PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

Is Sony ever going to release a color besides all black? This is the only thing keeping me from getting a slim, I want some other color variant and I can't justify 230$ from Amazon or even over 200$ via superufo or nippon yasan.

That blue white or khacki black!!!

I get this itch about every 2 months fyi...

I want to play Gravity Rush and Uncharted again with those crips triggers on the 2k.

Isn't a 2K like 200/220 on amazon for all black?

Just to add SotN has some interesting 'bugs' if not tricks where you can start the main game still equipped with your strong weapons etc. you'd need to youtube or google them but this game has some very wacko stuff you can do in it.

if you're super awesome enough, you can literally skip to the end credits from the library merchant to beat the game in 9 minutes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc56JEd1qxA

the game is super busted, but that's why we love it

Any recommendations for New Little Kings Story? Thinking about grabbing it while its on sale.

I've never played Pikmin, but apparently it's like Pikmin. I enjoyed it for what it was, but be warned, they animed this one up to 11. Late game there's a lot of slowdown too (sub 15fps).

I played it on Wii (loved it, haven't played the Vita one, yet, though) and it's a lot like Pikmin but it also has its own thing going on, for sure.

Also you should play Pikmin.

I'm coming back to the world of Playstation for some single player titles:

Velocity
First Light
OlliOlli
Hohokum
Road Not Taken
The Last Of Us

It looks like these are the titles I am mostly missing from around March this year?

Yes, again all black is what I am trying to avoid, I have an all black OG, would just like a bit of variety is all, just that price gap for a system imported with no card or game vs that all black model with game and card, but that damn all BLACK! I held a used one the other day and I am hooked, just don't know I i would have extreme buyers remorse with shelling out 230$ when $200 gets me a game and card too...

reading it again, i think it's being made into a PSN title and not a PSone classic. not once do they mention it'd be a classic, just that they found a way to bring it worldwide

Not in the article itself but the sub-headline does say it

The legendary -- and bizarre -- PSone classic comes to PS3 and Vita tomorrow. Read on for a special note from Shawn Layden. Read More

And yeah that part about PS4 is interesting... PS Now still doesn't have PS1 and PS2 games, doesn't it? Maybe this is a hint that they are indeed working on local PS1 (and maybe PS2) support on PS4, despite the previously accepted notion that they wouldn't bother because of PS Now.

It should be noted though, that the audio CD feature would be impossible on PS4, since the PS4 optical drive is physically incapable of reading CDs.

I made an assumption that it would be a PSone Classic, but I don't see how it could be a native release. There's no mention on improvements over the original, or MP3 functionality. What's the point of doing a new build when nothing has been updated?

or maybe they'll literally calling it a PSone classic, as in a classic PSone game #reaching

Hebijo is basically an alternate take on the events, but the girls backstories as well as the ending is important to the overall story. Whether any of that matters in the upcoming Shinvoi Versus I have no clue lol. Also until that final chapter, Hebijo is much shorter and easier than the Hanzo side and also has quite a bit less story sections I believe. What's there is very good though and I actually enjoyed it just as much as Hanzo, if not more. Especially cause of Yomi, Hikage, and that ending.
Late quote since I woke up late, but this. I loved playing Hebijo more than Hanzo. Based Hebijo with the best girl (Hikage). And yes, it does matter for Shinovi Versus, though it's not like VLR or DR2, where playing the first one is ABSOLUTELY necessary; you can very much enjoy Shinovi Verusus without playing both sides of Burst.

I got bored by it after few hours. Might be worth a few bucks if you like exotic games.

It's a great game imo, it has low frame rate in certain situations but it's playable.

Ehhh. Money is tight. Guess Ill save my money for something else. MGS1 it is.

Hmm I see. Well I feel like if anything, it would be good just to get a feeling for what is going on with the characters while SV is it's own thing, even though the characters are all there, hence why Burst got a sequel on the 3DS just recently in Japan. I don't have the source, but I'm 90% sure I read this somewhere...

