Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

I like that Jazz style and Tribal style jungle themes were both remixed by the same guy who clearly just couldn't get enough of that Island Swing, if nothing else he was committed to giving us more of the same.

I'll never get the Smash love for this song. If I was ranking my favorite DKC tracks, Island Swing probably wouldn't even crack the top 15. Nice track, but come on.

I think the need to set controls each time is just particularly annoying right now since everyone is going through all the modes, trying to unlock stuff, checking the challenge board, and so on. After a while, you will probably just play one mode in each play session. Probably why the play testers never complained.

Yo even when I win Classic and get booted back to the char select I need to re-login to my controller. Total bs.

In terms of quality-to-crap ratio though, Melee wins hands-down. Melee didn't have a single weak music track (some people hate the DK Rap, but I love that it's there), but both Brawl and Smash 4 have a fair few duffers.

No need to spoiler that, it's the truth.
Even if I do appreciate setting my music sliders with many great rips and remixes vying for attention there's something to be said for the more cohesive and quality Melee selection that felt like it made every remix count.

While having tons of music is great in concept more often than not it's left me wondering why a good half of it is either redundant, ill fitting or just kind of lame.
Brawl while still going the quantity route balanced its dealing out of new remixes a lot better, it was fun seeing the various takes on classic themes for each franchise. Then in SSB4 they just threw like 2-3 new mixes max for the mid tier series complete with that previously mentioned redundancy with some getting less (F-Zero) or even none in Wario's case and that to me is a let down no matter how much good stuff there may be in here on the whole.

I'd rather have one or two awesome remixes (preferably orchestral) per stage from each respective franchise, like in Melee.

Instead, Brawl and Smash 4 had a lot of:

1. Non-remixed music ripped directly from the original game
2. BAD remixes. Forgettable stuff. Poor arrangements. Quasi remixed 8/16-bit music is one of my pet peeves, and Smash 4 has a bunch of it. Where's the awesome orchestral version of the Duck Hunt theme?

Look at Melee, on the other hand. I've probably played on FD, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium and Fountain of Dreams a thousand times each, and I'm STILL not sick of any of their music. Fucking AWESOME arrangements for each stage that don't get old.

I'd take 2 amazing songs per stage over 300+ total songs ANY day.

I wonder if i'm the only person who cranked Yuga's boss them onto max for temple, when it comes to throwing in a few tracks from more recent games I was pleased to see that this made the jump, it makes for a surreal trip through the main menus if you leave it on the sound test.

Yuga
Yugablahblayuga
Yuga

What a weird song, I never noticed the vocals when I played Link Between Worlds

tbh i'm not a fan at all of going straight orchestral for everything, most of my favorites from melee (mute city, fire emblem, brinstar, dr mario) don't go for a "traditional orchestral sound" necessarily, and are all the better for it. the live instrumentation definitely does a lot of good for them, though.

my issue with the smash 4 soundtrack isn't really from a composition standpoint at all (the level of quality feels a lot higher than brawl's imo), but is more in relation to its general imbalance. what it does have generally sounds good and is nice and varied.

You hold too much on nostalgia dudes :p

Brawl already had better stage music overall than Melee, and some of Melee's best music like the Gourmet Race were not even original and came from N64. And Smash 4 had better music than Brawl overall, regardless of quantity.

But we can all agree that there are some questionable choices in music of Smash 4, so there's that.

validictary elegy made the soundtrack for me everything else is irrelevant.
where the hell is the Team Plasma battle theme?!!

Despite the representation imbalance, I'm pretty happy overall with Smash 4's OST. There are a couple of stinkers (not a fan of the new D/P battle theme), but genuine surprises like the vocal tracks (DCK Returns!) have won me over. At the very least, you can't convince me Magicant isn't one of the series' greatest arrangements.

And for all the love regarding Melee's cohesiveness, I always felt the Mach Rider arrangement was really out of place with the rest of the soundtrack.

Anyone using the wii u pro controller? Kind of want to know if that one is more preferred or the game pad is.

I use it and I'm loving it. It's more comfy than the gamepad and even lighter, plus the excellent battery life means I never have to bring the charger with me anywhere. Using the right stick as a cstick took some getting used to but it is worth it.

i'm more interested in learning why lucina is wearing panties on her head near a christmas tree

You two giving me conflicting choices D:

Wii U Pro is the best controller ever made which is funny considering It's just a lighter and smoother GamePad. GamePad is good but Wii U is just so good if you have the money for one

I think the Gamepad is fine. It's not my preferred option, but it's doable. I don't like the Gamecube controller, though, and I wish we had another option for those of us that want the analog stick and face buttons to be across from one another.

Only issue I have is too many times a soft forward A will result in a smash

Ganondorf is where I notice it the most, most of the time I want to use his kick and it never comes out

I now prefer the pro controller over the cube controller. It's comfortable and makes switching between it and the 3DS isn't a hassle button wise.

QUESTION
How do I pivot grab properly? Sometimes I do it but more often then not I turn and do a tilt attack. It's so frustrating and my grab game suffered for it. Is pivot grabbing don't only during a run or can I be in a stand still for that extra range?

GGs. I had a difficult time against your Sonic & Falco. I'll practicing to give you a better challenge with characters other than Yoshi.

Yeah it's all good. You've taken the Yosh to the lab and I see the results. I need to lab it up myself with Palutena and Sonic, and maybe Falco too.

I still screw up geninja's up B with the gamecube controller. I have no idea what they did with that input specifically but man.
