I don't understand the desire for the GameCube controller.

Pro controller is…
Wireless
Same or less cost than GC plus adapter
Able to be used in many other games
Very comfortable

Also, how did four-stock become the norm? Was Melee that much faster? Two stock feels perfect.

It's just that many of has played Smash with a GC controller for at least a decade, that it just feels the perfect the controller for us.

This! People are just use to it.

That being said I think both control just fine. I wouldn't say one is dramatically better than the other.

I still had 3 GC controllers anyway, so why not pay $20 to use them since I don't really need a pro controller anyway? If I didn't already have the controllers, though, I likely would have just gone with a pro controller.

yeah, they need to make video sharing available for smash, right now I am using a capture device for my videos, it would be cool if I could just share them without it

I can do the palutena's guidance just with the GC controller, I never get it with the gamepad :c
haven't tried the starfox's ones

Honor code does not matter when money is on the line.

I had never really thought about this before. Are tourney guys really playing because they want to win a monetary prize? Is that the goal for them? I.. I think if I won a tournament I'd actually turn down the prize. That is so opposite to why I play this game, Jesus. I hope to god most of these people don't actually think like this.

How do you activate Palutena's guidance i press the d pad with pit and nothing happens and im on palutenas temple.

I've been meaning to ask that too. Have forgotten to try it so far.

Is it like Fox/Falco's Easter Egg on Melee Corneria?

You kinda just tap the down taunt really quickly. I've done it with just a single tap and I've done it after about fifty, so I'm not really sure about the criteria. Usually, I have to struggle with it for a few seconds. You'll know it works when Pit crouches down and begins to pray. Make sure there's nothing that will hit Pit for five seconds after that.

So what is everyone's connection speed like using a LAN adapter? Received the recommended adapter from Amazon.com this morning and I'm only getting 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload.

What works for me is to use my thumbnail. Like, just put the nail on the down button and then flick it down quickly....kinda slide it off the pad and push it just enough to register.

What do you think this is, Mario Kart? No, Nintendo can only make one progressive online title per year. In Smash, you compose handwritten, calligraphic letters containing prose describing your match and it is delivered to those on your "friends list" by a kind old mailman on the verge of retirement.

Um, no, Smash doesn't have that feature (yet?).

Thats such BS, smash would benefit infinitely more from Smash TV :(

I've been playing through Xenoblade and I won't be able to finish it before Smash releases, so I just want to ask this about Xenoblade trophies. Does it spoil anything past (Xenoblade spoilers)
finding out that Fiora is still alive and was Nemesis Face as well as the fact that Mumkhar was Metal Face?

Not everybody does in the Smash community at all play for the money only but there are definitely people out there who do. M2K used to be the kind of guy when he played Brawl he only played it for the money -- he didn't actually like the game. Then when Brawl was falling to the wayside and allowed him to focus on Melee he's since changed to being more about playing for the fun of it, to make people get "wow'd" and stuff. Of course, he still needs Smash for money but he often makes the most bizarre choices in tournaments where a good chunk of money is on the line (like the times he's chosen to play Captain Falcon in top 8 or top 3 before).

It's not everybody's goal, though. Not by a long shot. It's just part of the mentality that goes into playing tournaments, you do everything you can to win.

Like when I played in Brawl tournaments way back when the game was new and I liked it, I wasn't playing for the money. I was playing because I wanted to play other people better than me so I could get better and improve all while get decent results and have a good time. Money was secondary to why I was there. And hell, I only got 2nd at one doubles tourney with Brawl (and it was my first one lol) but after that each one I went to I didn't place any better than that but I still played (until the game got really bad and no longer fun to me).

The idea that I (and I'd hope most other people) usually follow is the desire to win, rather than any potential money. Though, I of course am terrible and have almost never won money. The one time I did win any (because of super low attendance) I immediately tried to bet it against other players (though accidentally ended up winning more <.<).

