Looks like Driveclub PS+ Edition might not be coming today

This and Little Big Planet are the big PS4 games I was really looking forward to for 2014. I wasn't surprised this afternoon when it still wasn't up yet, knowing PSN, but the fact that it's not out today is a major bummer. I own all 3 consoles and don't defend either company when they disappoint me. The whole "servers are bad so it's not up yet thing" is just making excuses for them the way I see it.

Yes, I could go out and buy the full game but I thought the version they gave to PS+ owners was a perfect way to demo the game to see if it was as great as it looked in those trailers and GIFs I have seen.

Was studying and doing homework all afternoon/evening and was looking forward to this.

I'm pretty upset and the lack of communication sucks, reminds me of the start of the 2011 outage when they wouldn't say what was going on.

No, that's not what I mean. I mean you are not "paying" for them in any contractual sense. You can't say, "Where's my PS+ "free"/"paid for"/"obligated" game?" There isn't one, which is indicated in the ToS.

The money you pay for PS+ is pretty clearly "allocated" for a particular subset of services of which "free games" are not one. That's what I mean.

Going to have to disagree with you on this. The Drive Club Playstation Plus version has been a key feature of the service that was advertised for many months now and it helped convince many people to sign on. Just because the terms stipulate that you are paying for a service, doesn't mean that all expectations and promises that come with said service are thrown out the window.

The way Sony handles PSN (release times, etc...) has been my main problem with them since the PS4 was released. I love the system but they REALLY need to get better at this. They've fixed a lot since the PS3 but this whole ordeal is ridiculous.

They said it would be out with the other PS+ games and it isn't. That's wrong of them. Plain and simple. Be it that they are holding back until the server issues are resolved or whatever. Completely understandable problem but it's not out when it was advertised to be out.

I'm not sure if you knew this or not but it's honestly been this way since the PS3 first put up PSN. I remember this with every major downloadable game or demo the confusion and anger on the Playstation Official Forums (I think they were called Playstation Underground or something). The mods would up posting on EVRY Tuesday "guys it should update between 1pm and 6pm PST, don't worry". It's pretty annoying in many aspects.

These guys joke on the podcast how hard it to get a date or thing change last minute and it out of their hands.

Thats fine if you do have issues just let people know what's going on....

Just not saying anything leads people to believe you guys are clueless.
Even communicating with the public is a big deal, have to say the right thing and the message needs to be approved by an assload of people before it's sent out. Engineers need to alert PR, PR needs to speak with the engineers back and forth to make certain everything is clear and understood etc etc.

This is all very true, but, its now past midnight EST. Sid, who runs the social media team, is tweeting about playing Alien for 10 hours.

Edit: I realize that, by now, most of the social media team are off from work (maybe even for the whole day), but, someone was there while the store updated and still neglected to give us an update.

The PS Blog's store update article has over 600 comments and not one person from Sony has responded.

Seems real shady to me. They're doing a horrible of handling this situation. I'm getting flashbacks to that hacking scandal a few years back.

That's kinda below the belt. I'm not defending them but to bring up another instance where they were attacked and had their services taken down for a month and lost a LOT of revenue and got a lot of bad will from players as a result, is NOT fair... and that hacking paved the way for the free PS+ games we get now.

I don't think we'll get jack shit except for the free version of DriveClub when it's ready. Calm your tits. :-)

Honestly I don't think that there was conspiracy to this or they just said screw the PS+ version.. It's obvious that something unforeseeable happened and instead of adding more people to the problem (the free PS+ people) they are trying to fix the problem.

Not saying that them being kinda hush about it isn't wrong.. But am I outraged because it got delayed from a problem? No. Am I sad that I'm not playing it? Yes. I look forward to playing the game.

You're right. I wouldn't be bothered by the delay so much if a Sony representative would open up and explain what's happening. The fact that they remain silent on the issue is what's causing people to become enraged.

I don't care if I have to wait another day to play, but they need to improve their communications.

Really how I feel, too. I want to play it, but my life doesn't depend on it.

I bet Sony has NOBODY working on PSN right now, just to save costs.

Don't worry guys tomorrow morning they will realize there is a problem when people come in to work!

Sony doesn't need to take time out of working on the problem to announce "there is a problem" when it's obvious to everyone with half a brain that there's a problem... that's just silly.

So from the impressions I'm getting here, it seems the servers are not up and running for the main game right now.

So it is quite possible they don't want to put up the PS+ free edition until the server issues have been resolved. Yes it is a free version of the game to PS+ subscribers, but really the idea behind it is to let people get a taste and convince them to get the full version. So they want the absolute best representation of the game out there for these folks that are on the fence and hence they're not putting out the PS+ edition until the server issues are resolved

Now that that's out of the way, this has been handled very badly by Sony, Recently Driveclub has pretty much been included only in articles on the PS blog that are discussing a bunch of games releasing on certain dates, whereas other non-excllusive games are getting standalone articles. The server issues shouldn't have happened in the first place, and there should've been some sort of communication regarding the issues by now. Edit: Seems like I missed it.

