Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 10-16 | Frauds Among Us

Hella gimmicky way to make them eat worms. The fun part is they're going to block the worms and get corner pulled. It's not great but it's hysterical. The CS mix up is actually good though.

Is that setup basically a "checkmate" considering the next mixup was going to win the round? Like, is the pressure guaranteed from it?

I used to not care about sales at all... then some of my franchises stopped getting games and I realized sales are really the only thing that matter in the industry. That and I guess Metacritic scores.

I care about sales but I don't really care about what features devs can stuff into their game to make it sell

Why are you singling out the FGC? You'll find death threats from any community if a decision that negatively impacts the community is made by a group of people/company. It's much easier to find those kind of comments due to Twitter/Youtube/Twitch/Facebook/etc.

People send out death threats to devs over Civilization games.

My issue with tournaments charging for spectating is more due to the free baseline now established in modern society. You're competing with cat videos (and the like) on Youtube for free entertainment, which means that if you are going to charge anything you need to be that much more compelling. With that said, people are still willing to pay premium prices for premium content but anything outside of that? Good luck.

I've always seen paying venue fees as a bit different, anyway as there's a very physical element to them (the venue itself) and it tends to include access for other things (like casuals and side tournaments).

As for the Project M thing, a game that repurposes copyrighted code/art assets and requires players to override/hack the security of a console to play, people are genuinely confused/angry that Nintendo might have a problem with it?

Seriously?
That's what happens when you succeed in engendering such a dedicated fanbase. (And from some fandoms that I've seen, things could be a lot worse). With that said, Nintendo does tend to be rather reasonable in regards to handling fan works (as long as you aren't charging any money for them, anyway) and there's no excuse for the full on freak outs and death threats going around.

I would also argue that it's in Nintendo's best interest business-wise to let Project M hang around, especially given that two of the most popular games in existence today both started under very similar circumstances (minus having to hack the hardware in order to properly take ownership of it). Frankly, I think they should be way more proactive and accepting of it... but that's just not how Nintendo works.

When was the last time the FGC sent death threats prior to PM gate, anyways
The whole mess with Dark Prince Chaos?

Sorry to astroturf, but it seems we aren't screaming loud enough about GG in general...

Yes, the game is dual audio. No, it's not DLC.

Those people need to be praying to their lord and savior Shigeru Miyamoto every night that Ninty hasn't curb-stomped the entire enterprise. To be perfectly blunt, NCL is being far more tolerant that anybody has a right to expect, and to throw scream-y tantrums and threaten folks with death (what's with the FGC and death threats, anyway?) because Nintendo might want their shiny new game to take precedence over a ROM hack of a 10 year old game is the very definition of being entitled.

Do you honestly associate only death threats with the FGC? Because in almost any popular media enterprise, there are death threats against well known figures as the norm. In fact in the FGC, I'd probably say death threats are the rarest from this form of competitive community.

I think people spoke out angrily because Apex was quiet on the reason why Project M wasn't placed in. If more organizers and companies were more honest and open about why things happen, people would be more understanding. Instead, Apex treated it like a "if we don't see it, we don't care" just like Capcom did with SFxT's DLC gems and the fans. This sparked a naturally angry reaction. They shouldn't try to hide the reason.

Your reaction is not much better than the average Smash twitter user to be quite honest; speaking down and insidiously mocking a mod that has taken years of work not only to achieve balance and better quality but to receive good reception from a stalwart playerbase. You should be more receptive to game mods as they have a long history of greatness spanning decades and Project M is one of the most successful mods in the world.

There's nothing wrong with what Nintendo is doing or what Nintendo is asking of APEX. But it is wrong to hide such simple reasons in front of a dedicated fanbase to your game series.

I'd agree that playing is more fun than watching, but it can feel a bit ghetto if your local scene has virtually zero exposure and nobody's ever heard of any of your top players, unless they travel somewhere that does have a more spectator friendly setup and more well known players. But yeah there's a limit on how far that should go. It doesn't take that much effort to setup a basic youtube channel but streaming is more difficult. I'm not really in the audience for streams though, different timezone, crap internet, and not enough free time to watch stuff live.

It's the japanese VA (of Millia) that I don't want, but yeah I imagine there would be an option to choose language tracks.

