you must never do this
you must never do this

pretty much what i expected - honestly? ill import the physical when i can get a deal on it, but given sega's moves in the last year or so, this makes sense & was pretty big of them. day fuckin' one.
I tell ya man, this game could be released on PC and people would throw money at the screen.
I won't say beggers can't be choosers, but we finally got a new Yakuza game THAT FEATURES TAXI RACING AND EPIC IDOL DANCE BATTLES! THAT IS WORTH ALL THE GIGABYTES AND BANDWIDTH YOU CAN OFFER!

I live by a strict rule: If a game gets a retail release somewhere in the world, then I'll only get it if it has a retail release here.

I still haven't gotten the 3DS Phoenix Wright, the first Senran Kagura game and Yumi's Odd Odyssey because of it.

So you are proud that you are denied yourself some amazing games? You are making a point to no one.

It's a bit ridiculous I know, but I hate buying digital games.

Good luck with that. You might want to update your outdated rules.

Just saying, I wouldn't want to miss out because I can't get plastic with my game. Especially in this case. To each their own.

I'm gonna hold onto hope that Sega will "Ducktales Remastered" this game then.

Like, hope that Y5 does well enough digitally that they end up releasing a limited disc run a few months later. Otherwise, pass :(

got excited thinking it was ps4, then realised it was Ps3, followed by the release date of Summer 2015. Nice that they're doing it, but too late for me to care anymore :(

Sounds like you'll miss an incredible game for no good reason

It's a PS3 release of a Yakuza game in 2015. It will probably become the worst selling Yakuza game (excl. the Dead Souls), destroying any chance we ever had of getting the PS4 Yakuzas outside Japan.

Well then, I'll try not to let them regret it. I really hope it does well for them, and considering the circumstances of the situation, I'd hope they have their expectations in check.

Confession time: we were (and still are) watching the stream with my wife and I spontaneously threw my arms up when he announced the game. That was a bit awkward.

You know what? I don't even care that this is PSN only, I'm just glad it's actually coming over. I never expected it to at all! I think I'll give this a shot when it comes out.

Is it confirmed digital-only everywhere? Any hope at all of a retail release in europe for whatever silly reason they might have? I'd totally import it. Download-only is a no-go for me -.-

Seriously, we need everyone with even remote interest to buy this game and to do it on day one and not wait for sales (assuming there's no Plus discount). Think about it, now the 5 is coming thanks to Sony, the requests for Kenzan! and Ishin are only going to intensify.

I completely understand that you'd prefer retail but do you know how fucking badly these games sell over in the US and EU ? Japan gets a retail release because it sells hundreds of thousands of copies, we're lucky if we reach 100,000 copies sold and that's being EXTREMELY optimistic.

As far as I'm concerned, if someone claims to be a Yakuza fan and doesn't buy this, they aren't fucking Yakuza fans as they don't care about the series enough to support it.

I will, but using the sales of a long overdue, digital only PS3 game to determine the viability of new PS4 games seems silly.

Well they're certainly not going to port/remaster a PS3 game to PS4 for it to massively bomb. The viability of the franchise in the West is already questionable every time they bother to localize it. If they see people are still buying the games, and the budget evens out, then they may consider localizing the PS4 games that are out and will come out. That's all there is to it with this franchise.

I don't want to play my PS3 though. I feel like sega sets itself up for failure by going this route. I'd show support to a ps4 Yakuza easily.

Yakuza 5 was the most important game to localize now. Without it then we're pretty much screwed for the rest of the series. It's not like FF where skipping one entry means nothing. All these games are linked together heavily in terms of story.

That was the best announcement so far from both yesterday's and today's events.

A big thank you to whoever made that possible.I can only hope we also get Yakuza 0 and Ishin one day.

...do you guys realize how well this shit sells, though
this isn't namco/etc type hyper-inflated-for-a-niche-series-expectations; we're talking about steven seagal's "more songs from the crystal cave" hitting itunes for the dozens of people checking for that, and you're out here demanding the vinyl

bruh lemme hol one of them physicals tho

I mean, I'd pay for it, personally. whip up a very limited limited edition and charge more
It sure isnt as niche as say, class of heroes 2G :p

Noooooooooooooooooooooo

Sega you had one job.

Sorry, I don't buy digital games on platforms, that do not deliver on backward compatibility.

When we don't get Yakuza 0, here's who you blame

this is the reality. i'll take it just like i did with AA5. i want to play this so bad.

I will then rather import it from Japan. I mean seriously. They could at least do a reprint or something in Japan with English subtitles. I would import within a second.

I'm honestly surprised Atlus wasn't the ones helping with it.

Either way happy, and WILL pre-order!

EDIT: ....will wait for sale. I don't do full priced digital titles.
