Very nice OT!

Still can't believe it's less than 24h to go before I'll be playing :) At the same time, that feels like forever!

Dunno if people already know this, but according to canon, (ie if you DON'T import anything from DA Keep), DA:I states plainly that The Warden, your character from DA:O is
a woman
.

Still got some decisions to make when I start playing tomorrow.

1. Which voice to pick. Don't think there's been a good comparison of the American and British VA's up to this point, and I really could go for either.
2. Narrowed down my race to human or elf, but still not sure which I want to go with
3. M+K vs Gamepad. Probably leaning towards M+K if only because it makes quick save/quick load that much easier.

Can't wait to finally start up the game.

Excellent OT Shinobi!

Got the Inquisitor Edition and CE Guide on PS4 on the way. Cant freaking wait and so excited to see Bioware return to form.

That's cool. It won't really have an impact for most people what the default world state is though. Similar to how in Knights of the Old Republic canon the second protagonist is a woman as well.

I've been playing a review copy for ~12-15 hours (unless I'm missing something play time doesn't actually appear anywhere?), and I can honestly say that this is my CLEAR pick for Game of the Year so far. I wasn't wild about DA:O and I skipped DA2, but Inquisition is on an entirely different level.

It's massive, polished, extremely well written in all aspects (dialogue, incidental writing, characterization), challenging... even the puzzles are good. This is the best RPG I've played in many, many years.

There's also an absolutely epic... event (it isn't really accurate to call it a twist) that happens around 12 hours in that dropped my jaw and cemented my opinion that this game is something special. And I'm honestly kind of stunned that everything I experienced prior to that moment could really only be characterized as the "early game." (You'll know the moment when it happens).

I'm only ~10% through, but if Inquisition stays on this pace, it has the potential to go down as one of the all-time RPG greats.

That sounds so amazing! I've really come to trust your opinion in games...love listening to you on GameScoop!

What difficulty are you playing on? I'm new to the Dragon Age series, and want a good challenge without being forced to use too much of the tactical camera.

Awesome OT. Took the week off work since I needed to use it up anyway.

Human Reaver, Cassandra, Vivenne, Varric. Time to go be goddamn heroes!

I am so ready for this. After the shitstorm that was Unity and MCC, I'm just ready for a really great game. I played the first 6 hours on X1, and I loved this game. It was everything I wanted from this franchise. It felt like Origins w/ some welcome updates. Story was great so far. Loved the combat. Game looked decent enough (only gripe I guess, graphics could have been better. But it's also nice enough once you get used to it).

So yeah, I am pumped. I ended up getting this on X1 over my PS4, because I got a refund for MCC. So I just applied it for the limited of this game, and have it pre-loaded. I hope PS4 isn't drastically better then it or I'll really kick myself. Either way, I know I'll love this game.

Great impressions right before the review embargo + Assassin's Creed Unity crashing and burning led me to Dragon Age: Inquisition. After a few days of familiarizing myself with the lore and story of the first 2 games I'm really excited to pick this up. Haven't played a conversation heavy game like this in a few years. Eager to sink my teeth into it over the coming weeks.

PS4, just from seeing comparisons, does seem to look a bit better but not drastically. It does run at 1080p instead of the xbone's 900p though.

Gonna roll a male Qunari Knight-Enchanter. Pretty excited for this; I really hope it's good. I can't take another DA2.

Finally an OT! I can now delete subscriptions to a dozen different DA:I pre-release threads.

It's been years since I was this hyped for a game. Judging from reviews and early access impressions, it's going to deliver.

Scoop! I'm playing on Normal. This lets me take down normal mobs in realtime, but usually makes me pause and get a little more tactical on bosses. The tactical cam does work, too. One boss rocked me when I tried to take him out in realtime, but I got him down when I took my time using the tactical view.

Dont mean to hijack this thread but I imagine there are a lot of DAO players in here.

I'm going to play DAO for the first time soon and was wondering if someone could send me to a list of good mods for a first time through, primarily graphical enhancements.

thanks!
I used:

- Dragon Age Redesigned
- Extra Dog Slot
- Lock Bash
- Dialogue Tweaks
- Combat Tweaks
- Morrigan Restoration Patch
- ZDF Dialog Fix
- Advanced Tactics

As for graphics, DA Redesigned is the only one you need.