Btw I dug this answer by you(?). Don't ask me how I stumbled upon it, 'coz I don't even remember at this point, lol. I should declare browser tab bankruptcy, it is getting out of hand

hey i just realised your avatar is that chick from heavenly. i love her voice and her music <3

A lot of comments about me singling out the FGC about the death threat thing, but we get them enough (as well as general abuse about being rape babies, calling our parents child abusers, etc) with tiresome regularity, and they're exclusively related to our fighting games (BB really triggers things with people).

Yes, I know it happens with other games/companies, but based on personal experience fighting game fans tend to be a bit more...passionate...about doing it than most.

I am sorry about generalizing, though. I lurk on the outskirts (on the online/stream part of the community, anyway) enough to know that the vast majority of FGC folks are cool people, but man, that 1% sometimes.

Sorry about the double post, but I can't edit my posts for some reason. Anyway, I should have mentioned that I work for Aksys when I did my little diatribe. Personally being on the receiving end of this type of stuff colors my view on the whole subject

Because you are generalizing in a really dumb way. This crap happens in every gaming subcommunity. It also happens in many non-gaming communities as well. Shitty stupid people are out there, and they're determined to shit up the world for the rest of us.

street fighter 4 is the eminem of fighting games
Sounds about right. Pretty skillful, you could draw up a decent argument for being the GOAT if you look at select accomplishments, but it has been mundane and boring for the most part for the past few years.

None of this would happen if Aksys encouraged PC development from Arcsys. There would be joy, happiness and high-fives all around.
Kappa

But yeah, this is not a fighting game thing; expose yourself high enough on social media and it will happen; the larger the audience, the more frequency it will happen with.

I do not want to see what the Mentions are like on some of the larger companies on Twitter. And those twitter accounts don't even joke around with their playerbase!

I think it makes sense that the more popular a game or genre is, the more people there will be (in relation to the total pop) that thinks it's ok to send death threats. So whichever game has the most people playing probably has the most people sending death threats.

Still, it's understandable that being on the receiving end colours perception. I think it's good to have notable people in the community condemning that kind of behaviour. To show that it's not acceptable and not welcomed at local events/tournaments/whatever.

Sorry to astroturf, but it seems we aren't screaming loud enough about GG in general...

I thought astroturfing was about setting up a false impression that something has way larger grassroots popularity/support than it has in reality, not someone from a company openly stating stuff about their product. That's just good old advertising.

.....those deejay nerfs hurt breh

The 1% that is bad is bad in every community.

The DMC community at its peak was a great place to be. Lots of good discussion about mechanics, sharing of combos/strats/tech and other community efforts. There was almost no hostility among DMC fans and that continued well after DMC4. Then DmC happened and it caused the 1% to come out in full force. People who I have never seen or heard talking shit about DmC which is fine but things got escalated to death threats being sent to NT.

It pretty much resulted in toxic discussion in all DMC forums. Then came the DmC apologists who got over aggressive due to the DmC bashing and felt they had to fight fire with fire. A lot of the DMC fanbase just simply migrated to PG and Bayonetta... most online DMC communities are dead because of this hostility.

Fuck the bad 1%ers who ruin it for everyone. And they exist in every community and medium.
How did I not hear about Omega mode until now? All this shutting out the world to become the best Koromaru player in the US is having side effects.
Omega mode with animal costumes could almost be a new game.

You realize that you're going to wind up doing these analogies for every game now right?
SFxTK is French Montana.

Cosigned by everyone and their moms, likened to classic acts in the same vein (Max B/CvS2), expensive promotional campaign, breaks out and underperforms in sales. Tries to scrounge his career back together a year later but everyone stopped caring by then. Had a lot of gems too that got a lot of buzz but that didn't end up paying out.

Wait.. UMvC3 is back at NLBC?

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only for NLBC 100 lol

;_; I miss those days so hard... Watching on old videos and NLBC was the place to Marvel, Bum's place is hype but its just not the same levels of hype...

Rayray and Flux is Kim because of his big ol butt.

With Flux having an account here, I wonder how he would reply to people saying he's got a big booty.

Regarding FGC death threat related stuff.

On 4chan, someone pointed out to me that a death threat was put on my head. I didn't take it seriously at first until the OP started posting personal information, then later a picture of my front door.

It was creepy/weird and I ended up taking it to local authorities who scoped out the situation and provided a lot of support/advice.

Eventually it went away. But yeah, it's not cool. Even if a prank.

Need me to fuck someone up?