It was the opposite for me. I played P4G first and then P3P and liked it even more :D
But I do wish they would make a P3P Vita remake like Golden. The game could benefit immensely.

I don't know, the darker thematic side of P3P appealed so much more to me. P4 is a great game and has it's own dark side too, but it's a much more uplifting game.

Yes that was pretty much the same reason for me. Both had fine stories but I liked the darker theme of P3P more and it felt more dramatic it regards to what's at stake (and it doesn't have Teddie plus you can have a social link with a dog :D). I loved playing P4G but even with the technical and design shortcomings I enjoyed P3P even more.

Although he's funny and all I personally found Teddie to be a bit of an annoying guy/bear LOL. I wonder if P5 is going to have a "mascot" of it's own.

While Teddie was annoying, aside from him, I felt P4 had the better cast overall. I actually cared about the characters in P4; in P3, aside from Shinjiro and Koromaru, I was like 'meh'. Even with all the drama. However, I can see why some would like P3 more.

I think a smaller role would have been good for Teddie. He has some funny lines and is not really a bad character but I had already enough of him halfway through the game. He felt a bit forced into some of the scenes especially where he didn't add anything besides annoy the rest of the group.

I'm in the camp that played P4G first then played P3P and I really have to agree; P3 is a really interesting game :).

It wasn't the fact that the game was dark but more so things felt 'important'. I mean, in P4G, sure everyone has to face themselves before using their Persona's but outside of the 'other self' moments, the game really didn't feel that dark (outside of the last third at least).

With P3P, it isn't dark but it sure felt more serious; everyone loses something, each person had their own individual issues they had to deal with (and they did that almost always without Minato on screen, different compared to Yu being with his friends they entire time), and Minato wasn't the center of attention for the game which makes him a stronger character on his own terms due to not completely being a blank slate; he is a loner at the start for example (everyone wasn't friends but more so co-workers teaming up to solve a common issue).

I loved the cast of P4 but P3's cast is my preferred one :). Everyone is so interesting and unique and don't fall (mostly) into stereotypes. My favorite characters are Aigis and Junpi; both are really interesting and both go through major developments toward the end of the game (really wished you could have a S. Link with Junpi in the Male MC path :(). And regarding Aigis, probably the best romance in any game I've played so far (dat ending man :'().

Loved P3's story and I really hope Atlus and Sega make a Persona 3 Remaster for Vita one day :D.

Here we go another week with a very worthwhile and notable PSN Classic.

So lets see, MMX4, MMX5, Namco Collection, Strider 2 and now Vib Ribbon.

In a previous post on the PSN network thread asked if this would continue, and I think with Vib Ribbon I am sure that this is an actual effort from Sony and third parties to add some more noteriety to PSN Classics and give the whole store section a revitalization.

My personal theory is that this is all build up for when Sony turns on PSN Classics on PS4. This seems all to coincidental to be random deals and liscensing going through all at once.

If Suikoden II pops up this month or early next, then there is no way to deny this as an actual effort.

The bolded might happen, considering that was part of the Konami sale this week :).

I think this is awesome :D; amazing PS1 Capcom games landing on the store, those cool Namco collections landing on the store (instead of the games sold by themselves; really cool of Namco :)) and now Vib Ribbon all equals a huge push on the PS1 Classics side :D.

If only they 'fix' the Vita store again; more PS Classics on the Vita is amazing :).

I finally finished Persona 3 FES over the weekend.. (I've been putting it off for years)
Even though I was spoiled on most of the story stuff, I really enjoyed it. Guess I can put my PS2 away for good now.

I played Persona 4 first and liked this one better.
Well, except Tartarus.. I felt like that thing would never end.

Unsure if I want to play the answer since I hear that's just straight up grinding.

Now I'm not sure if I want to buy/play Persona 4 Golden, I think I've had enough Persona for a while.

I like P4G for the added social links and extended content, but if you've had enough, hold off for a while. Like most ATLUS games, it goes on sale constantly, so play Shinovi Versus, then play P4G later on.

