Some people on For Glory just don't give up. Went 12-0 with this one guy, but I admired the persistence.

And who doesn't like padding their stats?
I'm that guy. Well, not literally that guy, but I'm that guy. If there's someone who's beating me badly and consistently, I just wanna play some more to figure out what I'm doing wrong and hopefully pick up what my opponent is doing right. I love blowing up scrubs from time to time, but getting bodied by a better player who's patient enough to deal with me is usually my favourite kind of game in a bizarre sort of way. :lol

I like it when they do that because it gives me opportunity to experiment with other characters. It sucks when someone better than me leaves though after two games. :/

Well you guys seem like a welcoming bunch. Regardless, I can agree with the percent rule if that was a thing in For Glory. Yet it's not, and it's total bullshit because of that.

Played a Pit on For Glory and barely managed to win in a sudden death.

His roll is way to safe and he could throw an attack immediately before I can throw out an attack to punish.

Please fix it Nintendo and that goes for Wii Fit Trainer too.

Patience is the charitable way to look at it, but they might just be opportunistic pussies trying to bump up a win-loss ratio no one ever sees anyways :-P

Uhh... actually no, timeouts are completely allowed in tournaments. Except the TOs implement a rule such that if you have the % lead, you win -- you don't play out the sudden death. It's a skill, whether you believe it to be or not. Honor code does not matter when money is on the line. When you play to win, you do what the game allows you to reach that goal and if that means a timeout it's legitimate.
Just when I thought I had heard enough to make me think Melee tournament players are nuts, I read this.

Yeah, Sudden Death is bullshit and it bothers me they didn't put a % ruling like there is a health ruling in Street Fighter where the person with the most health wins in a timeout. It's yet another design decision from Sakurai's "I consider it a party game!" philosophy and it's been this way since the first game. At the very least, it should only apply in For Glory but... yeah they didn't do it. :/

The way Sudden Death is is the reason why TOs made a rule for it in the first place. Everyone knows Sudden Death is bullshit and luck-based. People who rely on that to win are certainly scumbags but the tactic of timing out is, in all fairness, legitimate. Smash's "tiebreaker" implementation is just awful, though.

It releases in two days here. Should I get a LAN adapter ? I have a pretty good connexion but a friend told me to get one anyway.
I already paid for a GC Pad adapter and a new GC Pad since I didn't have one anymore. This game is getting expensive for me...

Through the opaque medium of online play, I couldn't care less about the real reason they might still be playing with me. The important bit is that they still care about playing with me in spite of the obvious skill gap, and they aren't totally disrespecting my efforts. Even if they just want to pad out stats, it's essentially symbiosis. And I feel a lot better beating them and feeling like I've noticeably improved in some way than just trashing another Villager or Little Mac who doesn't know how to use any other move than Side B and Down B. I'd rather lose a hundred times to a better player than win a thousand times against a bad one. The former will improve me one day. The latter is just stagnation.

True, true

Adapting to RNG bobombs is not really a possibility.
Remember

If he zigs

You zag

Yeah, I assumed that's what he was doing. Hopefully he picked up some good ideas from it.

I find classic and all-stat to be quite a bit harder than 3DS for some reason. They must be tuned to be a bit harder.

Yeah, i'll try. I havent played online on Wii U yet, so forgive me if my connection isn't great.

Classic is much harder in this one by virtue of the Master Fortress inclusion, as well as a tougher to kill fighting Mii team. In all-star mode, it seems that the hard mode in the Wii U is tougher as knockback and damage looks to be scaled down as compared to the 3DS version.

Honestly...either they should determine it by % lead for For Glory, and if they don't want to do that, just keep it the way it is, except without the Bobombs. The latter might make for long SD rounds, but at least it isn't RNG bullshit.

Honestly the best solution would just be to have a tie, where both players get a loss.

I did that against someone a few days ago. Probably did at least 20 battles, and I won maybe 3.

They were playing as Lucina, and I ended up picking Marth after a few battles. Finally I won once or twice, then I eventually won twice in a row (and actually kind of handily won that last one). They switched to Zelda and started demolishing me again. ;_;

Good attitude, with that mindset you will improve as long as you kind find good enough opponents... you're only as good as the people you fight :3

While the % rule is easily better than SD I still don't think it's the best solution as not all percentages are born equal. Bowser at high % is a different matter from sheik with a high % :P
That said, it's not like I've got any better solutions, though I did always like Divekick's mini 'king of the hill' time out condition (a line appears in the middle of the stage when there's only a few seconds left and whoever's nearest it when time runs out wins.) Though again, this might bias it in favour of characters who can hunker down more than agile characters, or vica versa :o

If I prefer rush-down characters overall in fighting games, which member(s) of the Smash 4 roster should I be focusing on giting gud with? I’ve had some success with Mii Brawler, but can’t always use her online. Little Mac seems like the obvious choice but I can’t deal with his lack of air game.

Me a few minutes ago:
Man, those were awesome online matches! I wish I could friend that person in game *desperately tries to memorize the 3 names shown that could possibly be their NNID*
*Goes to Friends List*
*Sees Users Played With option*

Holy shit! Has this always been there?!

Yep, one of the reasons I was more excited for Wii U over 3DS. You can also send friend invites from the victory screen.

Anyone up for a few matches?

Zero Suit Samus is the ultimate high-flying rush-down character

I didn't even know people really played with time limits at home to be honest. I've always played stock to the death, but I had never really known much about the community until the later years of Brawl.
