Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

At work so I can't check out all of these reviews and while I don't expect it to be a return to form from Origins is it at least a hell of a lot better than 2?

These high reviews got me so goddamn excited even though I don't own a next gen console :(

Whelp, I'm sold. I was teetering on the fence about this game for a long time. I liked Origins, never played Dragon Age 2 and the only other thing from Bioware that I've really enjoyed was Mass Effect, which still reigns as one of my favorite series ever.

Still, having heard of the disaster that was DA2 and watching this game get continually delayed, my faith in Inquisition being any good gradually waned, to the point where it became a big "wait and see".

Well, I've waited and what I've seen now is very, very encouraging. Preordered it today on PS4... in hope that the patch that's supposed to drop pre-day one actually fixes all of its problems!

I don't normally play RPGs, but all you GAFers have me pumped for this!

I will get 6 hours of the game free because of EA Access, so after that I might just buy it!

If only I could find someone to buy my AC bundle codes from me.r

So can anyone help me decide whether to play this on normal or hard? I love the difficulty of Skyrim and Fallout. Enjoyed that they had some challenge to them, particularly when facing powerful enemies that were a much higher level than you. I'll probably use the tactical view a bit, but not much. I prefer real time. Want a challenge but not to be forced into using tactical view to survive.

Also, a little disappointed hearing that there are no big cities. How would people say they compare to Skyrim cities?

Thanks, everyone.

For difficulty try normal, if it's too easy bump it up to hard. You aren't locked into a difficulty setting, you can change it on the fly.

Speaking of Jade Empire, I replayed it recently (on PC) and decided it's probably better than the last two Mass Effect games, even with all its flaws.

Thanks, but I really prefer locking in ahead of time. Otherwise I play the game wondering if I should switch, if I should wait to see if it gets harder, etc. I critique the difficulty of the combat rather than just playing. It draws me out a bit. If need be I'll switch, but would prefer to decide before and stick with it.

I loved the fuck out of Jade Empire. Still do. Was like playing those bad kungfu movies.

Imagine Jade Empire series, with the same character development we're seeing in this game, semi open world and great RPG combat system.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnggggghhh!

God I miss that game

It's very ME3-like, although it feels a bit more difficult. Maybe other journalists are just noobs though :PPPP You pick a seperate class and character like in ME3 with some pleb armor and weapons. You gain new loot as you progress. There are microtransactions, but those are optional like ME3. I like it so far, but it's a little inactive because most journalists are probably playing the singleplayer, myself included. If BioWare supports this as well as Mass Effect 3 though... I think it should lengthen the game by a few months.

So as someone who really really enjoyed ME3 Multiplayer, would you say I would enjoy this equally as well?

FFS TOO MANY GAMES!!!!

Horizon 2, Driveclub, Sunset Overdrive, MCC, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, COD: AW...... I don't even have time for so many games.... but I must have them........ must have the precious', yes..... we will finds them......

Well at least you can scratch AC from that list, I guess.

Have any reviews gone into any depth with the MP? I know it's probably the red headed stepchild, but I dropped a ton of time into ME3 mp with friends.

Is it at all possible to be given a well informed backstory on the first two games in the OT? It would be greatly appreciated for people who are jumping into DA:I blindly, and while I absolutely appreciate that Bioware seemingly hasn't watered down the lore, it is nonetheless a bit daunting to think that you need to know so much beforehand

Hmm, really haven't been paying much attention to this after DA2, but it seems to be turning out well. Will eventually see for myself after I decide which system to get it for. I seem to be on the way to an Xbox One for Christmas but I'll be a month lttp unless I pick one up myself...maybe 360 if audience reception suggests it is worth it.

Backing out now to try not to be spoiled on things. No mystery as to who I'll be focusing on as regards getting close to party members though. I liked Cassandra from the weakly animated but entertaining Funimation-produced movie, so even though she may not be the same character (certainly not visually) she'll be a given in my Inquisition playthrough.

Really interested to get this game now.

I was waiting for reviews to be sure nothing was wrong, because EA...but it sounds like it's actually good! :D

What difficulty did you play the single player at? And did you wish you had put it higher when you finished the game?

Not sure where to ask this. I've never played Dragon Age. I usually like hack'n slash games like Diablo. I enjoyed Dark Souls but was too much for me (too punishing). Do you guys think I could like Inquisition? Video walkthroughs look great and I'm completely in the mood for an open world RPG.

I saw a couple of people wondering where the GameTrailers review is. I (Ben Moore) will be doing the review and it will likely go up Thursday or Friday this week. Sorry for the delay, but so far I've absolutely loved it. It's the Dragon Age game I've been waiting for.

Normal. Maybe. Sometimes it was a little easy, but the dragons make up for that. They're a very good challenge. You can change the difficulty while playing anyway :) The game is much harder on Hard & Nightmare imo. Not sure if I could beat the strongest dragon on nightmare.

Great scores, wow even more hyped now!

Rewatched the mp stream on youtube yesterday and that also looks like solid fun. It looks like such a complete package, first (boxed) game in a long time where it seems i'm valued as a customer.

Any reviews being done by someone who gave DA2 a sub 70 score and then gave this a good score? Don't trust any reviews on EA games anymore.

Yes, I have included that in the OT :)

Have any reviewers even played the PS3/360 versions? I bought DA:O for PS3 and it was unplayable. By the time I got to the Grey Warden area the framerate was like 10 FPS. I can't imagine it runs this better.

I was going to ask this as well. I won't be picking up either of the last-gen versions, but I'm still curious as to how they look and run in relation to the current-gen iterations.

I'm sure it's been answered somewhere in the thread, but is the co op, horde mode type gameplay only? No exploring the world with a friend etc?

8/10 from Metro Gamecentral

http://metro.co.uk/2014/11/11/dragon-age-inquisition-review-bigger-than-skyrim-4944106/

In Short: An excellent return to form for the Dragon Age series, and the biggest and most ambitious Western role-player since the new generation began.

Pros: Gigantic game world filled with genuinely interesting things to do. Gradually increasing inquisition powers are handled well. Complex crafting and character customisation.

Cons: Wishy-washy combat system and glitchy camera. Constant stream of other minor bugs. Game does a poor job of explaining its back story.

Is there already a spreadsheet or something to exchange tags for the MP (will be playing the sp first but I would love to do the mp with a coordinated group)?