Don't bother with the answer; like you said, it is full of grinding and it butchers the ending of P3 :(. Either way, if you want to experience its story just watch it on YouTube :).

I think P4G is a great buy due to all the extra content is has over the original P4 + all the fixes it has over it:
-Marie and
Adachi
S. Links
-New Persona's and ones lifted from P3 and P3:FES
-Refined Combat (though it is easier then the original)
-New Story sections and events
-You can explore at Night
-You get more time to max out your S.Links (at least one-two months of extra time to max out them)
-New difficulty options (Super Hard mode + Very Easy mode)
-Two new endings (Golden Ending and Bad Ending)
-Dat OLED XD
-New dungeon tied with the Marie S.Link

I think it is a great buy even if you played P4 before; all the extra content and gameplay fixes make the game perfect on Vita :).

I tried it and it is a grind and a half. I ended up searching up the cutscenes and reading all about it on the web.

After all the hype surrounding Danganronpa 2, I found it to be rather... Underwhelming. Oh well, I'm sure Another Episode will spark my interest again. First game is still the best for me. Time to move on.

I haven't beaten it yet but I agree. The first game is comfortably better.

I didn't know that DR2 is the more popular one. I finished both recently and liked the first one a bit better. Probably because I played it blind without knowing anything about them (neither story, not gameplay/genre), so the first one had a bigger impact. The second one felt like more of the same (with worse mini-games). Still fantastic game though, with great story and characters and I love both of them.

After beating DR2 yesterday, I actually agree. Overall both games are pretty much the same in their highs and lows, both having terrible minigames, a rather lackluster conclusion and a bit of filler to them but great characters, awesome crazyness and actually feelable despair make them pretty good. It's just that I liked the cast of DR1 more, found the minigames to be less unfun and it was the tighter and more focused experience.

DR If mentions referencing stuff from Zero, should I read that before or am I good to continue reading If?

My first 10 days of being a PS4 owner:"how this POS could sell like it did, and fucked the vita in the process?". Destiny sucks, No games, no demos, barebones OS, etc.

Pretty dissapointed so far.

Destiny does suck, but there are plenty of good games out there. What type of games are you looking for?

And if you say only JRPGs I'd question why you bought it this year in the first place!

Didn't the Vita get a Sales Push after the Ps4 Launch though?

I bought it because I got a discount, but I must say there are really lacking in interesting games so far. I'm glad DriveClub and Samurai Warriors 4 are coming, otherwise I'd have to shelves it and keep playing my PS3.

I enjoyed Destiny but in the last couple of weeks my PS4 has mostly been used for crunchyroll. Towerfall is great with friends though. Don't think I'll buy another retail game until FF Type-0 HD

That was a holiday spike, they happen every year

Yeah I havent turned mine on since PT but yeah know....HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA WILL DO THAT

Looked for exclusive games, tried all the PS plus games, and found them ranging to ok (resogun) to terrible (road not taken, contrast). Also I found indie games somewhat out of place on the ps4. The ps4 serious lacks interesting games and its almost 1 year old, the launch period is long gone.

That is how I feel about this generation overall so far. Doesn't help that I am on my third PS4 now in less than 90 days. :(

Yeah that is why I just got one now and switching as I got the NewEgg deal $420 Destiny Bundle.

I'm kind of pleased there are less games to play as it gives me less distractions at the moment anyway! Really pleased Unfinished Swan is coming out soon as that should look amazing on the PS4.

There have been some really great games albeit some you didn't need a PS4 for. Child of Light, Guacamelee and Valiant Hearts are all sublime. Infamous was really good too, I think why it seems so bad is because this holiday should have had The Order but instead 3rd parties are shouldering the weight which isn't so bad if you like Dragon Age/Assassins Creed.

Read If first, Zero afterwards.

I'd say it's still better than the PS3 was at the same moment in its lifetime, though.

I bought my first PS3 in 2008 as a glorified Blu-Ray player (right after Blu-Ray won the war against HD-DVD), and it was still a barren wasteland. And back then they didn't have much indies to pad their library.