But if you're good enough, and you have the chance to come out financially positive from the experience of traveling to a tournament, then I can see why that would be a big motivator. Once you get used to that extra benefit, it'd probably be less appealing to have it go away. And at majors, that's a lot of money on the line. Winning thousands at a time could be a big deal.

For the most part though, I don't think that's the main reason many play. People wouldn't play if they didn't love the game and competing. I dunno though, I've seen some (lolM2K comes to mind) that end up cynical and playing mainly for profit at times.

I dont even think it spoils that much? It might, but if it doesnt I havent seen it yet.

Yay! My copy has been dispatched from Shopto now. Are other UK GAFfers copies being shipped now?

At least I'll have it for release date, so I'll be able to play it when I get home from work on Friday.

Can't figure out how to implement spot dodges into my play. Just seems like such an awkward command to execute and I always get punished when I try.

How did you test it? I didn't think the Wii U supported flash. Ignorant question, are there non-flash speed test sites?

Just got my email from ShopTo, and ordered through Amazon just in case.

I love the Wii U Pro controller, but they're far more expensive than GC controllers, which I have more than enough of.

Besides, I want my nostalgia this weekend dammit.

With all the jab combos in this game and the multihit attacks, you have to be pretty careful.

It mostly depends on how well you can catch onto your opponent's habits. If you feel like they're about to grab you or swing with a big attack, go for it. Spot dodging attacks is slightly faster than blocking them directly. If you shield often that can condition people to grab, allowing you to dodge. Pay close attention to what people do when they perceive you to be vulnerable. After an fsmash or landing up B on stage or something, see if they go straight for you or try to wait it out. Depending on their normal response, you can often dodge and mess up their plan.

Moving grab to the b button is helping. Lot with pivot grab if anyone is having problems doing that

Hard trying not to accidentally press it as my special though

i think the wii u pro controller is the best method
i get thrown off by the gcn controller because i think im subconsciously expecting it to feel like melee

Are rips or direct links available to download for the music yet?

Yes, but thats not exactly the most legal. In the case you do truly care, I would never recommend you to check out...

wait what do people use nowadays, ffshrine still? Yeah im sure ffshrine has a rip.
But yeah, go get the ost when it comes out. I mean I get the idea of getting it now since the OST is a good 4 or so months away but yeah

Hey, I just want to post this again because I think it's really awesome (I have no relation to the thing itself other than liking it a lot):

Dude by the handle of pseudonymjones curated a Smash artzine. I received my copy this week and it's truly delightful. If you're a fan of Smash, you'll definitely enjoy it. The art runs the gamut of adorable, quirky, hilarious, and genuinely badass. There's even an essay in the middle meant to help you learn how to play Smash Bros. constantly as a grown-ass adult that absolutely slayed me. Checkidout!

Here's his blog and here's the website for ordering.

Hmm. My copy was supposed to ship today from a UK online retailer. The order page still reads processing, but I've got my fingers crossed that it arrives tomorrow. >_<

I got the email from ShopTo as well, before I was anxiously chasing ShopTo via tickets :'(

Does this mean every UK retailer is boned? I'm assuming it's a waste of effort for me to move my pre-order to amazon. At least ShopTo's orders mostly arrive next day (never haven't for me) so hopefully the adapter should arrive on Saturday whether or not it's DPD or Royal Mail (the adapter is small so the box should be). Fingers crossed! I really wante d to play Smash with the GC but I'll have to use the Gamepad until it arrives :/

Used testmy.net through the browser.
Testmy.net has been acting screwy for me lately. Try downloading something from the eshop and check your router's bandwidth status page. I'm getting about the same download speeds on the ethernet adapter as I was with wifi(~18Mbps) which isn't maxing out my 25Mbps fios connection(I'm probably limited by the Nintendo server I'm connecting to).

I played Melee the other day while visiting my family (don't have a GameCube/Melee copy anymore).

Yes, it's that much faster. I seriously thought someone had cranked up the damage/knockback ratios to 2.0x. Same-stock games probably take about half as much time as Brawl/4.
