Final Fantasy VII Announced For PS4

Thank you Square, said nobody!

Why not just announce it after the show with a tweet or whatever, instead of in the middle of a damn live stream in front of hundreds of thousands core fans?? Srsly, who thought that would be a good idea in the slightest? This is just insane, such a massive troll, unbelievable...

Why can't they just do THIS
with pre-rendered 4:3 backgrounds to make they look 16:9, and rework the textures and 3d models in combat and the world map?

And release a 16:9 1080p/60 remastered game? instead of a 4:3 upscaled game? This really shouldn't be that hard...
The reason is simple: unlike Capcom, Squaresoft was actually rather bad at storing and maintaining their assets. So Square Enix doesn't have the original assets for FF7 (I think also not for 8?) which is why it would be difficult for them to do the kind of remastering Capcom does.

Didn't Capcom lose their REmake assets as well?

I still can't believe this happened. I'm not against this being released on the PS4 as a port. However, the way it was announced.. and it's not just Square's fault, after all it was Sony who invited them and probably knew what they were gonna announce. How could anyone remotely in touch with their audience think this was a good idea? Why invite Hashimoto to go on stage just to announce a PS4 port of a PC port? This whole thing is crazy. It doesn't make any sense. Didn't anyone imagine it would backfire? I think I've heard more about this mess than about the rest of the stuff Sony actually announced. It all went horribly wrong.

Yeah... I think capcom were using the ones ripped from the GC version...
S-E could just rip the backgrounds of the PC version...

Also FFVII backgrounds are already following the character and aren't just 4:3 images like the resident evil ones... so they could come up with a better result making them 16:9 'cause most of the backgrounds would be widder than 4:3

You are suggesting that they 'lost' the assets for the biggest game they ever made. A game that spawned numerous spin-offs and a movie.

I just don't believe that at all. If you have something to suggest that is true, please post it.

I bet Capcom doesn't have the original stuff for RE psx either.

The like/dislikes on YouTube is now 9k dislike to 1k like. If that doesn't send a message then they truly are pinball wizards.

I think a bunch of the likes are probably in appreciation of the epic troll as well.

I doubt Square Enix Japan cares about likes and dislikes on a YouTube video. They're going to look at the sales figures.

Anyone else get the feeling that if this doesn't sell super well SE will use it as an excuse to not remake FFVII?
"People didn't buy our FFVII PS4 port, clearly people don't want a remake."

I still can't get over how insane this troll was and how Sony actually thought this would be a good idea. Like the endless clamoring over the remake could be satiated with a port of FFVII PC lol

they had to know how hard they were trolling hardcore gamers. It had to be intentional. They can't be that oblivious, can they? haha

yes they can, the older people actually making the decisions are that oblivious (after all they didn't grow up playing FF games, they don't understand the nostalgia). i'm sure there were people saying it's not a good idea to make such a big deal out of it, but they weren't the ones in charge.

i watched the announcement again and this time it was even worse, it's just... i don't get it. S-E are fucking dumb as hell. Sony too for allowing that farce to take place.

This is what makes me sad as well... :(

That is the saddest bit. If they had said "look, we are remaking it but it's not happening until after ff15 releases so expect a 2017/2018 release....but!! Hey in the meantime the pc port will be released for you to enjoy"

But no. Guess the last chance hotel is the Shenmue hd collection

Sad times indeed

People expecting a remake did this to themselves. I've dashed all hopes of it after the first hooplah around it several years ago, people holding it out on it just set themselves up for disappointment.

There are plenty of other games to play, even final fantasy games

Nobody tweeted Shu to ask why Sony allow that to happen? It's fine if SE wants to port FFVII to PS4. It's not fine if you send a big guy from SE onto stage, say a bunch of stuffs that make it seem like a big deal, like a ground up remake, and then turns out, it's just a port of a port.

It's ridiculous, really. SE was completely dumb, and Sony wasn't much better when they approved the showing.

I'm pretty sure SquareEnix did this to people with the way they made the announcement, making it in the worst possible way ever known to man.

I actually expect an apology. Both from Sony and Square.

Square because they thought they could pull of such a stunt and get away with it.

And Sony because they let it happen, knowing very well how that would turn out.

At least the person in charge of publisher and development relations at Sony should have been aware of the tremendous impact such a giant kick in the family jewels produces.

Worst of all, I can now put my dreams of a FFVII REMAKE to sleep, forever. And please Sony, for the love of god, do yourself a favor and don't bother us with ANY Square or Square related game in the future at conferences. Unless you are okay with giant catcalls at your conferences, that is.

I would like to understand why anyone would ever have the idea that a FFVII remake would be even a remote possibility when SE can barely get the next title of the mainline franchise out in a timely manner.

I understand being bummed out.... but an Apology, really?

Well, I am well aware that a Final Fantasy VII Remake is the dream of a mad man. I myself said that in the well known 1st hype thread. But then again, sometimes dreams come true and on Saturday evening I thought for a couple of seconds my dream came true. My fault, it will not happen again.

Am I really the only one thinking someone owes us an apology? (to be more specfic: Not for not making FFVII-R, but for the way they announced the re-relase).

I for one didn't think Square would actually make a full-blown last/current gen graphics FFVII remake. That would be an immense undertaking and take resource/attention away from FFXV.

But reveal of the PC port of FFVII on the stage event is nothing short of stupidity. It's just plain stupid. If you wish to announce that FFVII port is coming to PS4, don't make it sound like a big deal. As someone posted above, bring a new trailer of FFXV (English if possible) and after that just flat out say that FFVII PC version will be ported to PS4 to celebrate Playstation. Or if there is no new trailer of FFXV, why even bother to show up?

Nobody asked for FFVII PC port to PS4. Seriously. It's like Square Enix and Sony has no self-awareness.

You won't get one. They will continue to release this game in its original form, on as many platforms as possible. Sad, but its just the way SE operates these days usually.

I don't know if I personally wanted an apology, but if they give one, I'd gladly take it.

It was the most misleading, mind-blowingly asinine thing to do to your fanbase, and while what they did may not be a crime, it's a blatant slap in the face to the fans.

Isn't the PC version buggy as hell until you mod it? Wonder when they'll get around to bringing PS1 digital games to PS4.

I just saw the conference where they announced this. They thought it was a good idea to announce this at a conference instead of a simple press release, lol.

The worst part is when the dude says "Im pleased to announce the PC VERSION of FF7 exclusivelly to PS4!!!!" you can hear a massive cheer of the crowd.

WHAT
THE
FUCK

The cheering crowd must be hired by Sony. Actual viewers were all dumbfounded and were like "should I clap or not?" based on the gifs.

I'm disappointed it wasn't more than it is, but really? They are bringing the game to the system, and that is much better than nothing at all, which is what we had before the announcement. Apology? That's just fucking stupid.

I hope this is a lesson for everybody, learn to have realistic expectations and you'll never be disappointed, I knew it was a port because it'll be impossible to remake a game like FFVII without making some serious comprises.
