Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

That game was specifically tailored to the PS2 hardware, it wasn't as simple as copying and pasting, so it suffered in the translation.

Working from the original textures would have made the game look better than the PS2 version without impacting performance. Unless you're trying to say that the indexed textures on PS2 were the originals. I find that highly unlikely.

Woah woah woah. Is this just a bad shot or is this representative? And if it's representative what the hell happened to this game?

It's a Ubisoft game. It'll look amazing during the reveal and press conference presentations but will never look like that on actual hardware, not even a PC at max.

this is a textbook definition of what ironic means lol, how the fuck is this a way to avoid a DEBATE? does the guy have a brain? the fact that the "technical" reason is 100% bullshit(CPU does not in any way limit resolution, every PC gamer knows this). if MS has anything to do with this i won't be buying this at all. if it was that good i will probably buy it used just to spit at ubisoft. their PR team is probably on full emergency lookdown to find a solution to this disaster.

Considering the amount of articles written about the lack of female playable characters, let's see how the press deals with handling this.

Now that is a politician's statement.

We understand how Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand's quotes have been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for Assassin's Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other.

Assassin's Creed Unity has been engineered from the ground up for next-generation consoles. Over the past 4 years, we have created Assassin's Creed Unity to attain the tremendous level of quality we have now achieved on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It's a process of building up toward our goals, not scaling down, and we're proud to say that we have reached those goals on all SKUs.

At no point did we decide to reduce the ambitions of any SKU. All benefited from the full dedication of all of our available optimization resources to help them reach the level of quality we have today with the core Assassin's Creed Unity experience.

Actually it was the home of the 6GB VRAM controversy, where we got dozens of meltdowns from some PC gamers thinking that their video cards were now "worthless". It also went through a bit of a console roller-coaster, where people were mocking the XBO version for being "720p30", based on some sort of vague information that the PS4 was expected to be 1080p60. It turned out that XBO was 900p30 and PS4 was 1080p30, so nearly everybody was wrong until we got our hands on the game.

Resolution/Framerate are the two PR hot button issues these days, and passions fly high in threads about them. I am looking forward to seeing how Ubisoft deals with the bad press they're getting now, but I suspect that what we're going to see is better effects on PS4 and slightly fewer framedrops (the GPU related ones; obviously if it's a CPU related drop it's not going to be affected at all).

Yeah but that is just people whipping themselves into a frenzy about stupid shit and rumours. Anyone who melts down over not being able to set their setting to maximum on every PC game probably needs to go talk to a mental health professional. The differences were so minor.

The DF face off regarding Shadows of Mordor was fairly tame for a DF faceoff thread was really the point I was making there. The actual end result, expectations aside were satisfactory to everyone involved outside of those usual 60FPS gripes. There was some of analysis in the thread breaking down what compromises were made between the versions of the game (LOD Distance, Foliage, Shadow Detail, etc) and nobody really got too bent out of shape. Everyone gets a version of the game that is pushing the small difference between these two machines. With this situation, the way they phrased this just invites the response they got.

Wasn't ubisoft bragging about this game being built from the ground up for next gen systems, yet they turn around and gimp it so that their partner Microsoft wouldn't get upset because the internet will point out that MS' version is inferior. They should of just built the damn game for the PS3/360 and ported it up to the ps4/xbone and pc.

I'll buy this game used from gamestop a week after its released.

The XBone has a 10% stronger CPU than the PS4 because of the clock frequency increase of the XBone but the PS4 has a 40% stronger GPU.
But I can't believe they can't reach 1080p on the PS4 if 900p possible on the XBone.
(900p to 1080p is 44% more pixel)

Already seeing apologists like jlepek call moneyhats insane.

Unless a source hands him something on a silver platter that guy is constantly clueless its kinda sad.

Saving the clicks.

UPDATE (7:15pm): And here's Ubisoft's statement:

If they were CPU bound, why talk about choosing parity? With both CPUs being roughly the same, it would make sense both are crippled to similar degrees.

Again, the CPU-bound comment was only meant to explain why they didn't target 60fps on either console. (To overly simplify it, their AI couldn't run at 60fps on the consoles, or at least so they claim.)

Man what the fuck is wrong with these companies. Still 900p/30fps. Someone ask them the point of having next gen system. 720p to 900p with 30 fps wtf seriously wtf

Oh boy...

At no point did we decide to reduce the ambitions of any SKU. All benefited from the full dedication of all of our available optimization resources to help them reach the level of quality we have today with the core Assassin's Creed Unity experience.

This sentence makes absolutely no sense given the power gap between the PS4 and Xbone. None at all.

Ubisoft - I didn't care about the female character stuff, in fact I even defended you on the issue. But this is a poor decision - I won't be buying your game, and I will be encouraging my friends not to either. We all spent $449 CA for the ability to play games with better graphics that ran at 1080p. If you want to make a product that intentionally doesn't meet those standards, don't expect my friends and I to show you any interest - it's only fair.

I got black flag with my 660 for free and I felt like I overpaid. I don't think I'll shed a tear over skipping Assassin's Creed unless they return to 2/Brotherhood quality anyway.

Patrick "I don't care about 1080p because I have a 720p TV" Klepek. If there's a corporation to side with, it's him.

I really liked 4 but I won't so much as look at this game now. This is some spectacular level bull shit.

Way to kick ps4 owners in the nuts.

People acting like this is just a resolution issue are not understanding why most are outraged. The outrage has nothing to do with resolution, the problem is the forced parity, it sets a terrible precedent that hopefully more developers do not follow.

They do understand imo, just being deliberately ignorant of the real issue, they game on the XB1 in a lot of cases if you do a post history check, so its not really effecting them negatively. No one would defend this in any way unless they have nothing to lose.

Statement is a typical PR statement but I still am struggling with the amount of people instantly jumping on the "MS paid for this" train based on complete conjecture.

That PR statement is all kinds of red herrings and non-statements.

I don't like it one bit. Ubisoft.....well, they're now on my very short list of developers to not purchase games from.

It's kind of a bummer that the issue that moved you more was the less important one :-/

Now its your job to press the matter and not accept such blatant PR trash that insults our intelligence.

They reached out for clarification but I have a feeling nothing will come of it.

If they were CPU bound, why talk about choosing parity? With both CPUs being roughly the same, it would make sense both are crippled to similar degrees.

$50 they're running their code on one core and Underutilizing the others while calling it a day. Its cheaper and easier, and they can find blame elsewhere while PCs can just brute force their way through it.

Cross game, last gen game design to a T. Ain't nobody got time for multi threading.

After that PR statement, I'm thinking that MS marketing the game has more to do with it then many suspect.

Meh. Don't believe the statement. If X1 could handle 900p/30 fps I would think PS4 could handle 1080p/30 fps.

So they're simply being lazy and pushing the PS4 for what it could so, or what was first said, they gimped the PS4 version to make Microsoft more happy.
