Fighting Games Weekly | Oct 27-Nov 2 | A Lot Of Shit Went Down

This is why I want full customs to die. They utterly kill a game's aesthetic value because people will end up making horrible abominations.
Some are horrible abomination on purpose, which goes way beyond just bad aesthetics, they're meant to distract/hide certain things. Such a stupid design decision.

I don't think it should be removed outright, but limited. I had a lot of fun with Tekken's costume editor.

Some are horrible abomination on purpose, which goes way behind just bad aesthetics, they're meant to distract/hide certain things. Such a stupid design decision.

It was so obvious with those costumes that used butterfly wings.

The premise of customization is cool. It's just unfortunate that TTT2's customs are unbelievably obnoxious.

VF5 and Tekken 6 are customs done right. But Tekken 6 still had the obnoxious Auras. Tekken Tag 2 brought those Auras back but then went overboard with all these stupid wings, batons, sushi grills, giant clocks, 5x6ft mallets among so many other things.

I don't mind hair, skin colors and a nice collection of costumes, just not the ugly stuff.

Looks like it's flapping butterfly time. <3

Man Only Practice is trying some shit.... what is this 1,4 with Lars as a Tag Assault....

But wow his execution is unparalleled.

You're telling me all the glowy accessories and that thing that keeps saying things in a high-pitched voice are a-ok?

I want attractive customization, but not football helmets and clown shoes unless I'm playing Doink or Johnny Maximum.

Customization should fit the game.

I got no problem with Soul Calibur chars looking like they came from Final Fantasy XIV, but I wouldn't want that in Tekken or VF. Ivy doesn't need to dress like a raver.

I don't think those are messed up at all, they are just silly optional things.

This is why I want full customs to die. They utterly kill a game's aesthetic value because people will end up making horrible abominations.

I don't think they should take away cool thing like that , customization is fun. Sucks for you I guess.

I love customization. I think i easily filled all my slots for it in SC5.

There just needs to be a way to turn it off for your opponent if he's trying to do dirty or annoying stuff with it, like hide his moves. And i don't see why it's allowed in a tournament.

Like if you wanna make your character look stupid, you should be able to make your character look stupid.

You can't be like " you can't make your character look stupid like in the other games because some people on gaf said you should only able to make your character look cool because it fits the aesthetic of the game "

Normal person playing tekken: " the fuck do I give about an aesthetic "

Keep customization... but get rid of the obnoxious ones that completely ruin the aesthetics.

No, keep all of them.

You just deal with it , like with games with customization.

I'm just glad that shit hasn't made its way to 2D games

Even with alot of the high profile ones adopting 3D models

but yeah that's been a huge problem with me and tekken since 5. Sometimes you can't even tell what character you're fighting until they do a move

The problem with people having the option to make their character look "stupid" is that most trend towards that option, ultimately, and that ruins the aesthetic value of the game, as Coffeeling said.

It's more so a problem for someone like me, who finds the base character designs largely non-stimulating already.

Figured a Namco sanctioned tournament would be the perfect event to see it dialed down, but it's the worst I've ever seen, here. But I guess you could make a case for the opposite, too.

*edit*

I thought Japan wasn't hype. These Tekken cats seem pretty energetic to me.

It doesn't need to. Those Udon summer costumes look ugly as hell. Pretty much every time I see one I haven't seen yet I'm surprised at just how ass they are.

Yep, that shit already made its way into 2D fighters:

Oh Man Furumizu HAD THAT. d/b+4,4 wall splatted, and he prematurely pressed tag instead of waiting for the bound move to come out first. That game winning combo drop and then he risked it with the knockdown low. Jungdding blocked and won after that. Up to Take now.

BTW Junggding who just OVD'd Japan used eddy and his outfit was this:

Eddy is a Brazillian capoeira fighter wearing:

-a Knight's helm
-an Aviator jacket with Fur collars
-Denim faded jeans
-Tonfas attached on both arms
-A shield with the emblem of a lion on it
-Every color on his outfit black
-and a Blue aura glowing out of him

And you see this insane contraption of a human being doing all these flips and kicks and it just looks extremely retarded in the end.

