I was very negative earlier but I have to say, I think the graphics are kinda okay actually. The atmosphere is pretty good and camera doesn't seem like it's Sonic 06 kinds of bad at least.

Dialogue is passable for me. It's Saturday Cartoon stuff but that has its charm and I didn't expect anything else.

I dunno. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it looked like from those E3 previews, although some moments did look mediocre but then others looked interesting enough.

Might consider getting it if the reviews don't claim it to be complete shit.

Okay, I was a bit off. $19.9 million budget and a 34 month development cycle.

What? Was foul play involved?

I think that budget you listed was for EVERYTHING regarding Sonic Boom; the cartoon, the merchandise, the 3DS AND Wii U game, ect. The thing is, that budget was not spread so equally (with the show and the merchandise getting the bulk of the budget)....leaving the Wii U game looking, well...how it is looking :l. The 3DS game doesn't look amazing either but it is a 2.5D game and it is being made by Sanzaru, so it should turn out well :D.

I have to agree to an extent :); it really doesn't look that bad. The visuals remind me a lot of Jak and Daxter (the world design, the texture-look (it has that 'PS1-PS2 Platformer look'; very nostalgic), the animations look very good (though there ARE Pixar/DreamWorks animators at BRB, so that is expected :D), and the core platforming seems to be fun, abet not Sonic like.

Again, the issue of this game isn't that it is 'bad', but more so it not looking like past Sonic tittles. The 'Sonic' brand is going to hurt this game more then it should :(; everyone expecting a fast Sonic tittle but instead getting a more exploration-based game.

The only positive is they made Amy a strong female character.

In the past games, she always felt useless or too dependent on Sonic.
Now she's some typical cartoon ditz. How empowering.
Sonic forever taking them

DEAD
Something that's always bothered me about 3D Sonic games: why is it so common for racing games to deliver smooth control at high speed, while the Sonic games always seem like a twitchy, hair-trigger mess in the same circumstances?
? You might want to play Unleashed, Colors, and Generations.

-----------------------
This game looks like they blew the budget and production on building Metal Sonic.

So, this is one of those "Main character is shown falling to his death, then the rest of the story is told in Flashback mode" things?

Yeah... I'm out.

Above tweak is good, but really...

Needs a simple "Nope." as he walks away.

XD! Gotta love how he's like "....So, that's it? Welp..." and then just walks away; gold right their XD.

He looks so uninspired here too; rather then a 'darker' looking Sonic with his own look, Shadow looks almost 1-to-1 like Sonic in this game. Don't know if that was a design choice or BRB being lazy....

Would reactions to this be more positive if it were a new Jak game, or a new IP? Performance issues aside, it seems like a lot of people are taking issue with how un-Sonic like the game seems to be.

I would have been 100% behind a bigger and better version of Sonic Colors 2.
-major online coop & competitive mode
-replay saving and sharing for time attack leaderboards
-even better level design (not just in action/obstacles, but tiered exploration and alternative routes) and power-up design/applications to obstacles
-soundtrack quality maintained
-some golden Gamepad use (lots of stat feeding, quick menu/stage hopping, etc.)
-surprisingly big graphical leap over Colors (which was already great looking)

just a bigger and better package that would have made it a serious contender for best 2D Sonic of all time by far...

If this was a new Jak game, it would probably kill the franchise. (Well, if it wasn't dead already)

Cryengine always worked on the Wii U. It was confirmed before the system even came out. It was at E3 as I recall.

There's a big difference between Crytek saying "it works on Wii U!" and a developer actually developing an entire game using it. You do not want to be the first people to use an engine API that has never before been used external to the engine's creators. And we're not talking about a mature engine that was built from the ground up for Wii U - this is something that was likely adapted quickly based on the Wii U's specs and little else.

I think that if this game was a new Jak game or IP....it would have been looked at much more favored I think :l. The expectation of this being a new Sonic tittle really hurts this game (as it is so....un-Sonic like), so it being something new or in a IP that fits the gameplay (Jak and Daxter in this example) might have been a smarter choice :).

Either way, the reason it looks so....iffy right now is from the Co-Op straining the Wii U; we need to see single-player gameplay to properly judge the visuals/performance for this game. If it still runs like this though.....man, that would suck :(.

Aw shit...I'd rather play the unfinished builds of Sonic Xtreme once they get released. Only if this games reaches 2006's low bar will I pay attention to the LPs and streams. I hope Sonic Team's next game can help everyone forget this rotten mess.

A cutscene is the least of the games problems, come on.

Oh, was the sarcasm not obvious? Oops

Hard to say if people would be paying attention to this at all if it wasn't Sonic. I suppose Knack has a bit of a following now though.

I don't know, honestly. I sure hope not.

It has a 3DS version which will probably skew things in Sonic's favor. If we're talking just Wii U then I sincerely hope it doesn't but who knows. Do we even have updated figures on Tropical Freeze?

They said taking Sonic Team off the franchise was a good idea though...

Cause apparently after having two polished and great platformers in Colors and Generations wasn't enough.

I just want Wii U to have ONE good Sonic game, I don't think that's too much to ask.

Sochi and ASRT were great, but they aren't Sonic-only Sonic games. Lost World... don't get me started on Lost World, I hate that piece of shit. Easily the worst or 2nd worst 3D Sonic. I know the opinion of LW is mixed within the community though.

Well, Genesis/Mega Drive support will most likely come to the Wii U VC at some point in time, so there's that!

(I know that's not what you meant.)

But they're still making Sonic games, unless I've missed a piece of news.

I think what he means is that getting Sonic Team off of the IP and getting anybody else will do well.

We have Sonic Chronicles and both Sonic Boom games to prove this is not the case. In fact, all are examples of how worse it can get without Sonic Team as the core developer.

I don't understand who is excited for sonic games anymore.

I mean, after it comes out and Gaf says it's actually good this time I'll check them out, but who is excited beforehand?

Knew this was gonna be shit since BRB revealed the designs.

I have faith in the Unleashed/Generations team though, the game they're working on will probably be announced after Sonic Boom is out of the way.
