Alright here it goes, sorry if this is unorganized but I'm in a bit of a rush atm.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is probably one of the greatest cartoons that I've ever watched. Everything from the story to the characters was just incredible, even episodes that can be considered filler (The Tales of Ba Sing Se) were always interesting to watch.
When I first started watching I expected that characters who were non-benders, like Sokka, would get the short end of the stick when it came to character development, but I was surprised to find that Sokka was one of the most well developed characters in the whole show. Even characters who didn't get much screen time throughout the whole show, like Ty Lee and Mai had good development.
I think where the writing and character development truly shines though is through Zuko. Throughout the first three seasons, I thought he was the the biggest dick in the whole show, but then I got hyped as fuck when he turned good. Something like that is a huge change for a character, and I think that if it's one thing that they got spot on in Last Airbender, it was Zuko's transition from evil to good.
Speaking of Evil, Ozai was a great villain. He kind of reminded me of the emperor from Star Wars, an everpresent and unseen threat throughout most of the series until the final battle. I could also kind of hear a bit of Mark Hamill's Joker in there whenever he got really pissed.
Toph was easily my favourite character. She was hilarious, badass, and didn't take shit from anyone. On top of that, just when I thought bending was specifically resitricted to the four elements, she goes and invents fuckin metal bending. We can see how this affected LoK, but I like that one little possibility like that opened up a whole avenue of worldbuilding for the writers (blood bending, lightning, lava bending, etc).
Iroh was my second favourite character. He seemed to be the Mr. Miyagi figure of the show; he was always so wise and helpful to Zuko, but then when shit gets rough he ain't afraid to unleash the motherfucking Dragon of the West.
Once I saw the episode with the giant drill, I knew that this series was starting to gear towards a steampunk theme, something that is almost never explored in modern shows, so I'm really glad that there's a popular steampunk show that exists.
Overall, I thought the general direction of the story was great. It was a single quest with great buildup to the final battle, and best of all it wasn't afriad to explore themes of war, death, and spirituality. It was able to present characters who were not only likeable, but were characterized as humans rather than an archetypal heroes. Everyone, Aang, had strengths and weaknesses that we all face at least once in our lives.
Kudos to the creators and writers of Last Airbender, 9/10.
Then I started to watch Legend of Korra.
Hoo boy, I'm liking Legend of Korra so far, but it is definitely weaker than Last Airbender. I'll make a post about that another time though.

Yeah, it's too bad they couldn't keep it going.
On rewatching ATLA the best thing about it is how they integrated basic science lessons, forgotten concepts like sun/moon cycles/eclipes, and great original music. I also love how disabled characters and lovable villans perfectly into the mix.
Korra was only supposed to have 1 season and they extended it into 3, so I guess it's as good as it gets for a rom-com teen movie.

Don't skip book 2. Give it a chance, and you don't like it, watch beginnings and on from there or something. The first half is garbage but the some stuff in the second half is kind of important
Lol mediocre is generous.
My perspective of Spirits is on the other side of seeing the end of Naruto. Spirits is bad relative to the rest of the franchise. And it still had some good to it. In the context of its competition outside of its own franchise, Spirits is relatively competent.
It's definitely the nadir of the franchise. but it's not all that bad, considering.

Oh I'm caught up to the latest episode, I've seen Book 2. Beginnings is the only saving grace and the final battle was neat. Book two is easily the worst so far though.
She going Super Saiyan 3.

Hahaha yeah you won't get any arguments about that. Good thing Book 3 was fantastic.

Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but it just didn't seem as good when compared to Aang at the end of Book 1 of Last Airbender. She should have had some cool design instead of being Niceklodeon's version of Jet Jaguar.