You spend all those millions and millions of dollars making a great graphics engine, amazing backgrounds and environments, but you might as well ruin everything with these putrid customization items you've set in stone.

Look at VF5 FS and even T6, it's way better and had MORE options than TTT2 while still being infinitely less ostentatiously ugly.

Thats neat, how does that justify taking other peoples fun away who like that thing?

To be honest, I thought of Pokken fighters because it was a thing:

Customisation is awesome

Also, let's not question the design of a flying devil man with tribal tattoos firing laser beams from his forehead.

Exactly. Why don't TO's make a rule of not having distracting cosutmes in? Then I can play with sunflowers on the stage while tournament players can use less distracting costumes.

Sure if Tekken wants to appeal to people that like epileptic colored clothings and a mishmash of ridiculously proportion items with no context to the actual character that's fine... but this isn't the market that Tekken has been known to be catering to with how it was presented from Tekken 3 - Tekken 5. And if they do continue to go that route then those same people aren't going to be interested in Tekken going forward.

Like I said earlier, you can still do customization without alienating normal people that like well designed contextual outfits. Tekken 6 and Virtua Fighter 5:FS did this really well. Each character had items that were designed to complement the character. Now in Tekken Tag 2 you just give everyone a bunch of Tron shields, paintball guns, magic wands to turn people into stuffed animals, light sabers, and so much crap that no longer represents anything that can even remotely be considered good character design. And then you exacerbate everything but making them glow all neon, red or black or even multiple colors that just seems like vomit covering every character.

Like WTF is this stupid wing supposed to be?

Why the F would any character in the Tekken universe glue that on their back???

None of those outfits you made are oboxious. I don't see glowing aura emanating from either of them. I don't see random sushi grills pasted on their backs. I don't see this 3 ft wide and 4 ft long battery pack with PS1 textures glued to their clothes. The customs you made is like T6 or VF5 and I'm OK with that.

And as for your Devil Jin example, sure give DEVIL JIN customs that are supernatural. Why the hell should I see Nina get butterfly wings as well now? That has nothing to do with her character.

I hate all the silly customizations in 3D games as well. Mostly the items that obscure things and the dumb glowing auras and all that.

I would say just have an option to turn it off so i cant see them on my opponent online. Then though, i do like seeing some variety in costume pieces and colors of default costumes.

I just wish they would take out all the dumb stuff and have more in character specific pieces.

But thats not gonna happen, so give me an option to turn it off online. :)

Gong back to Bumblebee's post, I'm not against customs and when done right they're pretty cool. It's the accessory overload that kills it. And even if you look at all the great customs in TTT2:

Those are all really well done because of the Decal customize system. And NONE of them have those stupid auras and glowing outlines on them that plagued the Mastercup stream. What I want eliminated are those ones that don't contribute to anything. Just look at the massive list of Aura's and accessories that legitimately serve no purpose and will never contribute to cool designs like seen above. Again keep the decal system because those are legitimately well done:

But alas, that one good thing might end up getting removed for the idiots that like to abuse it:

I must be playing and watching a different VF5 cause I see plenty of stupid looking customizations in that game.

Sure there are stupid ones... but they're not as retarded as unbelievably retarded Tag2's. At least from what I've seen.

EDIT: Thinking about it more, the decal system really was only ever used to make Tekken characters cosplay as others, there really aren't very many good original designs out there... and that's one thing that Tekken is really starving for ever since it stopped innovating its character designs after T5.

I wonder why LoL players retire so young

i'm watching TheOddONe stream right now and it says on his page he is 25 and retired already.... what?

it is so weird seeing shit like that when the FGC has people anywhere from early teens to 35+ yos
Life gets in the way. Those guys have insane schedules- FGC/MTG have more weekend warrior friendly ones.

This look like anything Goh would wear? https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=CakjWulogoo#t=638

Put customization like that in any game and the first thing people will do is recreate characters from other games, movies e.t.c.

I hope anime games continue to just give a bunch of alt color schemes forever

Looking at the hud would probably solve that problem

I was half kidding

but IIRC in Tekken 5, and maybe 6 there were no character portraits and names were replaced with player handles so lol
