I'm at the beginning of chapter 4 in Danganronpa. It's my GOTY thus far I'd say, but nobody told me it would be this twisted and nasty. I wasn't prepared.
So I started playing SAO. I am literally at the very beginning. He are my initial impressions.
Why the hell do you have a custom character and even a custom name when it changes back to Kirito during any cutscene? Not to mention the weirdness a different voice on the gameplay gives.
Lots of clutter on the screen and I don't even know what's what. It's all very complicated. Tutorial is bare bones. How can I switch when I don't even know what button to press?
Also what's the story? Are they in SAO after they got out or they didn't really get out?
Can someone please link the OT. I'm hoping to find my answers there.

For your first point, the game gives you the option to re-name Krtio and change his voice for, what I think, to mess around with the custom character option (as you can make him use other weapons/gear that he doesn't use in the anime/light novels).
The 'clutter' is all important . The bars are simple to understand (green = health, icons above/next to Kritio's name are de-buffs/buffs activated/status effects, yellow = burst meeter, which allows you to preform stronger melee attacks and dash, blue = SP Meeter (REALLY important; manages what Sword Skills aka special attacks/buffs you can preform))
Just visit the OT, it will really help you with the game man . The game really doesn't tell you much sadly (though it can largely be due to the iffy translation for the NA/EU versions)
The story takes places after episode 14 of the anime
where Kirtio defeats Heafcliff, the creator of SAO
. Instead of going back to the real world and the second half of the season starting
just don't watch it.....if you like the characters, it is horrible X(
, they are stuck in the game still and have to progress to the 100th floor to really get out of the game.
The reason Leafa and Sinion are in the game are for unique reasons; the former entered it to be with her brother using a NerveGear she got from a friend and the latter entered the game due to a glitch happening while she was in VR therapy (explained better during the event that happens in)
.
Phila is 'stuck' in the Hallow Area for important reasons.
Due to the battle between Kirto and Heathclif glitching out, it created a bug that warped Phila into a hidden area of SAO where AI versions of players roam. She bumps into the AI version of her character and is forced to take it out, but the system registers the AI as a 'real' player, so she is labeled yellow (the 'sign' of a killer). Because the AI is killed, the system thinks SHE is the AI, leaving her stuck in the Hallow Area.
If it's anything like the Japanese version you're actually faced with the 'S' from the logo and not in fact another 'anime girl face' to grace the collection.

Wow, NepReb story bosses and save point placements are so dumb. I face three bosses in a row during chapter 2, lose to the third and lose one hour of gameplay. This is not how you do it, Compile Heart.

Take it easy, and go beat optional dungeon before tackling on main story one. I know it's not a good design, but we can go around that. Also, buy Life Ring for everyone, since your heal spells are percentage based.
I'm really curious about this game. Can anyone recommend it? I can't even really tell what genre it is. Survival horror?
I read back and saw it isn't cross-buy - I didn't realize it was even available on the Vita - It is, right? If I grab it, that would be the preferred platform.

Blasting through Natural Doctrine again on easy (second playthrough is slightly different -- but I'm only doing it for some trophies). And wow, easy is easy coming from lethal. Lethal essentially requires solid tactics and only minor mistakes in planning your turn (on some harder missions, no mistakes), but easy is, well, a cakewalk. I think I'd have to completely skip a turn or two to die.
I'm sad I've beat the game and likely will never get another similar experience on Vita. Such innovative combat design, it really didn't deserve the death it got. I think too many reviewers balked at the link/chain system and didn't ever grok it, because once you do it's a very, very, strong system (I can't even think of a game that measures up).
My only true complaint about the game is that I wish it had a ng+ mode where you kept your stats and weapons, and the difficultly and lewt was amped up. But I suppose that would have required a lot more time spent balancing missions, and I do feel like there was a lot of content to begin with. I just want more.
ND really is the tactical experience I had always wished VC was. Sure, VC had far better graphics and story, but it was always broken in the tactics department.
About to dig into the multiplayer, I have high hopes for it.

I think you've already unlocked Avenir Storage No.3, right? Try to pass the plan "Add Enemy: On" at that dungeon, and there will be a whale there. They give pretty great exp at the beginning, and tried to grind all of your main party to level 25 at least (it won't take long) to unlock EXE moves. After that the main story boss won't be a problem.
The game doesn't have good pacing and it sometimes feels like optional dungeon isn't optional at all. That's one of the shortcomings but if you managed pass that one, it becomes much more enjoyable. Remember to always save at every chance you could.
Did you buy Plutia, though? She's one of the reason I breezed through the early content of the game
So many smaller/downloadable Games announced... I hope some of them drop soon, Planetside 2 for example. And i almost forgot about Secret Ponchos, damn, wasn't that supposed to be Ps+ Game for April?

It's cross buy but only PS3 and PS Vita. I'd recommend on Vita BUT only with headphones and in the dark (yes yes mura effect bitchbitchbitch). It's a really interesting psychological horror game, feels a lot like a 2D Pixelart silent hill. Has multiple endings (a good/bad end and some more interesting ones), a fair bit of optional content, and you can sneak past or kill almost everything, so there's some decent replayability.
It's not without it's faults, but if you like Silent Hill type horror you should like it. It's particularly impressive the amount of atmosphere they manage to create considering the pixelart (the far-higher res screen noise effect helps though). Great sound effects too. I made a let's play but wouldn't actually recommend watching it if you actually plan to try it, spoilers are killer in horror games of course.
