God this wait in unbearable :( can't even bring myself to watch streams, I start it see how shiney and smooth it looks and get jealous :(

Why are the release dates so far apart? Don't games usually come out on a Tuesday in the us?

So, any clue on how many CDs yet, or how best to get them? I've gotten three so far...

Looking through the Guide Book, there's like only about 10 or so through Challenges.

I've been getting them at a somewhat decent rate doing Crazy Orders. Not sure how many I can actually get from this mode though.

Ok finally got into the game. Played with the family a bit using the Pro controller. Everything flet off. Sloppy moves, shit timing, wild attacks that I didn't mean to do.

Switched to wii remote and nunchuck. Suddenly everything clicked. Felt like coming home.

What is wrong with me GAF?

You're fine. Pro Controller may not be the best scheme for this game.

I think the Pro Controller is fine except for the shoulder buttons.

So far, the Gamecube controller is the best for me. I do want to try out the Hori pads though.

Gamecube controller would be godly if I had a wavebird. I can't stand cables when playing casually at home.

Pro is actually better than I expected. I might stick with that.

Yeah I might whip out the wavebird for this game. I hate how it uses batteries though. I only have so few rechargables.

Here's a warning those those interested in amiibos: they only work in a single mode (Smash), and that's it. Can't use them for co-op, online (friends or otherwise), or anything else. Just Smash mode.

I'm not sure how I personally missed that, but it was a huge disappointment to learn. I guess I assumed with all this language of "training" amiibos and having them be your "partner", I figured that meant you can could actually use them in modes where that stuff matters

As is, they're barely distinguishable from CPU players. Pretty lame, especially if this is the game to "sell" the concept of Nintendo's NFC implementation

You haven't played with a Gamecube Controller yet accept no substitutes.

So, any word on what Namco games made it into the 80's arcade medley? Haven't seen those additional Pac-Land tracks uploaded anywhere.

How do you get boost parts for your Mii fighter?

I know with Amiibo he gets them from fighting, is it different with a Mii fighter?

I used my Mii and I havent gotten anything yet

Does anyone else find the game pad extremely uncomfortable? The sides of my hands start to hurt after a while and the control stick has a lot less grip to it, so my thumb just slides across the mostly smooth surface of the stick and feels ever so slightly sore after several matches. Not to mention mapping gamecube A to WiiU A and gamecube B to WiiU B is horrible. Don't even get me started on Trigger for grab and shoulder for shield. Wtf?

I made my own control scheme but the damn game keeps resetting to default no-name when moving between modes. With event match I think I have to set my name every single time I change events. It's getting really annoying. I never had issues like these when I occasionally played with a remote + nunchuck with Brawl. Gamecube controller is of course the best but I can't justify spending $20 for a peripheral that works with exactly one game.

I misspoke, it's Duck Hunt (the stage) you unlock, and I just got it -- I threw one Mii off the stage, then recovered. You have to use the character Duck Hunt.

Does anyone else get error code 018-0516? I live in some school housing complex, and I reset my router and everything, and I still get this error. >_>

You probably have a closed NAT. A lot of multiplayer games have issues in dorms and other large traffic networks. You definitely won't be having an optimal experience on one.

Tethering with your cell phone's LTE might give you a better connection in that situation.

59 seconds on Cruel smash for that Luigi-related challenge -_- why have the gods forsaken me?

I played with my roommate earlier and he said there was severe input lag that either had to do with the console or TV. Is there any settings I can change to minimize input delay?

Take off all the smooth image processing and junk. Also see if the TV has game mode.

If that fails, prop up the Wii u gamepad and use that.

Well it's almost 2am, everyone just left. Bunch of friends came over to play all night, we mostly played 8 players Smash (chaos for the eyes) this is the best 100$ (GameCube controller/adaptor bundle) i've spent in a long while. Massive fun, even for those who doesn't play video games often.

So after putting 10 hours into the game I think I am struck with a case of, it's ok.

From a technical standpoint it's easily a step up from brawl, with much better mechanics and overall feeling. I am looking forward to getting more special movies and playing around with characters.

From a content standpoint it's a mixed bag though. Roster size is obviously fine (though screw parity the ice climbers should be in the wiiu version), as is soundtrack stages and what not.... but the non straight up matches stuff leaves me rather disappointed.

The barebonesness of just classic and all star mode leaves me quite empty and disappointed when I think back to melee's adventure mode and brawl's subspace. I was looking forward to seeing what new mode they would have to top those, but instead they just allow co op in the old modes.

The events are alright, but the difficulty is all over the place in the co op ones. Some of the later events takes very little effort to get the rewards, while some of the early ones feel nearly impossible to get at this time. Beyond that I was hoping for more of them. it's not like they put a ton of effort in them so they could have easily cranked out way more of them.

Tour mode... is an ok distraction I guess, but it feels barely thought out, just kind of thrown together, and over all isn't very satisfying at all. The only reason at all I am remotely interested in playing it is because I can do it as an alternative to grining classic and all star to get moves/parts... beyond that I don't think I would touch it again.

As for 8 player smash, in general it's a good addition, and it's not nearly as chaotic as I expected.... but the lack of at least 6 team colors is a tragedy that they need to fix in an update soon. with 8 players I obviously had less experienced players playing, and even with handicap on they never stood a chance and had problems adjusting. I would have loved to stick just the new players on their own team but I couldn't because it would mean I would have to team up good players as well which would just give them an unfair advantage even if i teamed up the two worst of the good players. I also wish that the random map selection wasn't locked behind getting all of the maps as a couple of the levels were so bad to play on that I had to turn everything to final destination mode just to avoid the garbage levels :/

Overall I think it's a fine game, and I do still need to try online play (which ideally I have the same smooth experience most of you have had) but overall I wish it had more wow factor to it... the feature that was most likely to do that (the customizable specials) really has just left me underwhelmed given the fact that you have to grind a 2 player mode or play smash tour in order to unlock more specials... I suppose there might be super rare drops in actual matches as well, but I was never really told what I picked up in matches. I also wish the amiibos had more of a role then CPU that quickly gets more difficult that you can toy around with a bit but really serves no real purpose that the normal cpu can't handle.

tl;dr: overall it's a good game, but I wish there had been more focus on the non match content, and thus has left me underwhelmed all together. I look forward to at some point playing with you guys some though.

How much data would that use up?
