Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

I bought Borderlands 2 and the season pass for 360 when it first came out but never finished the last three dlcs. Are they worth getting the GotY edition from GMG for $7.70?

Well, shit. I already bought it and am installing as we speak, so we'll see how it goes. I remember when I played RAGE I had to mess around with config files to get it to run at a solid 60 FPS with very low pop-in. If the tweaking is something like that, then I'm willing to do it.

Let us know! I have the same setup from the looks of it, and am close to pulling the trigger.

Now I'm hesitating again for F:NV. I thought it'd be an action RPG with real-time combat and some stats and skills and the usual, but I'm told the combat is very "dice roll" like and you can shoot perfectly at a target but you'll miss because of your stats? WTF is this crap... :|

Easily. Assuming you liked it. Great deal for a great amount of content, and assuming you have a decent PC it'll run so much nicer too.

This is entirely dependent on how much Borderlands 2 you can take. I just completed the whole thing solo and here's how I'd sum it up:

1)Scarlett's Booty - decent, large area, kind of uniform in nature and the new enemy types are meh
2) Torgue's thingamajig - lots of people love this DLC for the characters and setup, but I found it to be very weak, and somewhat shorter than the Scarlett DLC. The final boss of it is incredibly difficult to solo
3)Hammerlock Hunt - easily the weakest DLC for BL2. Also some really tough enemy types to solo, especially in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode
4) Tiny Tina's Dragon Thingy - Really high quality, brings back the base game's characters, lots of new enemy types and a lot of content. Writing is about par with BL2 base game, with a bunch of references to DnD, fantasy MMOs, and fantasy tropes in general. Big problem: in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, it is nearly impossible to solo. Enemies take endless damage to down and can kill you in one hit.

So that's the problem I ran into...i literally could not beat the Tiny Tina DLC because i was above level 40 trying to solo it in UVHM.

When doing the DLCs not in UVHM, all the loot drops will be capped to level 30, while your character will keep gaining levels, making everything a cake walk and your new guns unfulfilling.

So I went through two of the DLCs, got up to level 37 (with all my guns at lvl 30) and decided to bump up to UVHM to get higher level guns. Well, the game isn't (in my opinion) properly balanced for solo above level ~35, and by the time I got most of the way through Tiny Tina DLC, I was level 44 and enemies would take 3 minutes of solid shooting crits to take down. Bosses took nearly an hour of solid shooting. Just broken.

Oh, and forget about taking out the berserker type enemies - if they level up once or twice, you're screwed. Empty all of your ammo into them and they will still be at half health...and they kill you in one hit.

So if you start fresh, you'll need to play the base game up to level 15 i think before you can do the DLCs...so you'll have a bunch of repeat content to do.

But I really liked BL2, so I would still recommend it if you feel the same. Just don't expect the quality of the base game for 3/4 of the DLCs.

Wow. Thanks for taking the time to write all this down. I love Borderlands and I heard that the Tiny Tina DLC was really good. I could go back and just play it on 360 but I want to build my Steam library and like Stark mentioned I'd want it to run better too. It'll be a good way for me to re-familiarize myself with the series as well now that The Pre-Sequel and Tales are out. I think I'll go for it. Thanks.

How good is the PC port of Shadows of Mordor? And do you think it'll get a better sale? I don't have enough in my wallet at 33% and I'm skint ATM so can't add more. 50% would be good enough.

PC port is good, I can run the game on my lappy with most settings on High and locked at 30 FPS and it runs A-OK. If you have a good PC, 60 FPS is possible with High settings (Ultra quality is similar to High)

I think 5 Pounds is OK. I didn't like the game much but from a gameplay perspective it was good, its everything else that left much to be desired.

oh shit

evil within or mgr?

Both.

what the shit! I want dishonored for $3.99 :O

or hell even 4.99 :(

I remember getting Dishonored GotY edition for under $5 during a sale, felt good~
Course it was a misprice then :V

Has anyone tried Freedom Planet? How is it?
It's my GotY contender, if you like platformers, specifcally Genesis-era platformers, you'll like this game.
Classic mode will let you play without story cutscenes (which can easily be skipped if you want to play with them), so consider playing on that difficulty.

Definitely do it then.

I truly believe that Borderlands with a mouse and 60fps is nearly a different experience; much much better. The auto aim of the console versions makes fights trivial...it's just left trigger right trigger. But with a mouse, picking out the different weak spots on enemies (with the additionally clarity for distant enemies) adds a great new layer. Fighting the robots is the best.

I would highly recommend using Durante's Gedosato tool for BL2 as well. The SMAA it gives is wonderful for smoothing out the image, even at higher resolutions and default post processing he has for Dark Souls 2 (which can be applied to any DX9 game) really makes the Borderlands 2 art pop. It's one of my favourite looking games.

So yeah, I really like BL2, so don't let my bleating dissuade you. I just think the base game is much better than the first 3 DLCs and the end game can get broken. I'm probably more frustrated with it than I should be because I really liked the base game and wanted more...but not more banging my head against what seems like impossible challenges.

Hah, well, I'm a console player and even when I play on PC I use a controller (yes, even FPS... *gasp* I know) because I just really hate using a keyboard.

