Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

The idea that apparently many would be ok with 900p if the xb1 version was at 720p is what makes it funny to me.

The issue is less about the resolution as it is about knowing that one console is being artificially limited. It's annoying to know that the game isn't at its full potential for the sake of politics.

God damnit, Unity was the game i was looking forward too the most to play in november. I just can't buy this now in good conscience. Ah well, there's always next year eh Ubisoft?

What is your point then if you are on numerous occasions attempting to boast about X1's higher clock speed?

What possible benefit would it have on frame-rate in this point in topic if X1's extra resources have no bearing on games performance.

I wasn't boasting. People assume stating facts is boasting. The PS4 CPU is more capable at this point, but not more powerful. I was just clearing something up.

Lol PS4 users myself included will experience for the first time what it feels playing a downgraded product to an inferior hardware.
That being said, i'm going for the PC version.
PC setting will be the same regardless of card because parity and stuff

The people who obsess over stuff like parity and post on gaming forums about it are NOT the majority of the audience.
Do you think Joe Everyman is following gaming news and reading interviews? Nah. This type of news definitely hits the core gamers first, and their reaction conditions the subsequent sentiment from the extended audience.

So it's either:

Ubisoft didn't want to put in the effort and made a lame excuse to have both versions at 900p.

or

MS didn't want more PS4 copies to be sold due to being the better version, and thus "talked" Ubisoft into forcing parity in hopes to have a more equal split in sales for one of the biggest selling games of the year.

I mean, they're bundling CoD, so they're good there. The next biggest franchise was AC, so they made a deal there, got that under wraps. It must be like a checklist of things to do.

It's a shame, because some of the recent videos (the ones showing their procedural engine tools) really had me excited for the game. But screw supporting these kinds of shenanigans.

Sure, but now I can say I have no reservations about picking up the Xbox One version over the ps4 version.
Why does it even matter, if you don't even own PS4 (or don't want to play games on it)? It's the same exact thing if you don't own a PC capable of playing this game at better visuals, while other people clearly do. Like literally, exactly the same thing.

LMAO at people thinking this is a debate about resolution. It's about sparking a trend of parity between tech because developers and publishers want to avoid scandalous debates.

Good Job Ubi. Way to move the gaming tech scene forward.

Making such a big deal out of something that has a small impact on your experience is stupid.

Like someone in this thread already said, being confused and asking why 1080p isn't pissible is a reasonable reaction to this news and their justification for it. Acting like Ubisoft killed your mother is not. People talking about how ubisoft is now on their shit list alongside ea. Or proudly proclaiming that they aren't going to get the game that they already thought was going to be good enough to fucking pre order it months in advance is stupid.

Your strawman arguments about caring too much are horse shit.

Someone killing your mother deserves a violent reaction and contacting police.

People in this thread are simply making forum posts.

I've decided to not buy this game, to avoid bullshit and stuff.

Yeah I think they're gonna lose a lot of day one money. At least on the PS4 side. Well, from people who read this stuff and care about it...

I definitely will not be buying day one now. If every third party dev did this with every game it'd be insane. Don't do this crap. The people who prefer X1 are gonna play it on there anyway. They should know that their box isn't quite as strong as Sony's. Should just come to terms with that.

The people who obsess over stuff like parity and post on gaming forums about it are NOT the majority of the audience.

1. Early adopters of new technology are the hardcore fans and enthusiasts who do post on forums such as these.

2. The opinions of enthusiasts and hardcore fans are usually sought out by their mainstream/casual friends and sometimes simply pushed on them regardless of their desire to hear it.

This kind of news spreads from the core outward, and it will spread quickly because it's complete bullshit.

Sucks for the console only crowd. If I get this it will be on PC anyway so #masterace?

I think Uplay negates that somewhat, so... flusterrace? Friend of mine has 25 hours playtime logged for From Dust on Steam. That's 25 hours trying to get it to work.

Wouldn't be buying anyway.

Can't stand Ubisoft games - talk about same old shitty time and time again....

Laughing at the Fission Mailed though with regards to how stupid Ubisoft are coming across with this statement.

Sorry for those who like their games.

It's actually neither of those. Ubisoft could bump up the resolution quite quickly. They just decided to go the Destiny route and aim for parity. Not everything is a conspiracy yknow.

