Legend of Korra Season 4, Episode 10:

I'll be honest, this episode felt like a step down from last week. I suppose it stems from the fact that I have come to hate the Bei Fong clan and the heavy focus, even with Toph, just doesn't do it for me. At least Opal finally stopped acting terribly, so that is something. Also, people complained about the mid-season battle being a case of because the plot said so, this one takes the cake, Toph could have ended this but chooses non-involvement because it is to be left to the younger generation. Well, isn't that fine and dandy until KUVIRA UNLEASHES A MAKO CANNON THAT IS GOING TO DESTROY THE WORLD! Speaking of which, we need to take away Bryke's copy of Final Fantasy VII lest he take more plot points from that game.

Anyway along the lines of Bolin being elevated to Kuvira's inner circle, Zhu Li's betrayal has become almost completely pointless save to deliver the fucking obvious news that Kuvira is going to attack Republic City because, I dunno it is there. I think this has become one of my biggest problems with Kuvira; she has lost all real character motivation ever since she was victorious at Zaho Fu. Her enemies were defeated and the empire is united, her arc is over. Though because that was only halfway through the season we must continue. Also, this series can't help but justify the actions of Kuvira as the head of Republic City wants to start an arms race. I think it was pointed out that if Kuvira didn't weaponize the spirit vine somebody else would have.

Let me see, it was nice that even with limited screentime Asami and Verrick are working hard on some final battle material. Prince Wu shows hidden depths and then shallowness and I got to admit I want to see him and Mako interact more. They might not have the chemistry of Verrick and Bolin, but they are actually entertaining to watch. Bolin on the other hand has fully reverted back to the status of gibbering monkey and Chris Pratt routines just doesn't connect when interacting with the Bei Fongs, that shit was just awkward. Oh, also the spirits are dicks to Korra because who know, that shit was so minor I could not care less. Anyway, overall a decent episode, and while I didn't get a city leveled, I will take the mountain.

maybe they wouldnt have had budget problems if they didnt have to pay different voice actors for every superfluous character they introduce

WOAH, big spoiler here guys:

Lin's dad is named Kanto.

Pretty decent episode.
The whole Suyin vs Kuvira fight was fantastic and the highlight of the episode. Was a lot of fun seeing two metal benders at the top of their game going at each other. Loved how Suyin made that armour suit from scratch.
Would have been nice to see a bit more of Toph in action or at least stay on as a mentor role in the background considering what's happening in the world right now. Oh well.
No surprise with Zhu Li and her sabotage plan.
Also Bataar Jr. finally showing a bit of a conscience when he almost blew up his sister.

Something I forgot to mention about last episode: Jinora gets her spirit trapped in the spirit world so often Tenzin has more of an exasperated "not this shit again" reaction than one of shock and horror.

I thought it was funny.

kuvira fail
Republic City iinavasian. . . zzz. Why would she invade when she already has everything she wants. Can't control the whole world idiot, now she's just another crazy villan

This is what you call writing yourself into a corner.

The only thing that stuck out as bad to me was

Why in the grand blue fuck would you hold the metal incriminating mechanism in your inner jacket pocket? chuck that sumbitch somewhere

Means to an end I guess, but sheesh.

Zhu Li's entire range of sabotage was so sloppy and half-assed that I honestly didn't see the point to the subplot.

What a disappointing episode. I was expecting Toph vs. Kuvira, but that did not happen. Lin´s bending is great.

The spirits were right in not cooperating with Korra. I really liked that part.

And of course Kuvira will attack Republic city. Republic city used to be a part of the Earth Kingdom, until the ripped it up. Kuvira is a shit character.

That was a great episode. The show is going strong into the last 3 episodes.

The choreography between Su and Kuvira was great.

And Toph gave us just a glimpse of that OP earth bending. I bet Kuvira won't be able to sleep at night knowing that Toph just called her on her honor.

2 things before I give any other thoughts

1. I don't buy that Kuvira is good enough to beat someone like Su at all.

2. Why the hell couldn't Bolin spare the time to melt the spirit cannon?

And her bending. She is a master earth bender.
Tell me about it. I keep telling people she's not "weak." She's not Toph OP, but she could wreck a person in a legit fight. She did legit beat Su in my opinion. We all know Su trained her and Kuvira probably refined her style a lot since then and probably has a really good idea on how Su actually fights.

4 seasons in, I am now conditioned to preemptively cringe whenever I hear Bolin start talking. I wanted to like him, too. But good lord, he sucks. They dropped the ball bad.

Also, protip to the Avatar universe: KILL YOUR ENEMIES INSTEAD OF CAPTURING THEM.

Also, Zhu Li really did sell Bolin and Varrick out. What a rat!

1. Raiko is the worst leader I've seen in any TV show, I hope the writer's intentions is for us to hate him inmensly.
2. Toph finally putting them Sokka rumors to rest, great.
3. Bolin was actually somewhat tolerable until the end, good thing he finally made a decent plan.
4. That Su v. Kuvira fight, enough said.

That fight was way better than it had any right to be.

I'll come back with more later but damn.
I really wanted that fight to be longer. Loved how she just whipped out that blade and used it as a grappling hook thing as well. Too bad Lin couldn't join in on the fun.

I was pretty surprised she even had that gear. I was thinking that the armor projectiles were going to be her only weapons. Should make Korra's finale with her interesting.

I thought it was just inventive metal bending. Lin does the same thing, it just looks less serrated and more pointy.