But I always disable auto-aim or aim assist. That shit seems way too dumbed down. I aim with the stick and I do just fine.

I haven't tried Gedosato on BL2 yet, only DkS2. Since you mention it now I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Only exception: You want to play it right this second and don't have time later.
Alternatively: the price looks unnaturally low. If that AAA game that came out last month is showing up at $5 or less for some reason yet isn't a flash/daily it MIGHT be a good idea to buy it anyway because they probably fucked up in your favor!

Disappointing. Was hoping they'd iron out those performance issues. Since my card is only 2gb, I'm a bit worried...

I have a 2gb 770 and have steady 60fps except in cutscenes, which are 30fps locked. I only tweaked a couple settings in the options and didn't think on it too hard. I was pretty surprised because I also wondered about the 2gb and how many hoops I'd have to jump through to get it running smooth. Game looks and runs great though.

If ya'all looking for a Musou-lite like game that runs at 60 FPS, give Yaiba a try, it's higher difficulties are effin' brutal to boot

Really tempted to get The Evil Within from GMG but between Far Cry 4, Dragon Age and Alien: Isolation plus all the other games in my backlog, I know I won't touch TEW before the Winter Sale comes around when it'll probably be just as cheap.

I'm not going to put anyone down for using a controller for FPS games (or any other games); play how you want to play.

I just hear a lot of criticisms for BL2 combat and I sometimes wonder if it's from people using heavily aim assisted controller options. I personally find the variant weak/crit points, non-hit scan weapons (with some weapons having tons of travel time), tons of weapon and enemy variety creates a really great shooting experience. Sure, the AI isn't FEAR or Halo levels, but the enemy behaviour is quite variant, even on the same enemy type, which is more than I can say for 95% of the shooters out there.

I personally have a hard time playing any aiming games (first or third person shooters) with a controller, and when I am effective at them, it's usually because the game is basically playing for me.

any vouchers to get Wolfenstein cheaper? about to jump on the $16 GMG deal. Hopefully it runs well since I have a 3570k and 7950.

My asia store does not have metal gear rising. What is the work around for this? I know buying it from the us store via a vpn will get you banned. Can someone just gift this to me?

You can also get it from GMG or Nuuvem. Metal Gear Rising is effectively region free, there's only an activation lock for Asia. Meaning, if you want to activate a copy of MGR if you're in Asia, use a VPN; afterwards, you don't have to use a VPN to play it whenever you want.

FYI

MGR for $7.50 at Gamestop, I caved bought it and got the Steam key instantly.

Another positive review for Nuuvem also, I've bought quite a few things from them and they've always given the key instantly. Just bought Alien Isolation for $16 and got the key instantly. I had to use my VPN to buy Alien though because it said it wasn't available in my region. If anyone would like Alien PM me and I'll help you out.

Edit: Also forgot to add that Amazon matched the Evil Within price on Steam, if you have Amazon credit jump on it! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJXYR3W/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Nuuvem has Evil Within for R39.99 so $15.88

Is that a yes or a no on the assist?

Sorry it say it was a no. I'm new to Steam so didn't quite know how intense Game Maker was. Thinking it was more like RPG maker or something. Definitely cool for people with time and good at programming, but I have none of the first and suck at the latter.

Kind of undecided on Civ V Complete and Bioshock: Infinite. I loved Civ IV but everything I read and watched about V kind of felt too different.. As for Bioshock: Infinite, I played the first 2 on 360 so I want to get it for that - but GAF, let me know, how is the B:I framerate on the 360?

By "assist" I meant helping people out with getting it for $5 rather than $50. ;) The base price is supposed to be ¥11,600 but somebody missed a 0.

Oh, sorry, long day at work. You would like someone in Japan to make the purchase, sure I can do that. What do I need to do? Buy as a gift?

Edit: It says here however that the regular list price is 1160yen.

If you get that (and I don't recommend it), get it on Gamersgate- 75% off with an additional 20% off coupon on site.

Can someone help me out ?
Is Spintires worth $10? I've seen the Let's Play's and it all looks enticing but i've heard that the game isn't being updated anymore. $10 isn't that much but when you look at all the other value propositions on steam (Civ 5, Isaac, etc) it definitely becomes worth asking the question.

I'm mostly worried the premise of the game is just a gimmick that'll burn out within a week of playing the game.

The standard edition is free, but the Mac converter DLC requires the Professional Edition DLC

To clarify, I'm talking about the app the DLC is tied to, not what you need to actually make use of it. To add the DLC to your library you only need the standard edition, which everyone has already since it's in sub 0.

Civ V plays a little bit different than Civ IV, but not terrible different. Everything was improved. V Completr is a must buy for every IV fan.

In terms of using the DLC is won't be usable unless you own the professional edition.
But since you are talking about adding a DLC to the library it doesn't matter if you own professional edition or not :P

For some reason, before I went to work this morning I could have sworn there was a bundle of Civ III, IV, and V, but I can't seem to find it except the one with Beyond Earth. Am I better off waiting?

I saw that earlier. Maybe it's gone now?

I'm still wondering if I should buy now or wait til Xmas
