Fighting Games Weekly | Oct 27-Nov 2 | A Lot Of Shit Went Down

I don't think there's any point to a Tekken 7 exhibition unless they have some kind of console exclusive thing to show off.. which is not gonna happen considering Tekken will have at least around a year of arcade exclusivity making it WAY too early to show off something that arcade goers who spend 100's to 1000's on the game won't receive.

By July T7 will have been out in Japan/Korea/Rest of Pacific for almost 5 months. If people watching EVO wanted to see some cool T7 matches, they'd just tune into the daily Green Arcade streams.

Also, there may be a chance places in North America like Round 1 Arcade will get Tekken 7. Hence people who live in California and Illinois can officially be already playing T7 around February/March. In that scenario EVO may just even bring in the T7 arcade cab to the place and hold a player cap side tournament for it and just have the top 4 streamed or something.

They had arcade exhibits at EVO before man.

They immediately put Alex Valle vs Daigo Umehara on stream, a match in losers, even though they were only putting winners bracket matches on the main stage.

and then they ignore John Choi vs Daigo even though its later in the tournament. Dat SoCal bias

Very likely that they were out of winner's matches that were notable to run then? I was there but I don't know the exact situation with what matches were in the queue.

The major issue with expanding streams is: who's going to be doing the streaming? I'll freely admit my ignorance regarding the streaming scene, but there doesn't seem to be that many folks with the equipment who are reliable/highly regarded who can pull it off. And having seen a few streaming set-ups; that's a lot of shit to be lugging around. Also, can people do simultaneous streams, or is it one stream per set-up?

And don't forget that SOMEONE has to be there monitoring the equipment at all times. I wanted to kill myself after babysitting our booth at EVO for 14 hours, and I got to wander around periodically. I couldn't imagine someone like Spooky sitting there for possibly longer each day doing nothing but making sure nothing drops.

There are a bunch of other things to think about (determining which pools play on stream, when to cut in/out, etc).

As for games, outside of ours (duh...) I'd love to see Skullgirls and DOA get more love. Especially Skullgirls; it's a good game (provided you get folks who can penetrate the Peacock Wall of Bullshit(tm)).

As for DOA, it's just a lot of fun.

evo lineup seems pretty good for marvel, sf, melee and xrd. im pretty sure the fans are gonna want melee in for this year's evo, its been hype in many tournaments throughout the year, however, nintendo might have a say on this THIS time around to promote the new smash game but whoknows.gif

They can easily do 3 streams if they have it.

Sp00ky and Slash5150 have been holding it down the last two years so there's 2 streams already. Then you have Arturo, Haunts, Honzo, etc that can do something/help out if necessary from there. The issue is whether they want to do 3 streams or not, I think.

I bet Enzo is still reading this thread.

Forgettaboutit.

Getting more exposure for smaller games would be cool, but I guess most people tune in too stream monster their favorite game anyway so it might not matter?
idk, especially with an event with the prestige that EVO has you get a lot of people not otherwise interested in fight games watching. By default they're going to tune in to the main stream regardless of what's happening elsewhere.

Madcatz had a stream with some top 8s/4s of non official games at least. I remember P4A, SC2/V and SG being there along with the Tekken Exhibition.

Checked Leffen's twitter because I was backtracking through some RTs. Leffen having shots fired against Curse and Liquid for their choices in who they sponsored. Leffen vs ChillinDude might happen.

Leffen would probably have a sponsor already if his attitude wasn't so terrible lol

Melee being in over Smash 4 as a main game would be a really bad look for the scene.

For the big streams they usually can do what they want provided they have the space. The real problem a lot of people from the smaller scenes have is trying to get pools or other things streamed and then running into internet issues. Evo is cool and says if you wanna show up and stream something like that you can, but it's been a nightmare of 4G and other issues the past couple years. I mean we didn't even know if we'd get to see BB pools at all this year, same with P4 the year before.

yea I remember jyosua had issues with 4g right when guilty gear started at evo. I remember he did a test stream fine like a day before too lol. I really wanted to watch that too :(

A TN barcade accidentally acquired a Rainbow Edition board, and it is probably the main reason I want to go there.

I don't think it'd be a bad look at all lol

You wish.

People are gonna be mad for sure, but there's more merit in letting Smash 4 prove it's a better test of valuable fighting game skills than Melee before they decide to replace it, rather than simply replacing it just because Smash 4 is newer. Brawl had already taught the community this lesson, but I expect the scene to succumb to whines of newer players desperate for their chance to compete in a new game, regardless, if both games aren't supported at the event.

so if chris g does not win next year does it become kinda meaningless if he wins it the year after that? that is if marvel even makes it to the 2016 evo. kinda like how sanford won mvc2 after justin already moved on to other games. marvel is going to be kinda dead by then. at the very least most of the big names will most likely be committed to other games and only play marvel at majors for the hell of it.

It'd be nice if both Smash games got in. But if it was a choice between the two, I'd go with Smash 4.
i'm hoping both games make it in. hell make melee the saturday night main event and guarantee yourself 2 days of +100k stream viewers for the weekend. smash 4 should be the game that gets sunday night at least for its first evo.

idk, people have been playing more diverse teams in top 8 this year than last year. ive been seeing more dante, hulk, viper, etc. Obviously Doom is the one character on everyone's A and B teams.

"Hey we spent all this time balancing for competitive play and would like for you to try it out!"

*Community sticks with Melee despite this*

"...Sakurai was Right"

As long as Marvel 3 is at EVO it would be a significant win. Sanford winning MVC2 at EVO was also significant.

Marvel would still be at EVO 2016 though.

I know a lot of people here aren't familiar with the Alpha games (too anime), but here's a fun video of how broken Guy was in the first Alpha game. With all this and pairing with with Auto so you can automatically block stuff, he could get pretty dumb.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Bhe8ZYn2M

Well the first Alpha game was pretty broken all around, but wow this makes Guy look pretty horrible in every other iteration by comparison D:

Hard to blame them for not showing Daigo Vs Choi on stream.

Easy to blame them for not showing the Daigo/Latif 2012 runback and a lot of other shit on stream.

I assume they showed Daigo vs. Valle on stream because after Daigo lost to FChamp, they thought "Oh shit, Daigo could actually lose against Valle. If we don't get him on stream right now, he may not be on stream at all this Evo."

As for why they didn't show Daigo vs. John Choi, well, I assume they didn't want to go back and show another losers match, despite the big names involved. (There were plenty of good players still in winners bracket.) Also, I bet they may have been thinking about the last time the two of them met at Evo. (Completely different version of the game, but still.)

Right now Marvel 3 is dry as hell, but come EVO it will still have the 2nd most entrants and an amazing top 8, and it will still be a significant win regardless because EVO is the biggest stage for fighting games.

I'm still waiting to see the reception for the console version before deciding which Smash game should be at EVO. Maybe EVO decides to go with two Smash games now that they have two ballrooms to work with, but why choose Melee over Smash 4 when Smash 4 will be new and not have the logistical issues to deal with that Melee does with trying to depend on other people to bring old consoles and bulky CRTs with them to Vegas. Plus Nintendo will be trying to push Smash 4 to sell new hardware and games to people.
