. If a game is CPU limited a better GPU isn't going to do much.

Everyone getting upset needs to relax as well. Running at the same resolution doesn't mean that both games will look the same.

Aww, you're cute, puddin'.

MS thinks exclusive marketing will matter for shit on this game and Ubisoft thinks parity will avoid debates like this. Hopeless.

I just have to tell myself not to buy it. I somehow fall into the hype of Ass Creed every year. That and I don't think I've ever picked it up at more than $35 during every black friday.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff,"

What in the actual FUCK?!?

The fact that this actually happened is one thing, but their PR department really let this guy just come out and say it? Nice to be honest I guess but incoming shit storm. This is just a really really stupid decision from Ubisoft and I honestly can't imagine why they'd do it except $$$$.

I own both systems but this isn't making me want to go buy the XONE version, it's just making me pissed at Microsoft.

I'm definitely not buying this game, I'm perfectly fine with 900p if it's the best they could do. To come out publicly and say parity to avoid debate is absolutely disgusting.
