I'm just saying, if you were gonna create a new type of light saber, why not do something even more significant than just adding a hilt? Por exemplo:

- light whip
- light mace
- light crossbow
- light hammer
- light tonfas
- light nunchucks
- light billy club
- light spear

Look at that. And that took less than 30 seconds to come up with, and nearly all are better ideas than what we got. And I ain't even getting paid for it! Abrams has no excuse.

LOL, could you imagine the meltdowns if he did that.

Still prefer this edit though.

This looks so much better.

What's cool about this scene is the ruined pod racers in the background. It kind of depicts what the universe of the prequels would have looked like if they followed the real world look and aesthetics of the original trilogy and used real props instead of CGI.

That little Droid is adorable

Aren't you working on this movie anyway? You're still at ILM, right?

:/

You do realize that a lot of that background is also likely CGI?

When it comes to SW, merch is always a HUGE factor and something they are clearly planning from the script and concept art stage in a major way. I gotta say, I am looking forward to seeing how they represent this little guy in toy form. Would they use a magnet system somehow? I don't know... but I do like how it looks on screen.

it's most certainly DIFFERENT which is important.

Spoooiiiiilleeeerrrs! I just binge watched the entirely of Clone Wars over the course of about two weeks this year. Since all of the seasons are on Netflix and a lot of people are going to be hungry for some new SW to tide them over till Dec 2015... I suspect it's going to be a popular choice.

When you first learn that he's still alive, it may feel cheap. But ultimately it's really satisfying the way it plays out... well, except for the part where Clone Wars gets cancelled before they can completely finish off his arc. Even with the comic adaption of an unused story he's still pretty much left in limbo.

To be fair it looks just like one of sets for the leaked photos.

Which are almost always digitally enhanced, touched up, or modified in post. I've seen enough JJ shot reviews to know better. Not that most people would be able to notice anyway without a before/after comparison.

...

Damnit, this is why I usually stay out of these threads. Can't tell who's being serious or just trolling given my prior stint at ILM. :/

Dude, I am so sorry. I just remember seeing you post about your work at ILM, I had no idea you weren't there anymore. Seriously, my bad.

Welp.. I come into my favourite forum all excited as I just saw the most exciting SW trailer today and then I made the mistake of reading the whole thread.........

Seriously some of you guys will suck the living fun out of things, I mean.. how do you make it through your day :|

I love the fact that I can't tell what's practical and what's CG about that little guy. The line is completely blurred for me.

I'm so hyped for this film, ya'll don't even know.

Ehh, people shit on the prequels a lot for overusing CG and while the last two are definitely guilty of that I thought the Phantom Menace did a pretty good job balancing practical with CG. Hell, a lot of the Prequel trilogy used miniatures/practical effects they were just directed so flatly.

Oh no.

RAY SHIELDS

Holy hell is this going to wipe those awful prequels away.

I haven't watched them since I saw them at the theater. I don't even remember them anymore. Effectively purged from my memory with the exception of some of the character's faces. I don't recall the plots, dialog, scenes, etc. Feels good, man.

No, Phantom Menace was a fucking mess with its overdone CG. Absolutely an abomination.

Should be expected given what ILM's worked on since the last prequel. Iron Man 1+2, all the Transformers films, Avatar, Avengers, the last 2 Star Treks...they've pretty much nailed down hard surface model rendering, particularly for metals.

So do you or don't you remember them?

Agreed. Most of Tatooine in TPM is actually pretty solid looking.

Would be funny if they had a scene in there where someone is watching the prequels and they say, "worst historical re-enactment ever."
