Vanilla marvel just needed to make xf slightly more visible and get rid of the magic pixel life bar stuff and the UI would've been perfect.
 
I am going to have to hold my tongue on this new CM guy for a few months to see how he does, but I have to admit I would not have picked someone totally unknown to represent Capcom's FG titles in Europe. Dawgtanian was a known WSO guy. This guy replacing him's main qualification is having worked at Eurogamer, with a side of his Twitter handle being SF themed.

Hrm. Disgruntled.

From what I can tell by being interviewed for the job too, the CM job also has a PR part of work to do like Killian did at the time when he was answering questions about the series or explaining the game. I work in the press too but I focused a bit more my presentation on the community aspect of things. Maybe what Capcom wanted before a community guy was a well knowed face for the UK press, since most of the presentations of the next game will probably be held in the UK?

Anyway good luck to him, he seems like a nice guy. :)
 
It's a PR job, you want a PR person. Also Capcom is more than just SF.

It's common for companies to want to hire game journos for PR, and game journos enjoy the pay increase.

Sounds like nonsense to me. You can see the UI art assets stay the same but the detail in the 3D models increases between the two. The real thing to note here is that the game was made with 720p console resolution in mind so not everything is going to look incredibly better just because you bump the resolution up. Art assets are what they are.

I'd be very surprised if that was the case, though I suppose I haven't played enough SF4 on PC to really be sure. Stuff not running in native resolution on a monitor is really obvious, almost as obvious as 30/60 fps.

Ageed with alstein, while being well known in the community is an initial boon, that doesn't guarantee that they'll be good at performing the duites of a community manager. There's a lot of work that goes into it other than being well known, and if he does his job correctly, he'll become well known/liked fairly soon.

I believe that the magic pixel is something that should absolutely stay there. The mechanic fits well with Marvel, IMO.

Deadendthrills is a great site.

That aside, FGs require a stable frame rate as there's a ton of timing that's dependent on not dropping inputs on very specific frames.

So basically, anything that ensures 60fps is going to be done (the norm for most FGs, a recent notable exception being JoJo's Bizzarre Adventure which is 30fps).

Great post, I showed it to him. So yeah, 4k would be nice.
 
I am the culprit behind that whole upscaling thing on Twitter. Clearly it's rendering at 1080p in that screenshot, so I guess my 720p thing was a faulty memory. However, I certainly can't get the game to render at 4K or above without some scaling going on. Anyone care to check? Would be great if it was just something I'm doing wrong.
 
But CvS2 UI is one of the best. It works because the game's entire presentation though, putting similar looking health bars and some yellow squares in SFIV is doing it a disservice.

Yeah, I like the UI in CVS2, but not porting it over to SFIV -- it doesn't fit.

Can't disagree with this. This is pretty much my ranking for it.
 
Just to be clear, grumpy 1am Huw_Dawson is not the same person as day-to-day sensible Huw_Dawson. I can respect Capcom's decision. If the dude gets integrated quickly into the active FGC and does his job well, that is all that matters in the end.
 
i'm going to celebrate my big entrance into the big 3-0 with some virgin pina colada and some sangria.

as my fighting game skill start to decline due to age, i have wider range of excuses for my blowups.

as an older and much wiser player now, I'm also looking more into 3D fighters since they are a mature genre for mature players such as myself.

truly a turning point!
