Fighting Games Weekly | Oct 13-19 | The World Ends Ryu

On the topic of shitty communities I used to play YGO and boy that was a mess. Never going back.

They JUST unbanned Raigeki, I'm done with this fucking series. Literally the only reason I gave Konami money in 2014.

I can do tuners, synchros, XYZs, but that fucking card....UGGGHHHHHHH

Fighting games have a "Your reactions must be X good to play competitively" bar that's going to exclude a lot of people by itself. It's one of the reasons growing the scene is really difficult.

That's always been a big issue for me. Also add in issues with muscle memory too. If I put down any non-Smash fighting game for an extended period of time I feel like I have to relearn a game to get to the "good" stage again. Not an issue with TCGs because you can always "train your mind" while doing anything else.
They literally complain about people jumping out of their chair when they just won a chance to play for 40,000 dollars being rude to the guy they beat.

Now think of all the things that fighting game players do when they just win any random match. Have you ever heard someone throw a fit because Justin Wong rolling on the floor after winning EVO was disrespectful to his opponent and it might make them feel a little sad?
Stop with those generalizations. Some dudes in Twitch chat/Twitter =/= all MTG community? Or are we going to pretend Aris' comments from Cross Assault = all FGC?

On the whole, you're not going to get abundant overflows of hype from TCG events. They happen (Lighting Helix in Honolulu, Nassif's called Cruel Ultimatum, Team USA getting blown out by Bonfire of the Damned, etc.) but the general atmosphere, issues with mental concentration (there's a reason people don't go nuts after every golf shot or chess move), etc. mean they will be less frequent. Loud and boisterous events also are likely less to appealing to wider audiences, including parents and kids, in the eyes of WOTC. I feel like you're comparing apples to oranges here. There are def other aspects of the MTG community that deserve critique but complaining about "lack of hype" in major events feels like your barking up the wrong tree.

Doesn't do anything to the decks that matter. But to the low lifes who play with inexpensive cards such as myself, it matters.

Fighting games- Has Cammy ever worn pants?

Was this IG's inspiration for Riptor?

REALLY?

Why the fuck did they unban that card? Its literilly a -1 for yourself for at most -5 for your opponent, fucking stupid...

LMAO no fucking way.

The most OP card is back in YGO? That's like unbanning ST Akuma.

thought exodia was the most op cards, unless the show lied to me

I know some cards must be getting ridiculous lately but even then who the hell thought "unban Raigeki" sounded anything like a good idea

wtffffffffffffffff

how do you unban raigeki

next you're going to tell me chaos emperor dragon is unbanned too

I imagine it's like sneaker heads who have their walls covered in shoe boxes.

LOL markman is both

legend

I remember my earliest days of playing yugioh competitively, raigeki and harpie's feather duster were banned from day one. Like... how do you even argue against the brokenness of those cards lol

I remember for a couple of months they unbanned dark hole and everyone was like FUCK THIS, and even that card is somewhat more balanced than raigeki (though I think chaos decks were the rage back then, so it was arguably even more useful than raigeki at that point). I forget if it ever got banned again.

Because power creep. If you use Raigeki against some of the newer decks you'll just be helping them out.

Fighting games- when is capcom cup?

Missed out on free trial I guess

but I had left over points from gundam DLC I didn't use so I just bought a month

Downloading demo.

Also does PSN+ online apply across regions? So if I have plus on my JP account will I be able to go online with my main?

If so I'm just gonna use the rest of this credit on a 3 month when the game actually drops to play since it's just sitting here

I did not expect the conversation that is currently prevalent in FGW, but DAMN did I get taken on a trip via Wayback Machine seeing the word Raigeki. That shit was SO DUMB.

If they're bringing the cheap shit back though, #FreeDarkMagicianofChaos Konami pls.

I actually enjoy the execution barrier for fighting games. I've recently changed my hold on my joystick and been training mode monstering it up in order to train my hands better. It's definitely not for everyone, though, and keeps a lot of players out.

ok this has been eating me inside and i just gotta let it out:

KI season 2 characters. i feel like they won't feel as polished as season 1.

T.J. Combo looks and moves very stiff. I don't know if this is indicative of how the new characters will behave but even the way they were revealed leaves much to be desired (silhouettes with shining eyes? a bit basic)

maybe im just being crazy and over thinking things

Crossposting from Smash thread:

Thoughts:

Scrubs complained about sword characters and now we all must live with the repercussions. I felt like I was high seeing the tipper streak land on characters when playing Marth a few days ago only to see nothing happen. Testing it in training mode revealed that the sword trail actually extends a bit past the max hit box range on his sword. As someone who lives and dies on following the trail animations, I thought this was the most fucked up shit anyone's done to any character in a fighting game. :lol

More like,

This is just...good.

As much as Brawl Metaknight is a horrible abomination that no person should have visited upon themselves, it's pretty much flunking game design 101 to have animations that are that jarringly dissonant.

What does Fighting-GAF think of the issue of janky animation/animation dissonance in games come to think of it?

Have you never seen an NRS discussion here before?

Actually, you're right. :lol

I'm just asking because I noticed that I don't think that I've ever played a fighter where animations don't follow their visuals to that extent.

Or at least I've never had the pleasure of playing characters in said games with those issues.

did everybody here play with yu gi oh cards? i liked the show but never bothered with the cards. my younger cousin was into it.

UNIEL's a good example of having sprites not matching their actual hitboxes. It doesn't bother me since in footsies, you already weave in and out of their range before the attack already comes out to whiff punish.

SF4 and SFXT had quite a bit of this too, but to a lesser extent.

never played it competitively but had an inner circle that was nuts with the game and its exploits. we would borrow decks and body randoms for their cards.
it was like that tournament kaiba held, your best card in your deck for grabs.
the game still has some broken stuff that makes xyz and tuners look like crap in my honest opinion. i even dueled a player who was able to get exodia on his first turn after using up half of his deck... pot of avarice is a real annoyance. i get into it every now and then but its not really my thing as it once was.

I played a dude in tournament with a dragon draw exodia deck. Shit made me so mad

I think the last MtG player I was ever excited for was Mike Long. His exploits were legendary, for right and wrong reasons.

And I think I already told the story about my friend's perfect Last Turn deck, right? Can't remember.

RE: Metaknight

I only really feel the nerf for dsmash, and the slower attack for bair. The range nerf for fair/bair doesn't really bother me while actually playing.