What was the resolution of assassins creed 4 on ps4?

quick edit: 1080p granted this is a new game but to drop resolution from one game to another? Has that been done often before?

40% that we can barely notice while playing. 40% is a significant number, but is it that significant in pratice terms?

40% seems a significant number, but it depends what the other number is that the 40% relates to. The PS4 is 40% more powerful than something not very powerful.

In PC terms it is approx an R7265 v and R7260, both mid range cards, 265 is better but still a mid range card. I expect to see more sub 1080p games on PS4 as the generation goes on and graphics are pushed further.

Only Ubisoft know if 1080/30 was possible on PS4, people underestimate how much more demanding 1080p is compared to 900p.

God damnit, Unity was the game i was looking forward too the most to play in november. I just can't buy this now in good conscience. Ah well, there's always next year eh Ubisoft?

Sure you can still buy it in good conscience, this whole thing isn't a big deal. If you're interested in the game, pick it up.

I get the feeling parity is going to be over as soon as Sony release more of their first party games, as the third party games will have to compete with graphics in order to captivate the audience.

Ubi have made a dumb business choice here short and long term. 1080p is important, it's the native resolution of most TVs the are owned right now. All my friends who I rocked Xbox360 with are now ps4 on destiny right now and no one cares about parity, we switched because Sony made the more powerful console and its as simple as that. I will not switch to Xbox one because of this, whatever they were trying to achieve has failed.

The thread is flying.
> We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff
> 42 pages in 2 hours

Problem, senior producer?

I think we tend to forget that controversy on Gaf == controversy for mainstream consumers. In the vein of Machiavelli, better to unleash this controversy more than a month before launch in one big bang so mainstream consumers will forget about it by the time the game comes out, affecting purchases less than if this was leaked or something a week before launch. If you're going to hurt people, do it all at once instead of drawing it out and they'll forget about it with time.

Obviously this was always going to be a big deal on Gaf that people won't forget, but I think this is more damage control for the perception of the mainstream audience.

Yeah my bad. Still, I feel like people are hilariously over-reacting in this thread.

"Stuff" huh? Sounds complicated. As a PC and PS4 gamer it's enough to make me wonder if I need this game.

Not that I don't mind parity as such; but this sounds like a real cop out for the more powerful systems.

Wow, it's like they are blind to past criticism. Did they not see the huge PC backlash from the downgrading of Watchdogs?

lol, hilarious and sad that they would openly admit something like this. ubi just really doesn't give a fuck. the game will sell millions of copies anyway, so it's a win win situation for them.

Aren't Ubisoft games infamous for being shit on PC anyway?

I would say "shit" is gamer hyperbole. They are not as optimized as they could and should be, but it's still a good experience and looks good. At least Black Flag was. I had to jump through some hoops with D3Doverrider to get triple-buffering, but the end result was very nice.

Shit = Dark Souls running at 720p without any options... etc.

I wish this was real. Nevertheless, it's brilliant and well-deserved.

I mean, I'm bummed, but damn people chill.

Chill? Reminds me of the "rational" gamers that were saying chill after the X1 reveal and DRM plans.

No. Don't chill. Raise hell in a constructive manner. Spread the word. Cause a stink. Let Ubi feel the heat, just like MS felt it after seeing the preorder numbers when word got out about their original plans.

Staying quiet in these instances usually equates to being complacent. Raising hell doesn't mean rioting in the streets and death threats. It means raising your voice so even game media can't ignore for fear of missing out on the next attention grabbing topic.

And I've seen a lot of people suspect it in this thread, but I don't know if MS had a hand in this. Because if they did, MS really miscalculated the benefit of having the PS4 version gimped to force parity or at least the ability of Ubi to not be blatant about intentionally locking both versions to avoid debates, because this makes MS' hardware look inferior. Again, I don't know if MS had a hand in this. Wouldn't influencing Ubi to gimp the PS4 version be illegal somehow?

A part of me wouldn't doubt Ubi said this just to cover their own butts, so they don't have to put in the extra effort in the PS4 or both versions, with their COD-like release schedule for AC games maybe resulting in less time to optimize.

I grew up on Atari, so if the game was 720p it wouldn't matter to me if that's the game the dev wanted to make. But to intentionally hold a game back to avoid debates and in favor of the company you just happen to have a co-marketing deal with? I can't support that.