If them taking 30 minutes to write a post telling us what specifically is going on is going to affect them fixing the problem, they have deeper issues. They should be able to turn a PR person loose on this while the tech guys get to work.

From other thread. Looks like they're looking into the server issues before putting up PS+ version. Check link Loudninja posted.

We are working round the clock (we're in the UK) to get to the bottom of why so many people can't connect.

We'll keep you updated on progress and also provide updates on the PS Plus Edition & companion app soon. We're sorry to keep you waiting.

PS+ version is done and is out in Hong Kong. I really can't think of any legitimate reason why it's not up in NA, unless localization was an issue and was done in Hong Kong first.

I do agree that this looks unprofessional because they should've known something was wrong in advance so PR should've been at the ready. Or maybe they were caught off guard.

Well I'm not saying that that version is not finished. As a legitimate question.. Was Hong Kong able to download first? Before everyone else?

Yes, lets not address a legitimate problem that is affecting millions of subscribers (which would be your loyal fan base), because they already know it's a problem. When PSN goes down why bother telling people too cause they already can see for themselves it is down right?

For a while when it was down in 2011 Sony wasn't saying crap, then they finally acknowledged it was down and it wasn't until way later that they revealed it was from hackers. Get this, during that month or so it was down they never gave updates on when it was coming back, so you would just have day to day confusion.

Gotta love the defense force.

OK I just got off the phone with JG Wentworth. After 30 minutes of explaining to them the situation, they concluded the PS+ edition is DLC to be released later

I immediately hung up the phone, I'm done trying.. bunch of imbacells.

I see, I was just trying to think of any reason why the game wouldn't be up (besides Sony forgetting about it).

I am unsure of the full game being up sooner in HK, but the Hong Kong PS+ version was up to download when the service updated for them Tuesday. Like I said, localization could be the reason but I would think the game is finished.

I know their servers are hammered and all, but others reasoning that that is why it isn't put up don't add up. All the PSN content is uploaded at the same time Tuesday and is given to the content programmers in advance. The game should have been set to go up with the other content, regardless of any issues that plagued the games servers, as it would be too late to pull it.

My dedicated team of Mr Meeseeks are also working on it so you should expect to see some progress in the next 12-14 weeks.

Anyone want to take a stab at this? Clicked purchase on Driveclub in the PSN store and got this:

"You are not able to purchase this product for the following reason(s):
You already own:
-Playstation Plus"

Read my posts from the last few pages.

Actually like on page 5 to 7

There are two full game purchase options. One for $59.99 which won't work if you have Plus and another at $49.99 just for Plus members. They do not want Plus members accidentally buying the wrong version.

I got that when I clicked on the season pass. I have no idea what it means.

Why isn't Yoshida commenting on this?

They guy's tweeting about Vib Ribbon lmao

At this point, I think it's pretty obvious they are pulling something here, and just trying to get away with saying nothing.

Considering the critical reception, I imagine they are worried about getting as many day 1 purchases as possible. It's pretty shady how they haven't even addressed it, and hugely disappointing. I was really looking forward to sitting down and having a great time with the PS+ version tonight.

According to "Sony Rep" as a mass of Twitch commenters are saying, the Ps+ Edition should hit at 12am PST. I don't really believe it, but I just thought I'd post that.

Lol, I have my sealed copy here and it's killing me that I have to wait till tomorrow to try the free version before I open/return the damn thing

The first rule of PS+ DriveClub. Dont tell anyone about PS+ DriveClub release time.

Edit that was funnier in my head.

You'll all have to pardon me when I say it is hard to be empathetic for the PS+ people when I'm missing half the game due to the clubs/online being completely down all day.

As soon as they fix it I'll totally understand where the rest of you are coming from. Deal?

Oh, no. I'm very well aware. I might not have been clear enough in my statement. I find it absolutely disappointing that Playstation has evolved so much since the PS3 but PSN is still such a clusterfuck in this manner, almost just as it was back then when it started. I don't see how anyone is defending this. Things happen, yes but they need to AT LEAST address this situation openly (and they sort of have by now).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not making phone calls or anything. I really don't care too much about this game. I already have the whole version (and it's by far nothing too special so far!) but this kind of mess has gone on for way too long. I love my PS4. I picked it over XBox One (as I could only afford one) because I liked that it was more powerful, Sony has a 1st party I usually prefer, and they had WAY better messaging leading up to release (they were better at BSing).

I just don't want them falling into old ways and have to sit here watching them get too comfortable. Sony is no angel (but MS has rubbed me the wrong way more often and in worse ways. It's a lesser of two evils thing for me but they definitely need to compete to keep things from becoming really bad for the consumers. You know, CORPORATIONS AND SUCH) and I don't like seeing that side peeking it's head out here. This particular PSN thing has been a long running problem that they really need to get a grip of and fix it ASAP.

Yeah it's really too much to ask for someone from Sony working in a different department to inform its customers what's going on with a game everyone's been anticipating.

Are you for real right now?

Same here man. Have had the copy for 12 hours now. I haven't opened my copy yet because I want to determine whether I want to get the digital version of the game and I'll only know that once I actually get to play a few races. Hence, waiting for the PS+ version.