The texture mods are absolute shit in my opinion. They all look like regular textures that have been sharpened in photoshop and many of them don't even match with the original. They make the levels look like a really bad collage.

Yeah, I knew about the resolution. Was just wondering if there would be other things (like shadows/and other technical stuff). I could deal with 900p, but not if it gets other major downgrades. The X1 version seemed solid in FPS though. No dips when I played. Then again, I already have it pre-loaded. So I guess I just have to accept it, huh. LOL

That feeling when a major plot event goes down and I spent 45 minutes running around my fortress re-hashing it with all my companions and Inquisition members :D

Will be me tomorrow at 9pm. Muhahah, will eventually experience what you are experiencing. :P SOON

The Keep is still down, which is horrible.

Okay, GAF, should my Korean friend ask me to ask you for what world state, gender, and race to play as, or should he or she wait until the stream tomorrow?

I'm going through the keep stuff right now... I just realized I really don't remember much from DA:O lol

Sucks that you can't actually import your save.

It's nice to see people having almost a child-like wonder of excitement with a game. I've become so cynical over the years and RPG's such as these with character interaction are one of the few things that can bring back the inner child in me again. No cynicism. Just pure fucking immersion.

I'm super giddy. Not going to lie. I'm like a kid before Christmas. I loved Origin so much. And I've been waiting a long time for another game in that vein. And what I played of the first 6 hours, this is it. What I've wanted.

So excited. I almost can't contain it. :) Makes beating my cancer worth it. All of this does. These are the moments that make me love being into gaming, and being in this community.

EDIT: Plus, after I got burned by Unity, I need this. I NEED IT BAD.

The Keep is up as ever. I've been messing around with it in the last 2 hours.
I forgot some of the events/choices so I watched them on Youtube to refresh my memories.

Thanks for responding! Sounds good; I'll likely go with normal then. I really liked the difficulty of Skyrim and Fallout on default settings, so I'm hoping Dragon Age is something similar.

It just feels so good to get excited for a BioWare game again. Mass Effect 3 came out more than two years ago, and nothing's really scratched this itch since then. I'm sure this is going to be great.

I like these posts, they're good and I agree with them.

Yeah, even within the first 6 hours I could tell that you would need to pause and strategize as the game goes on. Even early enemies can take a lot of damage. So I can only imagine later bosses and other enemies forcing you to go into tactical mode.

Yeah, the defaut Warden
is a female Dalish elf according to BioWare.

I can't believe it's been 2.5 years since Mass Effect 3. I've missed talking to companions and getting to know them. Dragon Age has always been more dangerous when it comes to companions, too, which I like. Much easier to piss them off, and in general they have a mind and will of their own. I suspect a couple twists coming our way like Isabela and the Tome.

I love Mass Effect 3.

Larius or that other girl for Legacy, guys?

If you pick Larius it means Hawke supported destroying Corypheus, if you pick the girl Hawke supported trying to control him for his powers. Other than that character statement for Hawke I'm not sure it matters.

Hmmm, why does it say November 17, 5:00, if i convert either it from 5 AM or 5 PM from Singapore time to mine, it shows either it already was, or will be in 2 hours.

The time displayed is always your time. There's no converting necessary.

who is also dead

But something to know about game "canon" also known as default world state in Bioware games like Mass Effect & Dragon Age. Most of the choices are made to lower the amount of "WTF is going on, and who is this? From the first game? My friend?" moments. Not always, but mostly. In the books, and other media, they just go in whatever direction they feel like. Hard to write a definitive fiction when the player can kill half the main characters off.

Noob question; are there sneaking / stealth mechanics, or basically just burn everything to the ground?

You can stealth into a group, and set up a nice ambush, but no you're not going be Solid Snake at any point. You can definitely disengage from fights, or just avoid fights if you seem em coming. Only fight when you want in the open world. As for me, I will be killing everything in sight. Yes, the little cute fennec foxes too.

BioWare has turned stealth into a combat mechanic only (aggro management / damange enhancement). You can't use it to slip past encounters (at least not mechanically, it might be scripted into a quest somewhere.)

This OT is worthy!
